Well done! I really like the way you view the continuing of this particularly story... I'm looking forward to see what he's going to to now.

Author's Response: Thanks! So glad you're enjoying it! :)

This is terrific. :) I LOVE how you brought Fawkes back! I really feel that Dumbledore failed Snape and Harry on certain significant points - he certainly expected a heck of a lot of them. Sigh. I don't believe that if Severus had survived he would have wanted to remain at Hogwarts. Time for him to have a new life. He so deserves it. And I loved the reconcilation with Minerva (she rocks!) I do so hope you are planning to write a reconcilation between Severus and Harry as well ... I would love to see that.

Author's Response: Thanks! I agree about Dumbledore's expectations. I still adore Dumbledore--but he did disappoint me a bit.... Stay tuned if you're interested in a reconciliation! *wink-wink* :)

Good job with the story. I love how you've kept Snape's character in character, right down to how bewildered his reaction is. Keep up the good work.

Author's Response: Thanks! I hope future chapters won't disappoint either. :)

What a wonderful beginning. I was just musing to myself while re-reading DH with my daughter, that Severus would never have released his most intimate memories - to Harry of all people - unless he felt certain he was dying. I appreciate your explanations of the final episode in the Shrieking Shack. I will be watching for more. Thanks!

Author's Response: So glad that the comments regarding the memories didn't seemed forced--I certainly agree that he would never have divulged those unless he had no other choice.... Poor Snape. *sigh*

Very nicely done - a believable explanation of how Snape could have survived Nagini's bite, and an interesting beginning for his new life. I am looking forward to see where you are taking him. Thanks

Author's Response: Thanks! Glad that Fawkes' role made sense. I hope you'll check back and read more as it's posted.

Brilliant! What a great opening chapter. You have set the tone of this story with such solid emotions and painted such a bleak picture of how Severus views the world that it seems a natural extension of the cannon. I really enjoyed the "truths" about Minerva and I agreed with them whole heartedly. Her distrust of Severus was just as certain a lack of faith in Albus. I guess I still find it so hard to believe that Everyone lost faith in Albus over his long standing trust in Severus at the end of HBP. No one seemed to question what happened ...not one of them (and yet how many of us did!) I can't wait to read more of this story.

Author's Response: Thank you so much--I'm really pleased you think this plays off canon well. Also glad I'm not the only one who was completely disturbed by how everyone turned their backs on Severus at the end of HBP! *sigh*

What a gorgeous piece of writing! I love the slowness, the tiredness, of Severus's interactions as he recovers and the sullen certainty of his decisions. Minerva's trepidation and Poppy's faith in his intentions and priorities are also exquisitely on pitch. I'm usually one for demanding sequels when someone posts a piece like this as a one-shot, but this time, with such a perfect chapter and a promised continuation, I'd almost be inclined to suggest you leave it. Still, I suppose that shows a lack of trust. I see you've written other stuff. I'm off to read it. Thanks for posting.

Author's Response: I'm thrilled that you like this so much thus far. I do intend to continue with it--I hope it doesn't disappoint! Good to know you think it could stand alone just in case, if needed. :)

Very promising indeed - actually taking some time off is extremely sensible, assuming he's built up the means to do so - and the wizarding world is such that a capable wizard likely needs little enough money, as we see no mention of paying taxes (and British 'property tax' _should_ have been charged when Harry inherited 12 Grimmauld place). Severus leaving also makes sense - he never did appear to enjoy teaching. How he's going to deal with visits from old acquaintances will be interesting, certainly, assuming they can find him. Whether Fawkes will adopt him, too, is an interesting question.

Author's Response: Ha ha--yes, the tax man always finds a way of getting you if there's a way--good point. Visits from old acquaintances will certainly play a role in the future I have planned for poor Severus. :) Glad you've enjoyed this so far.
