Reviews for In His Name

Owlbait 2011.09.15 - 09:12AM 2: Chapter Two: Blessed Angels Come Signed
I see it isn't gqoing to be easy to get Sev back. Who wnould have imagined there could be Dark antivenins? Brilliantly imaginitive!

Author's Response: *Sigh* - when has anything in the man's life ever been easy? The gods have hearts of stone when they think a lesson is yet unlearned....

The Casual Observer 2010.11.17 - 09:57PM 2: Chapter Two: Blessed Angels Come Signed
Please forgive me if I sounded demanding or pushy in my last review. I just didn't want to becomes emotionally involved (yes, that's rather melodramatic I know) in another story that will never be finished. I can completely understand how real life can be and it definitely is the priority here! Again I am thouroughly impressed! This is simply amazing! Severus is in quite the perdicament isn't he? And him being addicted to those terrible potions on top. Substance abuse is an uphill battle on it's own but when coupled with total blindness and this Abandonment it seems like that poor man doesn't have a chance. But then look at Gareth, Minerva and Hagrid. I really hope they can help him. He really needs them even if he wouldn't admit it. I feel sorry for Severus, especially when Gareth was settling him in. That's sad. I can't wait to read more...now if only my work schedul would cooperate and allow me time to do so!!

Author's Response: No worries, gentle reader !!! I'm delighted you're joining our journey. This tale promises to be an epic endeavor and there are those moments when I think "gods, what possessed me?" but then the muse beckons and will not be denied and off I plunge into the next chapter as she whispers in my ear. More of Severus' tale must be told, she reminds me, and who would dare deny either the Muse or the Potions master? Certainly not I.....

I really admire Gareth's strength and determination to help someone he doesn't even know. Severus really needs someone like him come back from this terrible curse and plus his addictions on top of that! What a horrible thing he must go through! It's sad to see that someone so talented and brilliant as Severus who has so much to offer the world treated with such cruelty, judgment and unkindness even when so young. I do hope that the healer with the help of Minerva and Hagrid can bring Severus out of this curse and heal him. I really can't blame Severus for this drug addiction...well maybe I should say I can understand WHY he would do such a thing. I love your humanistic approach to these characters we really get to see who they are and both their good and their bad attributes. I love it! Again, this is hands down the best story I have read in fan fiction. Have you ever considered ever posting it on fanfiction. net as well? It has a huge Harry Potter base and could really use a good story like this one!

Author's Response: So glad you're continuing with the story. You'll be pleased to know the tale is also posted (as you mentioned) on FFN and TPP. I know there are some readers who consider this tale much too heavy and dark and are annoyed that I'd put Severus into still more angst - but we all know there are NO neat and tidy endings in life and a man who has lived such a convuluted life is going to bring LOTS of baggage into the next phase of his life - but the point is there IS a next phase and people of TRULY good character (unlike ol' Dumbly !!) who will be there for him. By the way I was ecstatic to see you review the 2nd chapter and I do hope you'll continue to do so..... makes me smile !!!!

This chapter is very intense, and rather angsty, too, on the one side, but comforting in a strange way on the other. One gets the impression that there is no more hope for Snape, and that he is in very dire circumstances indeed. Where shall there be hope, where help come from? But then, Gareth finds a little somtething. I find it very impressing how you weave a dense tapestry or cloth of tale and meaning and celtic lore.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to re-read the revised chapters. It means so much to me !! I'm so glad you realized that even though this chapter is painful, there is hope, and that Gareth is just the right person to be at "Neirin's" side.

Again, your attention to detail is amazing. You have made the sotry so much richer with all these details. I'm glad that you have brought stuff up about Severus' past and some terrible things that may have happened to him to make him the way that he was. It's not just black and white but in varying shades of gray. It's sad to think that maltreatment can make a person so lonely and bitter...but it happens. The unloved child bit broke myheart. No one should feel unloved, especially a child. Look at what it did to him. Poor, poor Severus. He is in quite a state. First that terrible snake bite wound that sounds so painful then the dependency on the Vemon stuff...wow that's alot for one guy to try to overcome plus with thecurse on top of that. I hope the Good Healer can help him. I loved the little details of the potion bag. I don't know if it is because I am a pharmocology major or what lol. Wow what a battle these two have before them. I can not wait to read more and eagerly a wait an update!

Author's Response: As you can well imagine, these chapters take considerable time - because I tend to reserach like an idiot to make things as accurate as possible, with some poetic license of course !! And yes they do have quite the battle ahead - not going to be easy for either of them.... Again, thank you so much for being here with me !!!

I loved his one way running conversation with Severus, it let me gather a lot more information about Gareth as a person. If I remember correctly, in the original version the lullaby was from Humperdinck's 'Hansel und Gretel'. I love the song about the 14 Angels, but I think 'All Through the Night' is more appropriate for Gareth. It comes so completely from his background and it's so appropriate to the situation. The 'Virus Eternus, I wonder if he had made that before he became Dumbledore's spy, during his first years as a Death Eater and never ws able to get rid of it. Were the doses that were missing administered to 'He Who I Find Most Tedious & Tiresome' at the demand of the Tiresome One' himself? Does Gareth practice Columban Christianity? That seems to fit who and what he is. I'm wondering if the curse came through Nagini's venom or if the 'TO' put the curse on him over and above the venom.

Author's Response: Oh NOW I am happy !!! I love it when my readers start to ask questions and speculate and wonder !!! I've got you !!! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful !! Author rubs hands together in abundant glee !!!! You are correct about the lullaby - you and I discussed that once and I did decide the old Welsh was more fitting. As for the Theriac, it has more than one victim - and the curse? Ah, gentle reader, you must wait and see !!

This has the feel of a beautiful epic. I too read it when first posted and loved it at once. Remembering your initial chapters, yes I am in complete concurrence, someone must have noticed Snape's torment. Not everyone is as immature as Harry. Personally I think JKR completely lost the plot with DH. Why did it need to be written in 12 mths anyway? Surely she could have taken 3yrs to come up with something actually interesting, not the short straw we ended up with. Tolkien took a great many years to perfect LOTR, and it is still perfection. Tolkien's orc captains have more character than the majority of JKR's adult characters. Anyhow thank you for including Minerva and Hagrid. Minerva came across as somewhat incompetent and immature in canon(apparently very Griffyndor traits), you give MM back dignity and wisdom of years. Once more thanks for your great story.

Author's Response: I find Minerva fascinating, and I always had the sense that she and Severus would have gotten along rather well, allowing each other the right to be themselves. I'm feeling also that Hagrid was much more than just a great oafish lout lumbering around - otherwise ol Dumbly would not have sent him off to do some rather significant negotiating. So glad you are back with the story - thank you so much for your comments.

When I first found and read this story I thought that it was beautifully written. I mean I felt so many different emotions while I read the first four chapters. I found myself crying while reading chapter 4. After reading this new updated story all I can say is brilliant. I love this story even more. You are a truely gifted writer.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm so glad to bring the story back to life and meet my old friends on this site again.
