Reviews for The Scottish Play

Trickie Woo 2009.09.22 - 07:10PM 20: Chapter Twenty Signed
I'm too tired to give you much of a review, I spent all day at Johns Hopkins accompanying my husband to all the exams and tests they required to prepare him for gall bladder surgery tomorrow morning and I'm totally exhausted. No aspersions on your story, but I even dozed off for at least half an hour in front of the computer while reading it. Anyway, I wanted to say that things are really coming together, the next chapter should bring the climax. I'm looking forward to it.

Author's Response: Oh, I do hope all goes well. Sending very bestest wishes from this side of the pond xx. Scaranda

I meant to mention this in my original review, but it totally slipped my mind after I started writing it. I don't know why I hadn't noticed it before, but Severus and Merlin have bugged Thomas's castle with their own personal video cams. That's exactly what Aricanthe and the Fey are, and while the Fey can be manipulated to do and say what Merlin/Dumbldore wants, Aricanth's function is just to spy on Thomas and let her master know what is going on when he can't be there in person. How appropriate, and how wonderful that they are using their own version of our modern technology 500 years or more before we got to use it ourselves. I like it even better than memories in a pensieve, because it plays in real time.

Author's Response: Thanks again for that, Trickie Woo. I wanted the whole story directly from Severus's perspective, without the Grim telling him this happened, and Lennox telling him that happened... perhaps more like being an audience in an actual play, if you get my drift (very much in what you describe as 'real time'). I like the parallel you've drawn between Aricanthe and the Fey, and a covert surveillance system... I suppose that's exactly what they are. For the record though, Macbeth was born over a thousand years ago, circa 1005, and he died circa 1057. Thanks again. Scar

I enjoyed the Olympian, she out witted Thomas easily, maybe she should get the crown of Scotland. I love the subtle seeds of doubt and insecurity they are planting in Thomas, especially the way Merlin used the Fey to do it. So, Snape is finally going to get laid again, I'm sure his cock thinks it's well past time for it.

Author's Response: Thanks, Trickie Woo. The Olympian was fun to write, and I wanted her offset with Flitwick to appear ridiculous... but only at a first glance. It's the little things that will grind Thomas down, and erode his confidence. As we say over here 'mony a mickle, maks a muckle'. As to Snape getting another basket of wild oats... well, it was about time... no point in having a perfectly good cock if you're only going to use it for stirring your tea, is there? Thanks again. Rose of the West 2009.09.13 - 06:43PM 19: Chapter Nineteen Signed
I have to admit that I'm greatly relieved about Ginny. Snape has more emotional connection with the cat than with any of the women he's shagged, perhaps excepting Andromeda. It would be a shame for him to get Ginny just because she was there. I love the way the Olympian is taking over so much of the preparations for the upcoming battle.

Author's Response: Thanks, Rose. I know you were looking out for Ginerva. As to Aricanthe, you're right. Severus really has to fight for her brand of affection; it's a cat thing...they're not easily impressed. Thanks so much for your review, and for reading along. Scaranda

Well-played with the turnip on All Hallows. Absolutely delightful. And poor Banquo/Draco suffering from the twins' sense of humor.

Author's Response: I wasn't sure if anyone would notice the turnip bit actually, thanks for that! Glad you're back and catching up! Scar

Oh my -- I fear for both Banquo and the fine Lady Macbeth. The Cursebreaker's work is impressive, as is the author's. :D

Author's Response: Thanks for that, Pitt, (of course, you would say that about the dastardly Bill, wouldn't you?) Fear not for the de Mal Fois, after all, Snape can't make much more of a mess of things than he's already made, can he? Scar

Stella Stargazer 2009.09.10 - 11:36AM 18: Chapter Eighteen Signed
Nice chapter. I like the way you dealt with the banquet scene - it made perfect sense, and, in performance at least, it is really hellishly difficult to get exactly right (lots of subtle nuances which you have found and used here). I agree with Trickie Woo - we need lots of humiliation for the pseudo-MacBeth. Perhaps the best punishment for him to to reinforce that he is of no consequence once de-fanged (forgive the bad pun).

