Wow -- so Celeste finally gets to meet a relative! I like the way her aunt is so disapproving of Snape, since most of us here are Snape fans, and sometimes we have to remember that a lot of the wizarding world doesn't look on him too favorably. Thanks for updating so quickly! |

Oh, that was a lovely scene between the two of them at the end. I'm just liking Celeste more and more as this goes on. Good back story for Snape, too -- it explains so much about why he tried to keep himself closed off from everyone. Awesome chapter! |

Nice chapter. I'm glad that she found out a bit about her past and helped to fill in some information for us. I'm a little worried if your story is HBP compliant as Severus must be closing in on his killing of Dumbledore. I'm not sure how you'll reconcile that to your story. Anyway, thanks for sharing so far. |

Ok, so, check this-- I will *cry* if this ends up being a WIP and never getting finished. I realize you just recently updated, but this thing is too real to stop now.
I LOVE your OC. Its so hard to write one. They usually have the stench of a self-insert or Mary-sue. But you've created a very delightful girl that I really enjoy and you've charicterized Severus perfectly.
The way you write allows me to see him standing there in the room, present, and still trying to sort through the reactions he tells himself he should have. I love it. And I REALLY loved the part about Trelawney when Severus said, "She's in Whales?" Her: "Oh, well, um...yes."
LOVE it.
All in all, seriously, remember, I'll cry.
You rock! :D |

I promise to give you a proper review, but first I want to tell you something. I abandoned the world of fanfiction some time ago--probably two years or so. I hit several brick walls in my writing and was disillusioned by both book six and the lack of decent fanfiction to read. Every archive I visited, every story I tried to read (or to write for that matter) was crammed full of Mary Sue after predictable Mary Sue. Don't ask me why, but after the shift back to the original SH archives, I decided to poke around a bit to see what was going on in the fandom. I have always been partial to stories with Snape and an OFC; I have read hundreds of Snape stories over the past few years. So, I looked at the recently updated list and tried to read some of the stories, but I was sorely disappointed. Then, I happened upon this story.
You have a way with words that I have not encountered in a work of fanfiction for ages. Rather than inundating the reader with superfluous purple prose, you seem to give just the right dash of description to a rich, character-centered story. Honestly, I think this is a very well-written fic. I am hooked, and I cannot wait for the next update. I know that it can be very difficult to create and introduce a new character into the HP universe. It is harder still for readers to fully embrace the character, what with all the canon concerns and compliancy considerations…nonsense. Celeste is no Mary Sue; she is a real, honest to goodness character that I want to know more about.
I'm sorry for haven taken so much space in the review threads, but I felt compelled to give you due praise. The only thing I don't like about this story is the fact that it isn't completed because I definitely want to see how this one turns out.

Author's Response: Hi, Ellie.
Normally I don't respond to reviews (as much as I'd love to, time constraints are, well, contraining!). But I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the review, and also to tell you that this fic is actually completed -- it's posted on both fanficion.net and fictionalley. I found this archive much later than the other two and decided to go ahead and start posting here. So if you can't wait for me to keep posting here a chapter per week or so, then you can find the story (novel, really, since it tops out at around 111K) on either one of those sites.
Thanks again for the lovely review!

How is it that the I-can't-help-myself kisses are always the best? What a neat concept, Snape's friend-glass. |

Oh, that kiss! Wow, that was worth waiting for! I'm so glad he found her...good to know that Trelawney comes in handy every once in a while.
Thank you for the regular updates! |
