Reviews for Squidbait Returns

Vocalion 2005.03.22 - 03:55AM 28: The Snape-Evercantes Accord Signed
"Oh, that's right Snape, she thought, run away and sulk when anyone suggests that you might be at fault." -- That's Snape all right. Athene has him pegged. I was so enchanted with the Room of Accord that I wouldn't have recognized it as a plot device if you hadn't pointed it out! Whatever the case, you freshened it up with the painting and the repartee! And, I loved the Poem of Accord, too! Your notes are always a treat, as well. Another chapter worthy of making your readers' toenails pop off!

Author's Response: Hmm...perhaps I shouldn't have given myself away like that! Your kind words about the poem are much appreciated, as I bow to your skills in that department. Thank you!

Athene, who had been stroking Fawkes, was so startled that she almost poked the phoenix in the eye. LOL! Poor Fawkes! but she sure as hell wasn't going to start waving the white flag just yet. Oh no you better not lol! I love this Athene vs. Snape! It caught Athene's eye, and she had a powerful urge to "accidentally" stomp on it. Lol evilll woman! Gotta love her! "Oh, my!" Harmonia giggled. "You are a piece of work; I'm surprised I haven't seen you in here before." LOL that woman is so funny! I really enjoyed the conversation they had about Lily etc. "First of all, saying that I love you does not guarantee that I am any good at it." *sniff* Beautiful. Wonderful update! :) And not having Snape to admit his feelings were predictable - so good work Grainne!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Sniv! The conversation about Lily was a sticky bit to write as it was the "missing puzzle piece" to the story in many ways. Glad you enjoyed it. (I made Sniv sniff!)

Great story, well written, very entertaining. Keep up the great work! I'll keep my eye out for the next chapter. I can't wait!

Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you are enjoying, and cheers for leaving me this lovely feedback!

This one actually made me blush, which I didnt think was possible at my age. (BTW, no apostrophes today; my keyboard is acting up.) Ive argued on both sides of the Snape-Loved-Lily debate; plenty of points on both sides. And more great dialogue. He should have considered that a woman who is so able to match wits with him might do something to keep the upper hand. Miles reminded me of Umbridge, with his repulsive appearance, annoying verbal tic, and psychopathic zeal for causing pain and suffering.

Author's Response: Miles is definitely cast from the same character archetype mould as Umbridge. I know it is cliche, but sometimes it is fun to write someone with absolutely no redeeming qualities. I stole the verbal tic from a local librarian I knew as a child. [She was lovely, by the way, and I feel a tad guilty about giving her tic to such a nasty man]. Thank you for the feedback...and as for the blushing, I think that is fantastic. When I first started reading fan fiction, I think I did nothing but!

"Athene was a kicker" Ha ha! I loved that line! I love the idea of describing someone as a 'kicker'; I know a couple of people who could fit into that sort of a category... Interesting chapter with a slightly vindictive Athene in it. Well, other than a spontaneously-combusting-Snape, I very much look forward to what comes next. (Also, from a previous reviews, it was fun to see where Athene materialised from! I have to say, Rosie was nowhere near that controlled a finding - oh, what a surprise. Rosie appeared after lots of thinking about Snape and suitable partners. She appeared to me after the other strange, odd woman I had concocted for him disappeared in a cloud of dreadfulness, and bounded in, name already formed, with blonde hair, that gradually turned to brown! God knows when and where she decided to say: 'Hi, Obadiah, I think I'm the one you're looking for!' [or when I said: "But my name's not Obadiah..."] but I'm grateful that she did!) That bracket was ridiculously long, and I feel ashamed for talking about my own character in a review. Anyway, my last comment shall be that I am not looking forward to the end of this story! If I find anyone wondering/hoping this fic was over, I shall persue them until I find a suitable punishment! Have a great day, Grainne!

Author's Response: I love hearing about people's "processes" with their stories and characters, so Rosie's back-backstory is more than welcome! "disappeared in a cloud of dreadfulness"--what a fantastic image. I seem to know a few real people who do that whenever they exit the room. Thank you for these comments--they've made a dreary day quite cheery. I promise that Snape will not spontaneously combust (literally, at any rate). I am going to throw on some tracksuit bottoms and start running now, as I am guilty of wondering/hoping... Cheers!

Gah I forgot to put "can't" in the sentence! *smacks herself* Blah...For now on I will leave my reviews in Danish! lol Nah just kidding! lol And about Snape petting himself - I was about to comment on that one but eh...I better not ;)

Author's Response: No worries...I caught your meaning just fine (and giggled). er...Mange tak!

Yeah well I do feel like petting Snape but I would eventually have to turn around because I help gigle a little - She always knows how to provoke Snape... Hmm a Danish word...Eh...The Danish word "storartet" means "great" in English...eh sorry Im so bad at this lol! ;)

Author's Response: Thanks, Sniv! I will try to use it in conversation with a Danish lady I know. And if you need to take a break, well...Snape will just have to pet himself ;)

vertebra Aha learned a new word today I did (Yoda I am) And she sure knows where to poke Snape...*pets him* She soon gave up. LOL You have to look closer dear! Forty-five minutes later she emerged from his bathroom, thanked him, and left. He graded essays until midnight, convinced himself that a hot water bottle was far less trouble than Athene, and spent the rest of the night thrashing about under the duvet. lol and the bottle is better - well it sure wont talk back, Snape! ;) And oh dear you have to update soon you cant leave Snape like that! ...!!! Lol! Wonderful update Grainne - as usual! :D

Author's Response: Cheers, Sniv! Here is another one for you: sphenoid. (It is, in addition to being one of my favorite words, a beautiful bone inside your head that looks like a butterfly. It makes up part of your eye sockets.) Sorry, random. Now you must teach me a new Danish word! I like the idea of you petting Snape, Ms. YodaSniv. Merlin knows he could use it right now.

Wonderful as always, even though just a tad darker towards the end. I must confess to finding it rather pathetic the way most characters, esp SS, rave over Lily--she has struck me as the ultimate Mary Sue. Back to your chapter: you have such a wonderful way with your descriptions. Best line of the chapter: "there was something so satisfying ... in the sight of a tiny bit of disorder in Snape's gloomy shrine to anal retentiveness." I'm sorry to read your note that the story is coming to an end. This is one of the few that has never had me wondering about where it was going---it is just too enjoyable being along for the ride. Although I have wondered if you ever intended to incorporate any backstory. The comment about the self-inflicted hernia operation, for example, leaves you all sorts of intriguing possibilities. It would be interesting to see what someone with your talent developed for SS's background.

Author's Response: I admit, I had a little too much fun having Athene call Lily a, "cowardly bitch!" so I understand your sentiment. We are not done with Miss Evans yet though. Thank you for these wonderful words of support and encouragement. As to the backstory (I assume you mean Snape's, as I feel I've done Athene's to death!) a lot of it is only implied or hinted at in this story. I did this on purpose, but I would not argue with you if you were to say that it was a bit of an "easy way out." I did make one up for him, so I would know who I was writing about, but opted not to tell it in any detail except where it came up in the context of the relationship. I suppose I felt shy about doing this for a canon character. I will keep your suggestions in mind for future (now that I am no longer a shy fanfic virgin). Cheers--these are really helpful comments!

I LOVED this chapter! Snape was so elegantly cocky with Fairven. Ahtene is a bit twisted herself putting in that particular memory, a land mine, actually. Snape's reasoning on why he should snoop was so in character. He gets wrapped up in his own intellect but he's out foxed himself this time. How is he going to deal with this? I can't wait to find out though I will be sorry to see this wonderful story end.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for letting me know! Glad you enjoyed.
