That first meeting gave me chills. Poor Severus.

Author's Response: I wanted to give that reaction--the horror of what Severus is getting himself into. We as the audience know what is to come, and we cringe for him. Soon he will find out....

I'm with Lucius, I'd find it hard to contain my sorrow too. I've never understood the appeal of Hitler or Lenin, their motives should have been clear to all their followers from the beginning and they shouldn't have allowed them to rise to power. Now we know how and why Lucius became a death Eater, it wasn't because he believed in the TO but because it was the only way he could get Narcissa. I understand his desire, but I don't like how the TO accomplished eliminating the obstacle for him. Did that bother Lucius? At least Severus and his father made a real connection and now Tobias understands what his family's could mean for him. Trixie was peculiar even then and she probably would have gone insane even if she hadn't gone to Azkaban. I bet Lucius didn't have to do anything to recruit her, he was only needed to act as an escort the when she first met the TO because she had already indoctrinated herself.

Author's Response: I don't see the appeal of madmen, either. In "The Beginnings of a Death Eater", the whole situation of how and why Lucius became a DE is explained. It did bother Lucius to know a man had to die for him to be happy, and he felt very guilty and sick over it. (even though Narcissa hadn't wanted that man, who was a womanizer, etc.) When he's not drinking, Tobias can be a decent guy. I don't think Eileen would have loved him otherwise. If only Severus hadn't been picked on at school, he'd not have been so resentful and desirous of vengeance...hence, the Dark Lord. Yeah, Trixie was already a convert, she just needed someone to take her to the TO. Poor pureblood nutcase...

I like the way you described Severus's meeting with Voldemort. I would expect there to be a series of meetings before people actually become Death Eaters, but maybe this is more accurate.

Author's Response: I tend to think Voldemort wouldn't want a lot of ppl to know where he is, so a series of meetings could be dangerous. One meeting--if they don't measure up, kill them, lol.
