Reviews for In His Name

LChaim 2009.08.26 - 10:01PM 3: Chapter Three: Requiem of Revelation Signed
I like Severus and Minerva's friendship. While it is not warm there is a sense of acceptance. I like that. Poor Severus. He really had it rough suffering like that all alone while everyone was oblivious to his pain. What agony it must have been for the poor fellow. OMG! He was even hurting himself and taking awful potions. Anything to numb the pain, I guess. How terrible. That Abandonement it awful! How cruel to set the curse to his name, his identity! Of course people would be speaking his name for the thingshe had done and sending him deeper and deeper intothe curse! Poor Severus! He even said he was frightened...so sad. Oh! A thrid Secret Keeper...I am so curious to see who it might be! Bu he will be blind! Forever? No chance of gaining his sight back even a little bit? Wow what a horrible, cruel thingThe Dark Lord did to him. What a bastard! Overall, this chapter was wonderful! Excellent use of language and very original plot! I am looking forward to more!

Author's Response: I'm so pleased you are staying with the tale. As you move forward into the next several chapters you'll see even more of the relationship between Severus and Minerva and gain even more insight through the thoughts of Hagrid. Severus' blindness is somewhat of an allegory for the darkness he has resigned himself to for so long. This is a tale based on the mythic elements of the warrior-heros of legend who are often given what seem like insurmountable odds to overcome and quests to undertake. That is the case here. I can assure you of one thing... Severus will prevail. Minerva, Hagrid, and the 3rd Keeper, along with Gareth, will make sure of it !! I believe his first step along this journey was the simple admission of saying "I am afraid... "

Wondrous. You show Hagrid a respect he's hardly given in any tale I've read, not even by Rowling herself. The friendship between him and McGonagall is moving and delightful. And looking at Snape's devlopment through his eyes was a rare treat indeed! But do you know what I loved most? It was Hagrid's memory of that "perfect autumn day" when Snape bowed to the hippogriff with the air and posture of a prince. Alas, what he could have been, had he not been used by both sides... Wonderfully done. Bravo.

Author's Response: It's grand to know this chapter served the purposes I intended. Very much wanted to give Hagrid more depth. I thank all my faithful readers and reviewers for sticking with me - I know there's been a ton of back story and reflection in these first five chapters but I truly felt there needed to be an expansion of the perceptions that Minerva and Hagrid had about Severus particularly since each has known him from childhood, and were witness to his fall from grace, and are now going to be significant in his journey back from the Abandonment. Thank you so much for being with me !!

Wow, Hagrid's perspective! That's an interesting take and one that I was glad to have been able to read. You have Hagrid true feeling...not just some oafish simpleton like he is portrayed somany other times and even in the books. Hagrid hasgiven us somereally good insight here. Poor Severus, showing signs of being maltreated as a child. It's sad. Even by book discriptions Idon't think Severus was truly physically "ugly" true his greasy hair was not exactly appealing but as for his overlarge nose, he had the long thin face to pull it off. I think his fould disposition mad a lot to do with people thinking him unattractive. I think Hagridwasspot on about those Mauraders. I can't stand that group of bullies! It's so ironic that the person everyone branded a coward, tratior and unlovable turned out to be the hero who helped save them all. Life's funny like that, I guess. Severus has been through alot in the past year. Ithinkhe punishes himself too harshly. What would anyone else have done if they had been unfortunate enough to be in his position? With that history and what he has going on now he hasquite the battle and I hope that Garetht he healer is up for it. Severus is going to need him. Overall this is a great addition to your epic story. You take great pride in your work and it shows. I can appreicate allthe painstaking care you put into each detail. I eagerly await your next installment!

Author's Response: As you say, it's so often about perceptions and perspectives. I'm pleased you appreciated the chance to delve into Hagrid's POV. He has great wisdom and compaassion, and bravery. As another reader pointed out, he exemplifies the TRUE characteristic of a Gryffindor.

This is an absolutely beautiful, moving story. I'm so glad that you've written it. The insights of the characters, the scenes we never saw in the books but which you've created here are stunning. I hope to read a lot more from you in the future.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your kindness. I'm glad the tale is speaking to you. I envy JK her ability to create such fascinating characters, though I did feel many of them were sketches only, not true portraits. I'm simply attempting to create the more profound images, to give them even greater life. I'm working on Chapter 6 as we speak, so stick with me !!

