Reviews for Bibliomancer

Wow, I hate to be like everybody else left the same kind of review but that was nothing like Dumbledore at all. Even if there is a point to having him behave that way it definitely does not true to character. It would be like making Harry Potter evil. I mean, maybe in some stories people have done that, artistic license and all, but it's just… Hard to swallow.

Author's Response: I'm noticing a trend ... =P My previous statement stands but I might consider toning him down somewhat if there is a general consensus that this chapter spoils an otherwise enjoyable read.

I think that this version of Dumbledore was very out of character and it's impacted my perception of the story. He is most certainly a very manipulative and meddling old man, but the strength of his manipulation is that he is able to do it in the guise of the 'greater good.' You've really wandered from that to a point that makes is seem as if you just hate the character and wanted a place to vent. I think things were good up until here but now it just seems a bit too out of character for me.

Author's Response: I'm sorry to hear that this chapter has spoiled your enjoyment of the story. The way I see it, there are many examples of thinly-veiled disgust and dislike in canon interactions between Dumbledore and Snape. I also think that a broken, depressed Snape is much easier to manipulate and more useful to Dumbledore than a happy, confident one. Just think what might happen if Snape decided that he no longer wanted to be a spy, that he would rather live in peace with a woman who actually cared about him? It wouldn't bode well for Dumbledore, the Order or the 'greater good'. As to my personal dislike for the character, it's true--I don't like Dumbledore. But then again, we all project things into our interpretation of these characters. For example, consider Snape the Sex God or AristoSnape, both of whom are far removed from canon but we embrace them nonetheless so that we can write what we want to feel. Since this is a tale "from the darker side," I think that I am well within my rights to include explicit interactions in which the "good guys" express their dislike of Snape, revealing some negativity and bias behind their shiny exteriors.

What is Dumbledore's nasty attitude all about? Most out of character. Is it to annoy Severus so much that he will have no problem dispatching him?

Author's Response: I'm not a huge fan of the Headmaster personally and chose to paint him in a less than flattering light. Also, my take on the Dark Lord was more positive and chummy than what one normally sees. By my count, Snape whips out his wand more times in this story than in the entire HP series. So I guess I took some artistic liberties but I hope it was within reasonable limits. =P
