Reviews for The Return of the Prodigal Son

Wow, that was really good! I especially like the different take you had on Sevvie's parents. Most fics make his mother out to be this wonderful, loving, battered woman, and his father an abusive, good-for-nothing bad guy jerk. The fact that you put Snape Sr. in Gryffindor house was a pleasantly surprising twist, yet you managed to keep it somehow both believable and in keeping with his abusive history - not an easy task. Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, OhGoddess! Glad you liked it. (If you are interested in Severus' parents' stories, you might like to try my two earlier fics, also on Occlumency.) - S.

This was so good that I don't really know where to start. The paragraph in which you described Snape's frustration with the magical subjects taught at Hogwarts was so enlightening. So, when one practices Occlumency it causes severe migraines, hence the irritability? I can buy that. You even worked in humor with the former Potions master reversing his elbows. Even Snape's less-than-noble reasons for wanting to turn spy were spot on. Not so much to serve a noble cause, but to seek revenge. I also liked that you portrayed Snape as having sympathy for Muggles. Oh, and this: “If I do not want you as Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Severus, it is because I fear that you may have trouble distinguishing the Defence from the Dark Arts.” You really thought this piece through and it shows. Excellent, excellent work.

Author's Response: Dear dear, you do not stint your praise... *grins broadly* Thanks so much! Yes - the migraines... I thought having to keep such a tight rein on your mind as Occlumency seems to require would cause some kind of strain, so here is my suggestion. I do hope I didn't make it seem the only reason for Snape's rotten temper, though - he is mean and nasty without those headaches, too :-)... -S.

One of the better explorations of how and why Snape changed sides and why Dumbledore trusts him. I also like your explanation for his terrible moods. I'll be looking for more from you.

Author's Response: Thanks, HumanTales! There's more coming... -S.

You sure you didn't invent Snape and Dumbledore because you write them so well! The confession was marvelously tense and the end was nearly as cathargic and draining for me as it was Severus. Wonderful use of language.

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, Lisa! Snape (naturally) and Dumbledore are easily my favourite characters in the HP series - I'm glad it shows. -S.
