Reviews for Avada Kedavra

I loved Snape’s POV so much. “Severus Snape has a girlfriend.” *melts* “She slept with me.” *grin* ^^ Sometimes I think people assume that an IC Snape means one that is always sneering and dismissive of everyone around him, and especially anyone who would dare to look at him with romantic inclinations. But given his past, it seems exactly right that he’d be flattered, and proud, and excited, and yes, scared. I like that his feelings for Lily are still present and not taken for granted, but he’s still allowed to enjoy what is freely offered, what he has never had a chance to experience before. So perfect. I’ve always felt sorry for Snape in canon being eternally stuck in “high school.” His experience at Hogwarts was largely spent being bullied by the popular jock and then watching said jock steal away his dream girl, and then as an adult to be perpetually tormented by the same familiar jibes at his appearance and students snogging in the corridors or rosebushes as reminders of what he never had…how nice then that with Charity it’s also like a return to adolescence, but in a good way. This time it is HIM snogging in a side alley, sharing a drink with his girlfriend at the local pub, and getting lucky after the Yule ball. A “balm for his soul” indeed. But then of course Snape’s not one to lower his mental barriers easily; how like him to be suspicious of happiness still and try to relegate his burgeoning relationship to the place of an evening drink. This is such a good story, Herbologist; I’m so glad I gave it a chance. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for all your wonderful reviews. They really made my day. You should see the huge snile on my face :-D I'm in the process of writing the next chapter of AK (since Beyond Captivation is finally complete), and I feel so inspired now. Whereas last night I was plagued by writer's block, after reading your great feedback my head is now swimming with ideas and pieces of dialogue that just need to be put into words. Thank you so much, I wish there were more readers like you!

4am? *wince* Well, no one can doubt Charity’s determination. “Are you really that desperate for a fuck? … Or does it arouse you to spread your legs for a Death Eater? In that case I could introduce you to some of my former associates. Perhaps you’d stop accosting me then.” Ooo, painfully well aimed. I can’t think of any other character in the series who can wield more power with the spoken word than Snape. He doesn’t need a wand to cut. But luckily for him Charity can see his words for what they really are. Thank you for having Charity trust Snape for reasons other than because Dumbledore does. It seemed that in canon few (if any) others had any faith in Snape based on his own merits rather than the Headmaster’s. “’What if he orders me to kill you, just for the sake of testing my loyalty?’ ‘You wouldn’t…’ she replied meekly. ‘I would have to.’” Love the unflinching honestly. That’s quite the risk – are you sure Charity’s not a Gryffindor after all? :) I forgot to mention it earlier, but I really enjoy how the story’s set in GoF. I love SS/HG, but there are very few stories exploring the dynamics during the (IMO) rich time periods of GoF and OotP since Hermione hasn’t yet reached the magical age of consent. But I like that we get to explore this time when Severus is looking with dread toward the inevitable return of the Dark Lord. One can only imagine the roiling mix of fear (It’s been years – will his Occlumency shields hold?), self-loathing (time to pay the price), and doom (beginning of the end) that he must be feeling. And now there’s Charity, both a blessing (how cathartic it must have been to finally have a shoulder to cry on) and curse (one more thing to hide when his task must already feel impossible).

Author's Response: Yes, there are some very interesting times to write about along the way of this story. The next chapter will feature the rebirth of the Dark Lord and Snape's delayed return to his side. I have been wanting to write about that for ages, and hope I'll make a good job of it.

I have to say, sometimes attempts at writing a happier ending result in a lesser story, but that’s definitely not the case here! I love that Snape is obviously prepared to snap at her if she came to say that last night was a mistake, yet hoped for a repeat performance. :) I grinned at the fact that he skipped his meals in order to do some “homework,” and can only hope that he was spared the embarrassment of checking out the book from Madame Pince. I like that you have him joke with Charity, as Snape does have a sense of humor, if often biting. And you’ve sold me on this Slytherin/Hufflepuff pairing. I think in some ways Severus needs a Hufflepuff, someone easy-going, someone who’s well in tuned with emotions and can see past his prickly outer shell. Her reaction to the Dark Mark was a definite set back in the relationship – Severus’ trust in anyone will always be fragile, so it was no surprise so see him reverting back to his “evil Potion’s Master” persona – but I’m glad that the issue is being addressed now rather than being a source of later drama. (Not that there was much choice – that shirt had to come off sometime!)

Author's Response: You just gave me a very tempting idea for a comical little drabble involving Severus, Madam Pince, and a certain book from the Restricted Section... Gee, he would have to obliviate her, LOL! If I ever manage to write it, it'll be dedicated to you. Thanks for your wonderful review!

I was going through Beyond Captivation withdraw, so I decided to pop on over to Occlumency and try out one of your other stories, and I’m so glad I did! I love your take on Charity, especially how young she seems. Not in an immature way, but in her admiring thoughts toward the Durmstrang boys, the fact that she enjoys fashion, dancing, and flirting, and in her amusing appraisal of the male staff members. I’ve read a couple Snape/Charity one-shots before, but they never did much for me because the way Charity was written made her seem to be closer to 60 years of age than 30. (And as I’ve always considered Snape to be a tad emotionally stunted, never having experienced much true affection in his life, I have a difficult time seeing him with an older woman.) But you’ve sold me here. Charity was perfect, compassionate without being sue-ish. And virgin!Snape! I love his sense of awe and boyish wonder, the fear of rejection and failure, the shaking hands, the smoldering heat in his eyes (no boy, despite his experience)… Mmm, so satisfying. I also love how so many aspects of Snape’s wonderfully complex character are presented in this chapter; we get the sarcasm, wonderfully biting humor (“I think you’ll find you can stop now”), surprising skills (I can definitely see Snape being able to dance, given his connections to the Malfoys), suspicion, vulnerability, fear, awe, passion, nobility, self-denial, compassion, and more. "I'm sorry, I cannot help you. You are going to die. Too much depends on me playing my part. All I can do is help ensure it won't be in vain." So sad. So good. So right that Snape is brutally honest about her fate, yet somehow still provides comfort. They were both so brave, yet so human in those last moments. “You were wrong Severus…You are a good person.” *tears* Oh, well done. And now I’ll be moving on to chapter 2 so you can make it all better! :)

Author's Response: I submitted the last chapter to 'Beyonf Captivation two days ago, so hopefulyl your withdrawl won't last much lonfer, but I'm also very glad you decidded to read this. It's my favourite project atm. Charity is turning out a very enjoyable character to write. She is mostly an OC, but so different from myself that I can write with a sort of professional detachment meaning there is no danger of turning her into a Mary Sue. Glad you liked the tragic end as well.

I love this story. Please update soon. I can't wait any longer. Thanks.

So sweet and endearing is Charity. I do hope Severus will allow her into his heart. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful story.

Author's Response: Thanks for your lovely review. She'll be way into his heart before he realises it!

That was a cute date. Interesting that he took her to a place where he was happy with Lily even though he told himself he didn't want to compare. He's more attached than he wants to believe!

Author's Response: That, and the fact that it was the only place he'd ever been to with a girl :-) Thanks for reading and reviewing!

He's going to make her fight for every speck of warmth that's between them, isn't he? It will be worth it for both of them at some point

Author's Response: Yes, he's like that. He'll find it hard to admit that he does have feelings for her.

Only yesterday I was wondering what had happened to this story. I'm glad you've updated. It's just like Severus to try to control his burgeoning feelings, but I think Charity will break down his defences in the end.

Author's Response: Glad you're still with the story, and apologies for taking so long to update. The next chapter will be much quicker I hope. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
