Reviews for Tears of the Phoenix

I like this very much, because it was actually what I had in mind for my favorite Potions Master, too. How could Rowling not let him be saved by Fawkes? It would have only made sense. I don't get this woman. Anyway, I just have one teensy little criticism: I don't think that Snape would ever say "eh". He is just too intellectual for such a word, in my opinion. Apart from that very well written and Snapish in the way I like it.

Enjoyed this story. I like the fact it was just Harry and Hermione who ended up visiting Snape. True, one can't imagine Ron being part of a "let's collect Snape memorabilia for his memorial service" type. He wasn't needed, anyway. Severus seemed a little more gentle (or at least a little less hostile) than I would have expected him to be. Then again, having finally been able to be happily alone with no masters, nor students, nor members of the press to make his life miserable, it's no wonder he was unlike any vision we've ever seen of him before! Good story; thanks for writing it.

Excellent piece. I very much enjoyed the encounter - and especially the fact that they are still not "friendly" to each other - the sudden worship in DH is not exactly believable. The only thing I would correct: Snape putting Hermione's missive in his robes? I though he was in Muggle clothes. (-: Other than that marvelous piece - and the same I wrote to "The Man Who Lived" applies also here. Iva

Very well written, witty dialogues, and Snape truly characterised. As for the use of the Phoenix, the idea is so very obvious and plausible, one cannot help to take it in consideration. It has been done several times, independently, so there is no need for an apology. Congratulations. Ailura

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I confess to being very fond of this fic, and am glad that you enjoyed it. Writing Snape, in all his snarky glory, is so very enjoyable. And I just love 'how Snape could have survived Nagini' scenarios. I also really enjoyed writing Harry and Hermione in this. Thanks again. :) Pearl

Wonderful! Truly a lovely and well-told tale with quite interesting twists and turns. Just too sad that it's a one-shot - I would have liked to read more about this particular setting and idea!

Author's Response: Thank you so very much for your lovely comment. :) *beams* I do tend to only write one-shots. *blush* I promise that if the Snape Muse strikes, I shall obey at once! Pearl

Oh....my. Kudos for keeping everyone so much in character. Typical of Harry to barge in with a full-blown sense of entitlement, order Snape around, boss Hermione, threaten Snape, and then chastise Snape for disliking him supposedly solely because of Harry's father. Never does occur to Harry, does it, that there might be a few people who just might not like the fact that Harry treats them like they exist only to serve him, and then rubs their noses in his importance? I'm just disappointed that you had Snape act the adult and not take him down a peg, now that he doesn't have to protect Harry from himself, although as I say, your portrayal here is much more in character. ;-)

Author's Response: Oooh well, I don't see Harry the way you describe him. :) He can certainly be a bit bombastic and like a bull in a china shop at times (he doesn't have Snape's subtlety at all, LOL) but I put that down to his emotional immaturity and emotional clumsiness (which is understandable when you consider his abusive upbringing!) I really don't see Canon Harry as arrogant ... his behaviour in this story amuses me, but I don't think it's because he's arrogant. After all, he thought Snape was dead, so it wasn't unreasonable of him to enter the house: his stupidity was because, as Hermione so aptly reminded him, the house might be occupied by Dark Wizards! He's got a lot to learn as an Auror. ;) My interpretation of the Harry/Snape interaction is that Severus always sees Harry through a distorted emotional mirror, so he has to learn a new way of seeing Harry and not always assume that Harry is James Mark Two! I thought Harry acquitted himself quite well here and with quite a lot of maturity, considering the unhappy history between himself and Snape. And Snape ... well, I love the guy to bits, and I had to make him as sharp and Snape-ish as I dared. An overly sappy reconcilation scene between Harry and Snape wouldn't do at all (I can just see Snape scoffing!) But I'm really glad you enjoyed the story. :) Thanks for reading and commenting! Pearl

It is fascinating to see how many different ways there are to imagine Snape's survival - and this is very convincing indeed. I love Harry's very mature patience, and Snape's venomous tongue. *grins* Cúthalion

Author's Response: I really adored writing that: Harry so mature and accepting, although still more than capable of winding Snape up :D and I do just adore writing Snape at his snarkiest. :D Thanks, hon. :)

i loved this story. i enjoyed seeing harry and snape come to some sort of understanding, and i think you kept all of the characters true to their - well, characters, as revealed in the books. it was snape's ignominious death that brought me to fanfic - i always figured he'd die, but rather more heroically. i like how you rewrote this bit of harry potter 'history,' so to speak. :D

Author's Response: Thank you very much! Your reasons for coming to HP fanfic are very similar to mine, too. ;) I'm so glad you enjoyed this: I certainly enjoyed writing it! Pearl

I appreciate how you didn't, like some fics I've read, soften post-DH Snape, but kept him snarky as ever.

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I was tempted to soften him, actually, but decided against it -- I'm very glad I decided not to! I have a higher opinion of Snape's overall integrity than his creator seems to have, but he just wouldn't be Severus without the snark! Thanks so much for reading and commenting. :)
