Reviews for Don't Look Back

We've studied Orpheus and Eurydice back in high school so the story's pattern quickly captured my interest, with the unfortunate bonus of my knowing the ending already. Even so, a part of me secretly hoped that you'd veer away from the same tragic end (since it's Severus, and my god, we know he doesn't deserve one!). But apparently...oh well, it has been a nice read regardless. Cheers!

Author's Response: This was a response to a challenge on The Petulant Poetess. I would not have been permitted to change the ending because readers wouldn't like it!!! The ending to the myth is exactly why it fits Severus and Lily so well.

I was afraid he would accidentally save Bellatrix Lestrange, Alecto Carrow, or Narcissa Malfoy by having them take Lily's place behind him. Very sad, and I can see how he would live his entire life feeling guilty that he'd failed to bring Lily through the Veil. Thanks for writing this!

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing it! Poor Severus, it's almost worse the betraying her to Voldemort!

Lovely job, so haunting and so accurate. I don't think Snape is alone in being so tied to what he wants to save that he can't avoid looking.

Author's Response: I agree. What an awful condition to place on him! Thanks for a lovely review.

I loved the touch of having Dumbledore allude to the reason for his interest in the veil. And I'm a sucker for myths of any sort. Great job of creating the aftermath of the death too. Loved the image of him crawling across the floor, as the emotion of finding her overwhelms him.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. Credit for the Albus/Ariana detail has to go to bleddyn, though. I think he probably crawled across Harry's room to get to Lily in the film, although we didn't get to see that bit. He certainly looked like he was about to fall. (Alan Rickman is so great!) I just had to reuse that bit. It was great fun getting as much of the myth and the opera in as possible. Glad you liked it :)
