Reviews for Insidious

My God. How prim and proper can you get? I love this. It's rare that a fiction will make me laugh out loud, but this line did. "...communicating with criminal elements or calling one of those filthy hotlines."

What wonderful writing! "rumbled by a Muggle housewife" Snort. And interesting how you've shown Snape's and Petunia's common points. I'm very curious to know why Snape (and presumably, Dumbledore) want to pull a lynchpin in Harry's current security set-up.

Author's Response: When I first had the idea for this story, I laughed for I can't tell you how long imagining Snape and Petunia forced into some association ("Why, she'd beat him about his head with her purse and ring the police and then he'd murder her", I thought); but then, when I started writing, I saw that they had more in common than I'd realised.

Wonderfully written, very vivid scenes. I can't wait to see what a Snape-Petunia meeting will be like. Will they be able to bond over thier mutual hatred of Harry? Also, my favorite sentence: "It certainly wasn’t the kind of nose she’d want anywhere near Privet Drive." Just so Dursley, Love it!

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying!

I still can't get over how much like Hyacinth Petunia is. On Keeping Up Appearances I've seen Hyacinth duck into alleys or other unsavory places for similar reasons. The old woman, Mrs. Mountbatten-Wolley-St John-Blye, her name sounds just perfect for one of the characters Hyacinth is always trying to impress. I love the name of the town by the way, Uppityton, how perfect. As for the carrier bag, Marks & Sparks? I think both Petunia and Hyacinth would have managed a Harrods carrier bag at the very least. A town with a name like Uppityton would surely have a branch of Harrods somewhere. I wonder if Petunia was a byproduct of Daddy's, her flower name would fit in his family. Lily's name would be a bit too classy for them. Your Petunia has me fascinated but I'm getting curiouser and curiouser to find out what Dumbledore's plan is and how it concerns Snape and Petunia, and most of all, what happens after Snape is introduced to Petunia.

Author's Response: Well, I didn't especially model Petunia on Hyacinth, but there are similarities, aren't there? ;-) And alas, there is only one Harrod's, so it'll have to be Marks & Sparks... Thanks for reading and reviewing, Trickie.

I can't wait for this to continue! I'm curious to see how Snape and Petunia will intereact together and to find out if they'll ever make their way to the Woolley Arms. :-)

Author's Response: Well, I can promise that he'll NEVER take her to the Kilty Pleasures ;-)

Where, of where are you going with this marvellously crafted, exquisitely worded, deliciously written tale that makes me wish I could read it till the end right now?!?

Author's Response: ...er, I'm doing all right with the mystery/suspense bit then? ;-)

I hate to keep repeating "wow," but the paragraph that includes "the desperation of wanting, no, of needing, to be taken for something different" is so powerful that I can't think of anything else to say. Even if the plot itself didn't seem compelling, which it does, I would keep reading just for that.

Author's Response: You can't know how much it means to hear that, Deeble. Cheers! I hope that neither the writing nor the plot lets you down. ;-)

"Women who abhor the sight of filth will crouch down amongst it, and that boys who swear, sobbing, that they can’t abide bullies will become bullies themselves, all for the perceived chance to rise in another’s esteem."

This line just floored me. Wonderful insight!

This is developing into a great fic ... plot, characters, description ... all of it is so well done. Can't wait to see where you go with it!

Author's Response: Thank you!

Good heavens, you must post another chapter as soon as you can. I am on pins and needles wondering how this meeting will go. Interesting that you've got Petunia already acknowledging his presence, though not perhaps consciously. Rather, she noticed him because of his unusual appearance was was thoroughly turned off by him. I think he could see that. Quite wise of Snape to realize what desperation can do to a person; he would know first-hand, I think, but it also bodes poorly for Petunia. She'll have to be controlled, I think. I am most anxious to see the plan that Snape and Dumbledore have cooked up.

Author's Response: I'm so glad I've aroused your curiosity--mystery/suspense is a new genre for me! The whole story is more or less written, but I'm doing the final edits and having it beta read a few chapters at a time. I'll try to stick to weekly updates, RL willing.
