Reviews for Fondness of the Heart

What a great, original story! It is truly unique. You've perfectly captured the way middle-aged spread can deform a marriage and drive a couple apart. Snape is realistically selfish and clueless, not on purpose but because he's too blinded by his own unhappiness to see clearly. Helen is believable, too, in the way she's lost in her own confusion and sadness, not knowing how to find her way back to the marriage she once had. I loved the way Claudette acted as a therapist, showing Severus how his clinging to two images from the past--an idealized dead woman and the hot young wife who no longer existed--was ruining his life in the present by making him long for something he couldn't have, causing him to ignore the happiness that was right under his big, beaky nose all the time. How sweet that he realized the truth in time to save his marriage and bring happiness back to himself and Helen. Wonderful!

Oh, that is so sweet, and so true of marriage. Lovely.

First - I adore your name. Snow Cake was an amazing movie. Second - I enjoyed the story. I was surprised that Snape wasn't all that snarky and Arthur Weasley handing around with a bunch of former death eaters? I thought the metamorphmagus stripper was a neat idea. Would love to have found out what Lucius' fantasy was!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I agree Snow Cake is a wonderful film. I think my Severus has swapped snarky for plain grumpy as he's aged. I guess the Arthur thing was a bit odd but I was thinking a lot of years had passed since the end of the war and bridges have to be built somewhere. Arthur would be nice enough to give them a chance, especially with no DE activity for so many years. And of course they're the few people still alive of a similar age to him!

This story is very unique, it's very different from any Snape story I've ever read. Until almost the end I was getting angrier and angrier at Snape, and then he went from being a real jerk to a pussycat. It says in the description that it is not complete, is that right? It reads like a one-shot, but I wouldn't mind reading more about Severus and Helen.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. The story is a oneshot - somehow I missed how to show the story as complete. Having said that Helen and Severus are running around in my brain so they may return at some point in the future.