Author's Response: Trust me, Stella, I have something special in mind for the erstwhile Riddler! Thanks so much for your review; glad you're still reading along. Scaranda

First of all, I loved this bit of ironical reference, “Saw you the weird sisters?” I could follow this chapter easily until the Fey appeared in the Riddler's/Macbeth's chambers, now I have no idea of what's going to happen, except that the Riddler/MacBeth will die since you are following the play. I'm not a fan of violence, but make his death bloody, and nasty, and gory to make up for the collateral damage Rowling failed to inflict on the TO and the Death Eaters. I never understood how she could let Severus bleed to death, let all those casualties and deaths happen to the students, the order and assorted Muggles, yet not show any Death eater casualties or blood. The TO, Trixie, and Rattail had painless and unsatisfying deaths. Snape's snakeskin boots in Rose's 'Both Sides' were my idea. I had issued a Death Eaters in Pain challenge in my LJ and a surviving Snape wearing snakeskin boots as well as a female OC who could be a real match for Severus and lots collateral damage and blood loss being suffered by the Death Eaters were requirements in the challenge, so give him lots of pain and blood loss before he dies.

Author's Response: I promise on my honour to do my best to make up for what was missed. I'm a humiliation girl myself, and I think little would be more painful to Thomas than to be totally humbled (not a spoiler) with lots of pain... and did I mention death? He is nothing, a negative being who believes only in himself, and cannot see that those who follow him either do so out of fear, or for what is in it for them. As my countryman once said so succinctly: "O wad some Power the gift tae gie us, to see oursels as ithers see us!" I too was outraged at the way the tyrant-on-a-soapbox-made-of-sand's death was done. Here he will reap as he has sown. Thanks so much again for your comments and for reading along. Scar.

I had wondered for a while if the wand was a sort of Horcrux. I wonder if Merlin had accounted for that particular spell or whatever it was. Perhaps he's as pleased as he was in canon when the Tedious One used Harry's Blood in his returning to life spell. I don't know what to think about much of anything, so I'll stay tuned in.

Author's Response: Oh, do keep tuned in, Rose. I promise it will all be as clear as mud by the end. Thanks again for reading along and for commenting. Scaranda

I wouldn't mind chocolate sauce, or even better, cream cheese icing... On another point altogether, I hope narcissa keeps the upper hand. I've always felt she was a loyal wife, a devoted mother who would do anything to keep her son safe, and no Death Eater. After all she saved Harry's life at the risk of her own that night, even though she was really interested in Draco's safety more than in Harry's. But I think she wanted the 'Tedious One' defeated and was willing to take the chance of helping Harry. We have seen plenty of rain and clouds this summer too. The Mid-Atlantic has been inunndated since the beginning of April. We were 5 inches below normal precip at the end of March since them we've made all that up plus five inches more than our normal rainfall. we are now almost six inches of precip above normal for the year. Kind of reminds me of when we lived in the West Riding. At least we didn't get our usual stifling heat in July and August, though August was extremely humid. Nick's shedding has died down a little bit but not by much, he's still a one cat hair facotry who replaces any that he has shed with twice the amount..

Author's Response: Narcissa is a lot smarter than Lucius, Truckie Woo (of course, that could be entirely due to her gender), and I suspect that being Madam de Mal Foi with the trimmings and the perks that entails, without the dubious necessity of having to give much in the way of return, is a not unpleasant prospect. Apart form that, I think she likes Lucius. Shaking my head at the animal thing; I can always tell which room I've vacuumed, simply by the colour of the hair in cleaner, black is Jethro, blue grey is Bert, assorted little brindle things that fly into your mouth every time you breathe, are from the others (yellow is me). We don't talk about the weather this side of the Atlantic; it's a bit like politics and religion (and almost as troublesome).
