Reviews for Squidbait Returns

Vocalion 2005.03.17 - 08:10PM 27: An Eyeful of Justice Signed
"Gah...Lily!" I had to start off with that! Poor Snape. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who is wondering/hoping if this story will ever end. When it does end, I am hoping you will contribute more to this archive and concentrate on original works, as well. There were so many very funny lines in this chapter, so just because I don't mention them, please know I was laughing and appreciating them. All right, here's one of many great passages: "If she let him "slay her dragon" for her, she was done for; she might as well don one of those twee pink pointy hats with the fabric hanging off the top (like she'd seen in the Muggle fairytale books) and resign herself to a life of obsequious fawning and fainting dead away. Snape was a cunning bastard, and if she was going to survive loving him, she couldn't become too dependent on him." And -- "Did I really slouch about like that? Pathetic." A most excellent chapter, Grainne.

Author's Response: Thank you, Vocalion. I've said it before, and will say it again, it is people like you who make SH such a nice place to be. I think I count myself in the "wondering/hoping" category, but you know that I have a backup plan if I am stuck for an ending ;) That Giant Squid better be hungry... All the best to you!

Author's Response: Oh, good Lord! For a minute there I thought someone had switched my water pitcher for a jug of Everclear! I admit, ever since I heard about your new toy, I wondered how it dealt with things like sneezes, snorts, laughter, and other non-verbal bodily emissions. Now I know, and I love it. THANK YOU, LariLee!

Another hilarious chapter. You've got a head for Slytherin scheming. And I agree with you about Snape and Lupin. There's canon support for Snape's progression to a more emotionally-evolved state, if you compare the man snarling, "Revenge is very sweet" at Sirius Black in PoA to the tightly-controlled spy who out-smarts Dolores Umbridge towards the end of OoP. And considering how unaffected Remus seemed by Severus' insults in PoA, it makes sense that he would find Severus droll. So your take doesn't seem OOC, really.

Author's Response: Cheers, Apothecaria! Glad Lupin's cameo did not seem too unlikely. You do such beautiful, succint textual analysis of canon...I should hire you to write my disclaimers!

Loved all the cultural tidbits in this one. Though if "Squidbait" is becoming a term of endearment, then is "Snivellus" too??

Author's Response: Thanks! All I'm going to say is, there is always a double standard where Snape is concerned.

Captain Beefheart! Hurah! I like your take on Snape and Lupin, actually... I personally think that Snape's tantrum at the end of PoA was brilliant; you can't imagine how disappointed I was when it was cut from the film :-( He's so pathetically childish when he wants to be! Groovy chapter, and as ever I am impatiently waiting for more! Have a great weekend, Grainne!

Author's Response: I am so happy someone else knows of Captain Beefheart! I agree--they have left some of the best Snape scenes out of the films...we are left to do dramatic readings on our own, I suppose. Thanks for these reviews, Obadiah, and I hope you get a chance to relax this weekend. Snape will be over to rub your feet (as long as you bring him some more Rosie ASAP!)

Hello! Ah, another one of those rare times when I can actually relax! For Goodness sake, why doesn't my life just calm down a little bit?! Oh, for relaxation... However, this is all besides the point... A rather more tender chapter, and I'm glad that we finally got to see some more of Athene's past and previous explorations. She's a pretty complex individual - such a match for Severus! However did you find her? Great writing, and I'm off to read the next chappie!

Author's Response: She accosted me at the bus stop one day, yelling, "Oy! I hear you're trying to write a Snape/OFC fic...I want in!" No, in actuality she was part careful construct (of qualities that I thought she'd need to attract/be atracted to/put up with Snape), part blatant rip-off of the classical concept of the goddess Athena, and part attempt to avoid certain gender stereotypes (i.e. that women are always more mature, patient, nurturing, tender, family-oriented, bent on reforming their wayward men, etc.). I then mooched her details from friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and perfect strangers. The penchant for wearing brown is my one blatant self-insertion (I wanted to kill the notion--once and for all--that black and brown do not go together!), but I imagine there are other, more subtle, ones that I don't even realize.

Athene smiled. Obviously the girl was in shock. Poor girl! "But then again, I was quite the awkward moo." LOL! If only the girl knew how entertaining it could be to be in trouble with Professor Snape. IF she knew she would probably faint - look how she reacted to the "friendship" fact lol! He tempered his growing irritation by noting that his hands presently rested at the exact spot where Athene's naked bottom had been only the night before, whilst he had...ahem. LOL!!! Lupin strode toward Martin, who shrank back once more. He took a loud, long sniff at the boy and then, with a snarl, stomped off down the corridor. *stading ovation* Now he was plotting solely for his own benefit. Oh yeah and he likesssss! "I have used that one before." LOL! Of course! Its funny to see how Athene and Snape handle the situation...A Slytherin and a Ravenclaw indeed! And well I didnt need you to try and explain why Lupin did it - I found it quite natural...(speaking of Remus J. Lupin: Happy birthday, Lupin!)

Author's Response: It is Lupin's birthday? Oh, how lovely! Well...Happy Birthday Lupin! I got you a cameo. No, not the jewelry kind, but a walk-on part in a scene with your very favorite Slytherin! Thanks, Sniv!

Two chapters in two days! A double treat. "Sometimes a woman has to hex a man to let him know she's there." I love that line. The first laugh of my morning, which, by the way, is far brighter than yesterday's ;) "Finally, although I have no means of enforcing it, I would ask that you find someone here at Hogwarts that you think you have judged prematurely--a fellow student that is awkward perhaps, or not well-liked, and make a kind gesture. Fair enough?" -- Well put, Athene! Compliments to your creator for supplying you with such wisdom. Another great chapter, Grainne!

Author's Response: Started out as one verrrry long chapter, so I split it, but this one did get through queue much quicker than I expected. Thank you, Vocalion! I don't think I've stopped laughing since last night ;)

What can I say? It is a wonderful chapter and I adore Slytherin!Snape and you have him down perfect! I honestly think he enjoys the maneuvering and manipulating, especially to protect Athene. Wonderful chapter! And I fully agree, that Lupin and Snape could one day be friends. I do love sneaky!Severus!
~Lisa

Author's Response: Thanks for your support! Snape is so much fun to write this way, isn't he? He is the ultimate "right bastard" ;)

Another excellent chapter, Grainne! I think Athene is very good for him and I hope he returns the favor. :-) You have so many good lines, but I love the Legilimency exchange and, as always, I love your author's notes!
~Lisa

Author's Response: Thank you, LariLee! I know you have a busy writing & reading schedule, and I am honored you take the time to read & leave me feedback.
