I think you picked a great moment in time to depict this relationship. Your reader can really feel the urgency, the 'calm before the storm'. IMHO, your characterizations (and this ship) is totally canonical and IC.

What an amazing pairing--one I'd never thought of. (Perhaps my Snape-fic reading is a little too parochial.) But it really adds tremendous depth to Snape's murder of Dumbledore. And I don't see much that is AU about it, even after DH. After all, Snape would never give Harry those memories. Author's Response: AD/SS is my absolute favorite ship--and I don't think it's very far out of the realm of possibility in canon. I figured most readers would think I made Dumbledore too kind--too much like pre-DH Dumbledore (hence the 'slightly AU' warning)--I think everyone's being entirely too hard on Albus, though: I like him better knowing how complex he really is.

I can't say that this is my favourite pairing, but you write it very well and I enjoyed it here nonetheless. It was interesting to see Albus's side of the interaction between him and Severus, and I particularly liked the theme of keeping knowledge back for different reasons. You can't help but feel for both characters here. Author's Response: So glad you liked it--I certainly feel that they're the most complicated characters in the series.
