Reviews for Beholden To No Man

Melpomene Erato 2006.08.07 - 04:06PM 4: Chapter 4 Signed
Wow! The last bit with the rose is just like Alejandro Cassona's play! The one where the girl is about to kill herself and someone throws a bunch of roses through her window and the card says "tomorrow" on it. How romantic! I love how you're drawing this out; it really feeds my need for this type of anticipation ;-)

Author's Response: You know what, that's one of those coincidences in life. LOL I thought it would be nice to have a random romantic gesture from our awkward Potions master. LOL

When I read Severus not to Aurelia after her birthday dinner I felt my heart cringing-almost painful! It was so difficult for him to lay the situation out in the open like that. Then I had a good chuckle when Snape asked his mother to translate Aurelia’s reply back. Too cute. Questions: Why doesn’t Severus want to spend time with his rediscovered mother over the holidays? Can that flower on the door really be from Severus? The gesture seems overly romantic. Or maybe I have become the cynic?

Author's Response: "Why doesn’t Severus want to spend time with his rediscovered mother over the holidays?" You know, that's a very good question. LOL I tend to think he doesn't have much in the way of fond memories with his family and I would think that she would encourage him to spend time with a woman that is obviously important to him. I am writing at least one Eileen centric filler chapter. This may be a candidate for another....As to the flower, could be. :)...Backing up to asking his mother to translate, I really enjoy her character and she provides some light moments in just the right places.

Read this on Owlbait's recommendation, and I'm enjoying it. The twist about Pince actually being his mother in disguise is very interesting and creative. Looking forward to an update.

Author's Response: Lady Whiteheart, glad you are enjoying. Thanks to Owlbait for recommending it. I have tried to do some things out of the ordinary to keep it interesting. :) I hope you continue to enjoy.

Ah, the advice of mothers. It will be interesting to see what happens over Christmas. I loved the line with the comparison to Molly's jumpers. I don't see Snape wearing something that he didn't buy himself.

Author's Response: Thanks, Amanda. Having his mother there has been fun. It's nice to give him someone to confide in. And I definitely agree with you on the jumper. I just don't see him letting other people choose his clothes. I figured comparing it to one of Molly's would convey the correct amount of horror he must be feeling. LOL

Lovely chapter. Aurelia sure has Severus under her spell (Ha!) I thought the secret santa exchange was pretty cute and well done. Snape is most definately in character so you and Zen Lady are doing a great job. Keep up the good work! I look forward to more.

Author's Response: Thanks, greenwood. She does have him under her spell, doesn't she? LOL The secret Santa was fun, I'm glad you liked it. More is coming soon. :)

Oh, no--an evil cliffie. I am going to guess that flower is much more sinister than it appears! I really like this story--a nice slowly developing romance between two mature people, each with their own baggage.

Author's Response: Thanks, Aiden. I'm glad you are enjoying it. The emotional baggage will lead to slow development on the romance. I actually have the next couple of chapters almost done, which is a nice feeling. :-)
