Gorgeous vignette. I would love to think of this as a missing scene to OotP. Wow. Hermione is just such an admirable young woman--you've written her very well here.

Very nice! Good for you for _not_ making Hermione try to give him a cuddle - your true-to-form Severus would have killed her first and asked questions later. You show the depths of both Severus' and Hermione's characters well and your writing is moving but not sappy. Well done!

So relivent to current times when so many soldiers from all nations must do the same thing. A veteran.

Touching, without being too obvious or too sentimental. I love stories in which Severus shows his humanity still remaining in canon. But what about Dumbledore? Why does he retreat? I think I imagined why, but perhaps you should have given a hint of his reasons, maybe developing further Hermione's thoughts. Hope you understand what I mean, I'm Italian and sometimes I don't find the right words in English. Best regards from Roma. Mariaemilia

So poignant and a view of Severus very few write about or even think about I think. Wonderful story < p>Marti

Wow. This is gorgeous. I do hope this is posted at FF.net or some other place where I can favorite it. And I would really love to read more of your works. If this is the quality of stuff you produce in 24 minutes, I'd bite an arm off to nab what you spare more time to write on. "'Recently.' Snape chuckled darkly." - There were so many great lines here I wanted to point out, but this one probably had the most visceral effect on me. I actually stopped reading and -winced-, very physically. Hermione, brilliant girl that she is, is right in being surprised that Snape would lash out at Dumbledore, even given his general dark mood; it only serves to emphasize just how much pressure this man is under - and much of it from his own making, I would dare to guess. Very painful for Hermione to witness; very painful to read, which is exactly what an angst-magnet like myself loves. Good characterization for Hermione all throughout. Her calm, studious nature, her irrepressible curiosity, her strong compassion, her righteous anger. Nothing out of place. I can begin to see where so many Snape/Hermione pairings spring from. I am glad, of course, none of that slips in here. Instead, this piece is just very, very human. Thank you for that.
