So many lovely bits of narration in this chapter. I love the inventive ways in which you describe sunlight, the passage of months, etc. And the delicious alliteration, of course. | 03-26-2007 16:37 I liked all the F-words. An interesting chapter, though I still have no idea what the plan with Petunia is--a state I suspect you are putting us in intentionally. And of course I loved Wormtail's attempts to order his collection from the basement without attention to provenience. Are you an archaeologist? You sounded a bit like one there. One quibble--Snape's sarcastic line "Do I now love Potter as a father is meant to love his son?” sounds like a hugely obvious clue to those of us who've read all those Snape-is-actually-Harry's-father stories. I suspect that this is not a direction you really mean to go, and if that is the case, it is a bit distracting. Thanks, as always, for posting another clever, well-written, intriguing chapter. Author's Response: I'm so glad you pointed this out to me--I have never read a Snape-as-Harry's-father story. I do know about them, but obviously not enough to realise how a line like that would play out! It is a clue of sorts here, but more than that it is something that would make sense for Snape to say in this situation, given what he is trying to accomplish. More than that I won't say, but rest assured that I am not positing that Snape is Harry's father, and please accept my apology for the unwitting distraction. Oh, and I have, indeed, put in some time with The Order of the Trowel ;-) | |||

Again wonderful chapter. Very nice how you inserted Lily in both Snape's and Petunia's daydreams. The witch ? who played with paper clips as a child, I am thinking must be a relative of Arthur Weasley--amusing :) . Not to mention Feagal's battle with a squirrel. This is the most outstanding fic I've read in along time! Subtle and real relationships instead of ships. Great work! I would never have thought that seeing Petunia as a human being would make a great read, but it does here. scatha _p Author's Response: I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond. This review made my day the first time I read it, and it has done so again. I am still absolutely loving this story! I also like the lengthy chapters, despite the wait between them. We all selfishly would LOVE you to update more frequently, of course, since we are enjoying the story so much (at least I am!). I'm happy that you are continuing it and look forward to the next chapter, but I realize it might be a while. . . . Thanks for sharing your story! (I am very curious about Severus' motivations, I must say -- and I love what you've done with Emmeline Vance!!!) Interesting, all those books moving around. And I like the way you (or the potion?) juxtaposed Snape and Petunia here, both starting out with headaches, both remembering Lily and not happy to do so, and then both having tea afterwards. I'm really intrigued with your story--however long it takes you to post it--and I do wonder where you are going with it. Half-Blood Prince and... after, you say? Seeing that we're only through the first week of school, it's clearly going to be a saga. Thanks for posting! Author's Response: Saga? Merlin forbid! The story is actually over well over halfway posted; the pacing for the school year events is much faster, as the canon schedule does not allow for a great deal of interaction between Petunia and Snape during this time. These are a few of my favorite things: Phoenix Securty Systems. :-) And, "Real English food, Petunia! None of this sesame crusting and spice rubbing you see everywhere else these days.” Of course this is to be adored: "Vernon flushed and mumbled something into his glass about working men and jam tarts." Oh, this was a delicious chapter full of Muggly cats, Sod's Law and Snape "in full sail." Author's Response: I know you'll not hold it against me then when I admit that, out of the entire bloody story, the jam tarts line is the one I'm the most fond/proud of. It cracks me up every time I read it, which is (a) dorky and (b) a tad narcissistic, but hey... ;-) | |||

fun to read chapter full of subtle humor. If only JKR would show where Snape's loyalties definately lie. The explanation as to why the potion's book wind up in Harry's hands fits both your story and canon. | |||
