Reviews for Metanoia: The Conversion of Severus Snape

Rwhen/Julia 2007.05.22 - 03:36PM 8: A Change of Career Anonymous
Well I was wondering how you were going to get SS to Hogwarts. Well done. I guess I was thinking about Snape being caught snooping on the prophecy meeting and how would AD get around that. But now it appears that you have given a reason for it. LV torturing Snape was vile. I missed this chapter when you put it up I guess. Did you post it over there ? ;) I just saw today chapter nine and thought I had missed one. Great work again, keep it up. Will proceed on to 9 now, Mith.

Author's Response: Yes, I had to figure out why Dumbledore would hire a "known Death Eater." I do not think he is a fool, so I couldn't really accept Snape coming to *him* repenting and asking for the job. It had to be more...Dumbledore's idea. LV is a rather vile person, LOL! But he was not amused by Snape's pretended double loyalty. It was not LV's idea for Snape to 'volunteer' to be Dumbledore's spy. The double (triple- quadruple-) agent idea was all Snape. Thank you for your faithful reviews!

Your story is very good reading. I find the background you have is what I would expect JKR herself to have written. Snaps double dealing and self interest is very clear. Also his ego which is very large, is displayed when he realizes how he has been used all along by the DEs. Can't wait for the last two chapters.

Author's Response: I wanted to open up the possibility of Snape as a free agent here, but he's mostly just thinking that way out of spite. He is not sincerely intending to betray either side at the moment, but the thought of being able to is a balm to his feeling of powerlessness. You are right - his ego just couldn't take it. Dumbledore sees this, and tries to soothe him (a bit), but Voldemort is not one to consider such things. Thank you for your review, ambershadow! I will try to have the next chapter up shortly. You have "Snape as a new teacher" to look forward to :)

Oh that so was mean was he thought about doing to a cat! As if killing people isn't enough for him! It would have made more sense for the Dark Lord to give Snape the diary (if that's what that package is) instead of Lucius, because Snape was already going to Hogwarts, but by giving it to Lucius it seems that the Dark Lord does not fully trust Snape. I really liked the ending and the explanation of the Dark Mark!

Author's Response: Yes, it is the diary. The Dark Lord sees Snape as a useful pawn at this point. He wants to use him as a spy, and as such, he wants him to have as little information as possible. Snape is to remain ignorant of the diary plan, though he will be involved, since he is their conduit to the school. If Lucius cannot place the book himself, he'll use Snape to get it into a student's hands. But as we know...this plan never comes off because of what is going to happen at the end of October :) Sorry about the cat, but I feel the need to remind myself occasionally that Snape is not a nice person, especially when he's angry and helpless. Snape, Dumbledore, and Hermione seem the most interested in the theory of magic, so I had to indulge in a bit of that here - also, because there are reasons Snape respects Dumbledore, even if he doesn't always agree with them.

Author's Response: Ah, I write too much! Thanks so much for your consistent and prompt reviews. I am so flattered to have a loyal reader. Only two chapters to go....
