Reviews for Meant to be… Enemies

lunafish 2007.05.07 - 01:54PM 6: Carving a Niche Signed
An excellent story so far! I really like how Snape is such a mixture of good and...well, not exactly bad; he's walking such a tightrope, though, isn't he? The good part of him likes Lily and Sebastian, but the intelligent and even ambitious side knows that he has to sacrifice some of the things he wants / needs if he's to get along in this unfriendly world. I feel bad for him.

Author's Response: It's a tough spot for a boy of 12. Thanks for the feedback.

Oooh! I love this story! It flows easily, and it remember me of the first HP book, but with the plus of being about Severus and not of that Potter prat! ;D I must confess I also have a soft spot for Severus and Lily...ah, what a waste! James Potter and Sirius are just as horrible as I imagined them after reading OotP >:(

Author's Response: Thanks! IMO part of Snape's issues with Harry stem from them having more in common than Snape is willing to admit. Hope to keep hearing from you.

I hate bullys. I think I would be a snarky bastard too, if my nose got broken that way...those boys are meanies! Lily's falling for our future PM, isn't she?

Author's Response: I don't know if she's falling for him, they are after all only 11. I wondered if that was why his nose looked the way it did. But you're right: Bullies stink!

I love how you make them seem like real children. Severus not counting Lily as a friend or letting her stick up for him. How he went for the food before looking at the note. and even though they are pains I love how the Marauders stick together. This is such a charming story. but I think I've said that before :)

I didn't know you had written anything past the Sorting, that was where you stopped in what ou sent to me. I checked it out today and found a whole new chapter, I'm glad you continued on with it. James and Sirius are truly rotten and remus is just as bad when he turns his head away from their dirty deeds. Pettigrew is alread a disgusting person. I wonder why they all get away with what they do when Albus knows everything that happens at Hogwarts. But then Albus always shows favoritism to Gryffendors. In my opinion that makes him a piss poor head master. Nobody is held accountable, James and the rest of the Marauders should at least get suspended for their efforts and they should have been expelled after the incident that Harry saw in the Pensieve. But it seems Dumbledore is never really held accountable either, he let a werewolf endanger the student body both as a student and a teacher, as well as letting Sirius get away with attempted murder.

Author's Response: Now don't be so hard on Remus. He really can't help his "furry little problem" and in some ways he was almost as much of a victim as Severus. In spite of his Gryffindor favoritism, Dumbledore is a decent headmaster. He could have just as easily turned Snape over to the Ministry when he "converted."

Awsome hat song! I also liked the parallel with Harry's hat argument.

Author's Response: Thanks, I'm very proud of my Sorting Hat song. There will be many more similarities between Harry's and Severus's Hogwarts experiences.

"I see. You do realize, Mr. Snape, that there are ways to solve one's problems other than resorting to the use of curses?" I can just hear McGonagall say that. Leave it to James to get into enough trouble to lose points before he's even sorted. I'd say Sev's -10 isn't going to endear him to Slytherin.

Such an awkward boy, makes you feel sorry for him. I was just re-reading OOTP and this story reminded me of "Snape's Worst Memory," something Remus tells Harry after seeing it was "Severus was this odd ball kid..." So I think you're doing a good job of following that part of his character while not making him an evil child (I think he LEARNED cruelty, he wasn't made that way until he was older).

Author's Response: You're going to see a lot of things from OOTP in this fic. I have my theory about what happened to Severus and Lily, but if I tell you about it here it will ruin the surprise. Thank you for reviewing.

I'm enjoying this early tale of Severus and Lily. You are so on the money about Harry's POV not always the correct assumption of what's really going on. But, I guess that's what has spawned all these lovey little fanfics...congrats on your HM in the festival.

Author's Response: Thank you for your review. I was really please that this was so well received at the DDF. I just added another chapter for you to enjoy. Thanks again for reviewing.

I hope you do... I really enjoyed what you have so far.

Author's Response: I'm sending chapter 5 for a nip and tuck with the beta soon. Welcome aboard! Feel free to enjoy my other fics while you wait for an update.