Beautifully rendered, as always. I love the conversation by Dumbledore's grave where Hagrid is talking about the Tedious One and Snape is talking about Dumbledore and it's absolutely true both ways. I also like the way Hagrid refers to Snape's things as his Portkeys. In that last conversation with Minerva, you've shown us the truest part of Hagrid's Gryffindor heart, where his honor and sense of fair play reside. Quite lovely.

Author's Response: Thank you so much Rose. I'm glad the Tomb scene worked - I wanted that scene to convey the essence of Severus - always in the shadows, always perceived one way and being quite the other.

To quote the Ol' dragon" who would have expected you, Hagrid to be so astute?" Indeed, my HBP, Indeed. thank you for this wonderful update and l'm already looking forward towards ch.6.

Author's Response: Oh, I'm so happy to see you back reveiwing !!! I missed you, thought you'd left us !! Indeed, I truly wanted Hagrid to be given much more depth and character than canon gave him.... anyone that Dumbledore trusted with such signigicant things as transporting the baby Harry, or bringing him to Hogwarts, or negotiating with giants was certainly no clownish buffoon..... again the one-sided perceptions of so many of these characters just did not work for me.

Again, your attention to detail is amazing. You have made the sotry so much richer with all these details. I'm glad that you have brought stuff up about Severus' past and some terrible things that may have happened to him to make him the way that he was. It's not just black and white but in varying shades of gray. It's sad to think that maltreatment can make a person so lonely and bitter...but it happens. The unloved child bit broke myheart. No one should feel unloved, especially a child. Look at what it did to him. Poor, poor Severus. He is in quite a state. First that terrible snake bite wound that sounds so painful then the dependency on the Vemon stuff...wow that's alot for one guy to try to overcome plus with thecurse on top of that. I hope the Good Healer can help him. I loved the little details of the potion bag. I don't know if it is because I am a pharmocology major or what lol. Wow what a battle these two have before them. I can not wait to read more and eagerly a wait an update!

Author's Response: As you can well imagine, these chapters take considerable time - because I tend to reserach like an idiot to make things as accurate as possible, with some poetic license of course !! And yes they do have quite the battle ahead - not going to be easy for either of them.... Again, thank you so much for being here with me !!!

OMG! Another user recently read this and pointed me this way and I am so glad that she did. This is absolutely amazing writing! Already I love the healer. He is such a gentle person but has the resolve and the strength to attempt to help Severus. I really enjoyed reading about Hagrid and how he was with poor Severus. I like how you brought his experiences with magical creatures into play here. It was a nice touch. This plot that you have set out is so original and interesting! I can't wait to read more! I love it!

Author's Response: Welcome to the epic - I'm so glad you've joined the road we're on.... Gareth is a gentle soul, but has a spine of steel - as our Severus will soon learn - it's going to take that kind of toughness to pull him through. You mentioned you appreciated the touches with Hagrid - there ia a chapter in queue at the moment that is from his POV - "In the Company of Beasts and Men" - so do watch for that. Thank you so much for your review - it makes me very happy to hear my readers observations and see their input.

I was close to tears all the way through the existing chapters; such a hearbreakingly beautiful story! I really love and admire your indepth characterisations...very, very well done indeed!!! Please don't keep us waiting too long for new chapters! P.S.: I can't help but wonder if the terrible abandonment curse might prove to be a bit of blessing too? Maybe having to live on without his old name and existence will give him the chance of letting go of his troublesome past, too?

Author's Response: I am so pleased when I find those willing to stick with me are moving, along with me, into a more introspective and thoughtful place. Thank you so much !!! Never fear, the next chapter should be up very soon.

This is absolutely some of the best writing I have ever had the priviledge to read. I love the great attention to detail and the originality of your story! I am so exctied to see what will happen next and I hope for a speedy update! Until today I have stuck mainly to fanfiction.net and wasn't too happy with the quality of the stories. I am so glad I stumbled onto this website today! Again, kudos to you!

Author's Response: You can't even imagine how lovely it is to come home from a hard day of work and find such a wonderful review. Thank you so much!! You will find me elsewhere on this site with shorter pieces as well, but this is the epic that drives me. Have no fear, the next chapter is taking shape - and the muse has not, for the moment at least, deserted me !! Welcome to the journey - so happy to have you along.
