Reviews for In His Name

a1severuslives 2009.11.09 - 10:02PM 7: Chapter Seven: An Offering of Sand Signed
Honestly, I do not know what to say. Both your story and words leave me entirely bereft of speech! I thank you for this heart rending tale of our dearly loved Severus. Thank you for Minerva and Hagrid. ( Yes, I know you didn't create the characters, but you have given them life, something very lacking in the original). Are we to get Draco as a real person to now? If so I cannot wait!

Author's Response: I am touched to have left you speechless... thank you! I do find Draco an intriguing young man as well, again not simply the arrogant prat JK made him... so, yes I shall enjoy discovering more of his story...

Good to see the next chapter up. With regularity, there will be at least one line per chapter that impresses me so deeply as to stay with me. In this instance, the following: "On this night, coins of moonlight are strewn as payment on the pathway of a calmed sea, and the moors beyond the cliffs stand yearning for a breath of sharp salt air." Beautiful stuff. The plot is thickening. I hope you won't leave us waiting for the next chapter for too long.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I don't think any author can receive any higher accolade than to be told certain passages have become a treasure in the heart of their reader. I am honored, and indeed, am working on the next chapter even now.

Snapesbeatrice 2009.11.06 - 12:00AM 6: Chapter Six: The Vigils of Small Words Signed
Another beautifully written, magical chapter. It's just like being there. I particularly like the section in which the healer "writes" to Minerva about how he works, Snape's illness, and the owl waiting for him to reply.

Author's Response: You've no idea what a treat it is to come home (at 10:00 pm at night, no less) after an absolutely dreadful day to find not one but TWO lovely reviews. You have lifted my heavy heart and for that I thank you sincerely. Fear not, I'm about finished with Chapter 7 and hope to post in the next day or so.....

This is an amazing story in every way...you've achieved a style which is compliant with Rowling's own- which is a very important thing for a fanfiction, at least in my oppinion- and yet it's original and your only. the plot is imaginative, and a wonderful continuation of the original; the characters are perfectly in-character, the dialogues are vivid and captivating...please, more!!! :-)

Author's Response: Thank you so much !! Nice to meet you !! I'm so pleased you like the style of my writing - there are some who may find it too arcane but as I've always said, the beauty of language is fascinating to me - and these characters, especially Severus (to me at least) seem to deserve a more epic approach to their stories (at least in the adult world !!). Happy news - I'm working on Chapter 7 as we speak. You'll find I'm not an author who updates every week - I do tend to take a good deal of time between chapters as I do try to craft them rather than just spit them out - and my insanely busy life sometimes only allows me to produce a sentance or two when I sit down to write !! I do hope you'll remain a traveler on this road of discovery for the Potions master !!

I am so excited to see your recent update which means that there is more of this wonderful tale to read! I was worried that you had given up o us! You wouldn't believe how happy I am that you are continuing! Well, now on to the review! Your colorful, rich descriptions leave little to the imagination! I felt as though I was standing next to Minerva as she went through his quarters! I especially liked the part where they quarreled over their preferred teas and then Severus's xmas gift to her. I love the way you portray him. True he is angry, bitter and cold man but he isn't truly a cruel, evil person as he shows us with the gift. This chapter made me identify with Severus even more. I too have a great love for learning and especially literature. Seeing all of those books in my mind's eye and thinking that mountain of knowledge in there made me smile...and made me a little jealous! lol With each flashback of Severus as a child you can't help but feel sorry for him, pertaining to the situations he had to grow up in. It's sad that as a teacher I so often see impoverished children like this who are not interested at all in learning it makes me wonder what will become of them. I was happy to see that this is not the case with Severus though he did slip through the cracks as those who need intervention the most seem to do. When she found the battered biscuit tin I admit I got tears in my eyes (The Prince's tale always gets to me lol) It's just heartbreaking to think that someone could live as he did without love and affection and how he held on to Lily like that...so sad, especially when she chose that tosser Potter. Well anyway, This was a wonderful chapter that gave us some really good insight in to how poor Severus lived day to day. I look forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response: Ah, there you are !!!! I'm delighted too, to see that you are still reading !! Take heart, gentle reader, you have two more chapters waiting for you here and I'm working on Chapter 7 even now !!

Lopie2 2009.10.13 - 09:14PM 6: Chapter Six: The Vigils of Small Words Signed
a beautifully written chapter as always. Could Delyth be that third secret keeper? She is discribed as a strong and steady girl. Just what our dragon needs.

Author's Response: Only time, and the nature of dragons, knows the answer to that question....

Hagrid's new clothes remind me of Herne the Hunter somehow. *smiles* This is quite marvelous (as I have come to expect from you), and the idea that Minerva still stays true to the "old way" makes absolute sense, given her celtic heritage. Thank you so much for updating!

Author's Response: I find the concept fascinating that in tthis age of technology, there are still many who quietly adhere to the "old ways" and manage to live in balance between both realms. Perhaps it's part of that search for balance that is reawakenng so many to a new awareness of the Earth as the Mother. thank you so much for staying on the path with me. I'll forge ahead, and hope to be a brave and pleasant guide !!

It's great to see this story updated and I find myself enjoying it even more with a second reading. This chapter was wondeful... a lovely sense of depth to Hagrid. Well done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much !! I'm very happy you enjoyed the tale enough to want to come back to it, and read on !! So many of JK's characters felt like sketches to me rather than fully developed characters but I can't be too unhappy about that since it gives all of us in fanfiction so much material to work with !! Hope you enjoy the next chapter which has just been posted.

I concur with Rose, I had never thought about it, but Minerva and Hagrid belong to the same generation, don't they? They have experienced three wars, the one with Gellert and the two with 'He Who I Find Most Tedious & Tiresome', I imagine she was thinking of the war with Grindelwald when she hid her heart and the other was the first war war with Voldemort. This quote expresses the point with truth and much more clearly than I've ever seen it done before. "Albus had carried far more darkness than he’d ever admitted, and Severus far more light than he’d ever acknowledged." Minerva knew them both very well, in fact she now knows them better than they knew themselves. The other penetant Death Eater, was that Regulus? The lullaby, is it 'Ar Hyd Y Nos'? That one has special meaning for me.

Author's Response: Yes - two penitent Death Easters, both Slytherin. So given that, just how do we attribute the trait of true courage, eh? The lullaby is indeed 'Ar Hyd Y Nos'. You'll recall that's what Gareth first sang to him, and now continues to sing - providing an anchor of compassion. Angels keeping watch... they will of all fears disarm thee. "Albus, I am afraid." Angels are indeed needed here, all through this long and significant night.

Rose of the West 2009.10.08 - 02:21PM 6: Chapter Six: The Vigils of Small Words Signed
Quite powerful, and a nice reminder that how a thing is done can be as important as the deed itself. I don't often remember that Hagrid and Minerva are of an age with each other... and also to the one whose curse they're trying to undo. There's something appropriate about that connection.

Author's Response: I felt there should be more significance give to the experiences and abilities of certain of the older magical generation. Most of the books focused on the younger generation (of course for obvious reasons) but as Hagrid observed earlier, there are still difficult issues left undone that only those most closely involved can truly resolve since they bear much of the responsibility for the outcome. Paying the price, if you will, for their prior failures to act. This final curse cast by Tom is a painful reminder that his peers still have work to do. Otherwise, how long until another of Tom's ilk begins to rise?
