Reviews for Sons of July

What a marvellous story. You do good things with the Dora, Severus, Narcissa and Lucius mix.

Author's Response: Thank you - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! This one was a complete accident. I was reading an extremely old fic I wrote in X Files fandom about Krycek and Marita, and one of the lines was "If I can't kill you, then I guess I'm with you." It inspired a Lucius/Tonks alternate battle scene, Kill To Be Kind, which referenced the Snape/Narcissa backstory.and used the same line. And I kind of got interested in this idea of Lucius and Narcissa in a platonic marriage - I sort of imagined her as his beard and vice versa, which is where that campy, sassy edge in their friendship in this story came from. The Lucius/Tonks side was quite different in Kill To Be Kind, though - they were a lot more ruthless with each other.

This was just incredible! An emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. I think you created a very plausible AU and you have written the characters as I always envisioned them to be, outside of the canon. I sincerely hope you will find more within the world of HP to inspire you and continue writing. You have a talent and I am glad I was given the chance to appreciate it here.

Author's Response: Thank you again. I really appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to write. Feedback makes fangirls glow, and all that! ;)

I just love this story! This is so intelligently written, with excellent dialogue. I just love the way that Lucius is taken off guard, quite literally swept off his feet by love. It's interesting to see characters normally so guarded and composed, exposed and vulnerable. I am just in love with all your stories! You are very talented!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying them. I first wrote Lucius/Tonks last year in a story themed on grief (it was an AU where Remus and Narcissa died at the Battle of Hogwart's) and it started out as mostly a situational thing - Tonks had white hair in the battle after Remus was killed, Lucius thought she was Narcissa, and their paths collided (literally) as a result. But it just sort of worked and I've been working them ever since, and that necessarily requires them being swept off their feet (because Lucius would only fall for a halfblood if circumstances forced them together IMO). And for this one, it was an interesting counterpoint to Snape, who in this universe is a reasonably mature adult who has to take on an immature and petty role. He's probably the most emotionally mature one here - which I think gels with canon, where he was kind of born an old soul in many ways - and Narcissa and, indirectly, Lucius, learn openness from him.
