Reviews for The Substitute

NJ Dryad 2013.05.08 - 07:08PM 2: Part Two of Two Signed
This is another outstanding installment. No one can call this Dora klutzy, not when she dances so gracefully on the knife-edge of impersonating someone else while holding onto herself and keeping her real love, Severus, at least cooperative, if not happy. Her parents are jerks, though. Few families are more toxic than mine, so I know what I'm talking about when I say they need to realize this is war, and people often have to do disgusting, shameful things to win. I doubt if they would have preferred she remain "pure" (an intentionally ironic choice of adjectives on my part) and end up with her and Ted dead. I forgot to tell you I loved Dora's dismissal of Wimpy Wemus in the previous chapter. That's just how I feel about that loser.

Author's Response: Thank you, I'm glad the rest of the story worked for you! I sort of imagine Andromeda as a very black-and-white person - after rejecting her parents' worldview she flung herself into the "other" world at full speed and never looked back. (And of course she was raised in a very black and white world). I think she would find it impossible to deal with a Tonks who straddled both worlds.

My goodness, I loved your story. It was fabulous. You made the four of them so real, so understandable. I loved your Snape and Dora. This is one of the finest Snape and Dora fanfictions I've ever read.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words. *feels a warm fangirl glow* I have such a soft spot for Snape and Dora - I've always thought that there's a link between her ability to change and her ability to perceive, and somehow I just never thought she would see him through the same surface-level lens as everyone else. (Much the same thing as what I like about some of the better-crafted SSHGs, although for Hermione it's more intellectual, I guess). Anyway, thank you for reading, and for taking the time to comment!

Wow. So many twists and complications. Did not like the character death, but hey - it is your world. Wonderfully written. Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked it. I was (and am) a bit conflicted about that part myself...I think because *this* Lucius was really completely unredeemed - he's an unmitigated bad guy who just happens to love his wife and son, but there's nothing else good about him (whereas I normally write him as a bit more of a mix of good and bad), I sort of felt there needed to be some sort of natural justice. And it was also a catalyst for Tonks bringing her two halves together again, I suppose. But even now there's a little part of me that protests when I re-read it. Anyway, thank you for reading, and for taking the time to write!
