Reviews for A Gift of the Goddess

sevvy 2009.02.04 - 03:38AM 7: VII: Time to Let Go Signed
This is by far your best chapter in this story so far, sad though it is. Cassandra is definitely a strong woman and, like so many people when faced with the prospect of death head-on, is coming to terms with it and accepting her fate as she knows she has no choice in the matter. It is of course going to be much harder on Severus, as can already be seen. On a lighter note, I did love the bit about Severus being trapped in the 'sugary pink nightmare' of Eydis' birthday party - can just see him squirming! I await the next chapter with mixed emotions; however, I know it will be written well and with feeling by you, as always. (BTW: I really hope your shoulder is better today :) )

Author's Response: I am very happy you liked this chapter. This and the couple that follow were rather hard to write. Yes, Cassandra is strong, but also stubborn. And seeing as Severus is just as stubborn, there might be trouble ahead. But they'll work it out, I promise. (Shoulder's good, quite sore though. Thanks for asking). Cheers. /M

‘I am considering donating it to Nicodemus’ basket. The tabby is getting old and deserves a warm bed.’ Nawwww! Severus + cat = squeeeee

Author's Response: Wrote that especially for you! Cheers. /M

Another great chapter, with spot on representation of the dear potions master.

Author's Response: Glad you liked him! Cheers. /M

This is definitely becoming more and more interesting! I can just feel Severus' embarrassment at having to spend so much time with the Potter-Weasleys but, as the story says, he is changing - it just shows you the power of love! You are certainly putting a different slant on things; this is an unusal take on what could have happened after DH; The Snapes new life certainly doesn't look as if it's ever going to be boring!

Author's Response: Yes, Severus is changing indeed. The war is long past, and he is slowly but surely making peace with his ghosts. Glad you like it. /M

"Your dad is a bloody fool..." Nawww, he's not, he's just stubborn, complex, damaged, fragile, infuriating, wonderful man! And thanks for the Lucius end note sweets x

Author's Response: Hehe, you're biased. Cheers. /M

That's the trouble isn't it - Severus' self-esteem is so low that he still can't believe Cassandra truly loves him for himself. Whilst I sympathise with Cassandra, I think that perhaps she doesn't acknowledge the extent to which Severus' self-doubt goes and how hard it must be for him to finally have a family to share things with after all his years alone and all his sacrifices. Pity she didn't over hear the conversation he had with Lucius though, when he told him that Cassandra had 'made him complete and that he loved here more than life itself'. (What woman wouldn't love to hear those words!) Look forward to more from you :)

Author's Response: I think it would be much easier for both of them if Severus would just open his mouth and verbalise what troubles him instead of spreading poison. But hey, that's the way we like him, don't we ;-) Thanks for leaving a note, sevvy. Have a good week. /M

I can't believe you've managed to make me cry so much at this (& I haven't even had my breakfast yet!) I absolutely adore Severus in this; I can really see/want to believe this soft side to him. I've seen it before with 'tough' men who just totally break as soon as they see their own child. This is just turning out to be so, so good (even though I know what's coming, you cruel, cruel woman!) :)

Author's Response: Cruel? Moi? I have no idea what you are talking about ;-) Like Poppy said, Severus is a softie at heart. I truly believe that. If he were evil/mean through and through, he would not have turned his back on the Dark Side. But he is a scarred man and doesn't want to get hurt any more, hence the tough shell. Cheers, dear sevvy. /M

I love the bit about the socks and Nicodemus. Of course he is scared! He may be trying to accept his past but he has a way to go yet.

Author's Response: Got to love that cat. And the socks ... so Dumbledore ;-) You are right, of course, Severus has a long way to go until he can make peace with his past. A lot of ghosts will pop up here and there. Cheers. /M

Poor Severus; but at least he starts to realise that he is not alone in his fears. I think we all tend to assume we are so alone with our thoughts at times that we forget we are not the only ones to have them. Sometimes all we need to know is that others share our worries or at least understand the way we feel. Of course he has more than most to be scared about but I'm really glad he finally faced his fears head-on and chosing the 31st October was a great way to realise he is able to change the past. Love the bit about Cassandra presenting him with the socks as she assumed he had 'cold feet' - good one! This is lovely; don't need to tell you again that I'm well & truly hooked!

Author's Response: The socks are my favourite bit ;-)Severus has a lot of emotional baggage, and he is reminded of it now that he has returned to the Wizarding world. Letting go will not be easy. Thanks for your comments, sevvy, they mean a lot. /M

Oh, what a wonderful and lovely piece! And I'm truly glad to read more about those dear two!

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I am quite fond of the two myself. /M
