Reviews for The Diary of the Half-Blood Prince, Part 1

It is fascinating to see these events through a Snape filter, rather than the infamous Harry filter. I definitely love the spin!

Author's Response: Thanks LariLee! :-)

This is very nicely done. I really love stepping into Snape's mind and you do it so well. I love how it's Snape that makes Harry say "Not Slytherin" Very cool.

Author's Response: Yes, and we all thought it was Harry exercising his own free will, LOL. Thanks for your review.

As if I would ever tell Lucius Malfoy about the Philosopher’s Stone, I thought firmly. His endless Galleons are irritating enough. He doesn’t need endless life as well. For some reason that struck me as really so very "Snape-ish" almost humorous. I love seeing the students through Snape's eyes. The possibility that he tried to keep Potter from being sorted into Slytherin was brilliant! Looking forward to the next chapter

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked that. I know it's crazy to try to tackle a project like this ---no one knows what Snape really thinks except JKR. But it's fun to offer just one interpretatiom, and also to read interpretations from other authors as well. Thanks for your review.

very good! I really liked it!

Author's Response: Thanks! Chapter 3 is now up and I hope you like that too!

Severus would really have been cheesed off when he found out about Karkaroff being Headmaster, wouldn't he? “In fact, one might say his background is very much like—” When I read this line I thought at first Lucius was referring to Voldemort, except it's obvious he means Snape with the next line I would really like to know how Voldemort managed to keep his muggle parentage secret. Every Slytherin seemed to know the whole class's family background inside the first week in PS/SS.

Author's Response: Yes, you would think that everyone would have known young Tom Riddle was the son of a Muggle father, wouldn't you? And my guess is, some of his oldest followers indeed knew. I also assume the younger ones like Lucius don't generally know, based on Bellatrix's hysteria in OoTP when Harry threw that factoid at her. This will be an interesting subject to explore in future chapters. Thanks for your review!

I love how you're doing to back story here. I think your Snape is really well written, and I thought it was nice to see somebody incorporate that little snippet about Draco offering to be friends with Harry into the story.

Author's Response: Thanks! Chapter three is now posted and I hope you like that also!

A very interesting perspective -- canon Snape to the hilt, post-HBP and everything. The ambiguity is excellent; I'm looking forward to updates.

Author's Response: Thanks, Deeble---I'm working on Chapter 3 right now.

Excellent job of weaving cannon into the back story. Governess, indeed. :-) Snape seems very much on the fence with both sides.
~Lisa

Author's Response: Thank you for saying that. For yes, right now I picture Snape as being right on the fence and not at all interested in throwing his life away for either side, especially since Voldie seems long gone...

If the enemy solves the puzzle incorrectly— and they will— chances are excellent that they will drink the poison and immediately die an excruciating death.

I tell you, it is times like these that I almost
like this job.

That has to be one of the most Snapish comments I've ever read. This is exciting for me to see the events of book one from the Snape perspective. Extremely well done!

~Lisa

Author's Response: Thanks, Lisa. I got the idea to do this months and months ago, but was waiting to see what played out in HBP before getting the nerve to tackle it.
