Reviews for Squidbait Returns

Owlbait 2005.05.19 - 02:14PM 8: The First Annual Hogwarts Quidditch Clinic Signed
I've finally gotten around to starting in on this story. What a wonderfully nasty Snape. I love how he's really doing all those things on purpose, just because!

Author's Response: Thank you, Owlbait! I hope you enjoy.

Yay! A happy, unsentimental, fun ending. All the makings of a story that I approve of. I am sad to see the end of this story, but, then again, you took your characters on a journey, and they ended up nicely in the end. I aways forget to mention this, but I'll mention it now anyway, I love the name "ABFAB" ;-D I don't really know how to say something - anything - interesting, profound, amusing, or all of the things above. I've loved meeting Athene, and I sincerely hope that, whenever the whim strikes you again, you will continue writing! This has been, to the end, a groovy and defiantly original piece. Grainne, (Rosie's forgiven you, and...) I salute you! Congratulations, daaaarling! *hugs*

Author's Response: Thank you sweetie...*Grainne says in her best Jennifer Saunders voice and pops open the champagne* I am glad someone picked up on "ABFAB"...not an important point at all, but one of the many silly little homages to my favourite Britcoms that I slipped in here and there, mainly to amuse myself and my beta. Thank you so much for your kind words...and take it away, Rosie! By the way, I think "defiantly original" is the neatest thing that anyone has called this story...so cheers!

Obadiah Slope 2005.05.19 - 11:44AM 32: Enslaving the Body, Violating the Mind Signed
Hello, again! Dear me, I am so behind on anything vaguely related to fanfiction at the moment, but I decided to take the opportunity to look onto the dear internet and *not* revise for my exams. Actually, to tell the truth...I've just finished one exam, and decided to treat myself to more Athene and Snape adventures! Severus loves Athene! He finally admitted it! And I can tell you, Rosie is not pleased at all with this revelation. You wait until the next chatper of MEM...the sparks will fly! ;-D Among my favourite lines was: "Oh, if you insist. I use Sir Sped's Stink-No-More Powder to keep my feet smelling fresh. I often daydream when Flitwick is talking to me. I have perverse nighttime dreams involving you and food. I shall probably grow quite fat in my old age, and I once hexed..." And I infinitely enjoyed: "Athene nearly choked on a pea." God knows why, it must be my silly sense of humour, to which this story always, always appeals. Too often things are drearily serious in life, I'm forever indebted to you and your menagerie of characters for keeping me entertained. I'm sad that I've only got one more chapter to read... :-( I love this story too much!!

Author's Response: I am so pleased I could entertain, Obadiah, and I hope your exams have gone well. Not to worry, Severus will be all Rosie's soon enough...

Awww, I've really enjoyed reading this story. You've done an excellent job and I can't wait to read your next story :D

Author's Response: Thank you so much for letting me know! I am very glad you enjoyed.

I admit, I've put off reading this because it's over. I don't want it to end. I think the portrait as a wedding present is a wonderful idea! God knows they spent enough time in front of it. I'm going to miss Athene. Thank you so much for sharing this! Now, what are you going to write next?
~Lisa

Author's Response: Thank you so much, LariLee! (And Apollo is ever so grateful, as you are the one who first put the idea of getting him a filly in my head). After working on a piece for the SFF, I am taking a break to read!

First, I must say I thought "Ahh! It says 'Completed'--what will I do without it?" But I loved it. Poor Apollo, bless his horsey soul, thought he was dead, glad he's doing something more fun! I love the constituency at the Professors' Table, quite interesting, fodder for another story, one might ask, if one were bold. The Niffler-nose stud incident has me chucking--that is hilarious. The reunion sex was just right, canon, one might say. It never is very good, is it? That's for later. I love it that you leave it a bit open-ended as to whether they will marry, though I thought it clever that their union was viewed as "productive" by Severus! Bless you for writing this!

Author's Response: And bless you for reading. That is the best thing to hear--that, in the end, you as a reader are satisfied (with the story, that is!) I did kill off Apollo in an earlier draft, but my beta kindly pointed out that I was slipping in my recovery from Catholicism (by feeling it necessary to offset any bits of happiness by slaying a character or two) and that the poor beast deserved some sunshine and horsey lurve. Thank you for all of your lovely comments, redvelvetcanopy!

Apothecaria 2005.05.18 - 07:26PM 33: The Return of Squidbait Signed
Great poem, especially rhyming "past her," and "master." A fitting introduction to your final chapter of this, one of the most original SS/OFC stories I've seen. Athene is independent but a little insecure, smart but not a genius, and powerful but not omnipotent (the most boring characters in fiction are omnipotent--they can do everything, so where's the drama?). You coloured her realistically, and fleshed out Severus a bit beyond canon without making him nice or otherwise too OOC. His last line, where he concedes that he's glad to see her while chastising her for being late, is perfect. Cheers,

Author's Response: Well, cheers yourself, Apothecaria! I am glad you liked the silly disclaimer-verse. Poetry is not my forte, but it is infectious (and as JKR indulges in it, I felt sanctioned). In many ways I feel this story is very un-original, but I will stand by my details, and I am glad that you have enjoyed it. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful insights and helping to make this a better story.

I just spent the last three days worth of free time reading straight through your story. Loved it! I’m always a little bit leery of OFC, but I thought Athene was a good match for Severus. I liked her fierce temper and well rounded personality. The other little touches in the story were good too, like the flying horse and magical snake staff. As an Ashwinder fan, I also liked the nod to HG/SS at the Yule dance. It was a delightful story; thank you for sharing.

Author's Response: Thank you, winna. I understand the value of an hour (or a day), and it means a great deal to know that you do not think your time ill-spent. I've written a little and read a lot of HG/SS myself, so I had to include that bit. Cheers!

The End. I will miss Athene! I've enjoyed the journey. I feel as if I've been a part of a 'Bridle Burning' now, you're cutting us loose! There's only one thing to say: Neigh! (I whinnied my absolute approval!)

Author's Response: And that is the best thing an author can hear... Thank you so much, SeaIsleWitch!

Grainne, there were some gems in the chapter. 'Disillusion me' -- ILSHIWTK (I Laughed So Hard I Woke the Kids). He finally manage those words she had longed to hear, but which she already knew. He HAD showed her, after all. I found myself laughing, but it's a little bittersweet...only one more chapter! :(

Author's Response: That is a fabulous acronym! My apologies to your offspring, but I'm pleased that you enjoyed.
