Katherine raises the valid questions which should have been in the books of course! Harry et al. would not have been capable of questioning Snape's motives and actions. Someone like Lupin or Kingsley should have. Sorry, here I go again about the lack of DH. Have you heard of the law suit against JKR concerning Willy the Wizard? It wouldn't have been much of a story if everyone had figured out Snape's motives and actions, I guess, because the Death Eaters would have figured it out, too, but it sure is frustrating for us readers! I haven't heard about any lawsuits. I don't get to the theater as often as once a year so we'll probably catch HPB when it comes out on video.
