Reviews for Reverto ut Obscurum

Yike! This is dark and creepy. The whole part where he was putting on the DE robe and mask was just so very chilling. Whose side is he on anyway?

Author's Response: Only JKR knows the answer to that; the rest of us are just speculating.

Wow! This creepy! It made my skin crawl... and brought to mind that Fleetwood Mac song about walking a thin line.

Author's Response: I hope you meant that in a good way. :^) A little darkness and creepiness is good for you every now and again. Thanks for reviewing.

I like how you write the temptation of the Dark Arts and how hard it is for Severus to deal with this addiction. Well done!

Author's Response: Thank you. Power is as addicting as anything else. No matter how good and noble we want him to be, he's still only human. I can't see how it would be possible for him to completely leave all of that behind.

Very lively description, Cathy, very good. Have you decided whether you will continue or not?

Author's Response: Thanks for enjoying! This was meant to be just a one-shot but I think my plot bunny is pregnant. I may have to continue.

Loved it! I can see that Snape's Death Eater persona would be something he has to reconstruct after so many years, and I love how you pulled together so many hints from the books and JKR's interviews. A very plausible interpretation of the "compartmentalized mind" that is necessary for Occlumency. After I finished reading, it was impossible not to wonder if he feared returning, not so much because he feared death at the hands of LV, but because the Death Eater persona is so seductive that he might not be able to put it away again. Would love to see this continued.

Author's Response: The next chapter is in the works so stay tuned. I only hope that it will be equally enjoyed. Ever since I reread GoF I've wondered about what it would be like to return to a life that he had tried to leave behind. What was he really afraid of? Hopefully Book 7 will answer that question. Thank you for reviewing.

Whoa! That was a very interesting begining, so much in such a little space! Interesting to see Snape's dual self and how he wrestles with both. Hope we get to see more of this. :)

Author's Response: It was initially intended to be a one-shot, but it's also one of those things that I could easily add on to at some point. As always thank you for the review.

Ooooh creepy, and very believable. I *loved* that moment in book 4, when Dumbledore sent him to Voldemort. I knew he must have been scared spitless, but he went.

Author's Response: I know I would have been. Now the big question is: Why is he so afraid? Is it because he's on Dumbledore's side? or because he doesn't feel that he can convince Voldie that he's still loyal to the Cause?

This is powerful and dark--a very interesting interpretation on how things might be. (Frankly, I think you've got it right!) Your descriptions of both sides of Severus' persona are quite accurate and realistic. He would have to possess some thirst for Dark Magic, would have to relish the power ofbeing a Follower, and would have to be wise enough and talented enough to hide his duality from Voldemort.

He would exact revenge on the society to which he had never truly belonged. Even though he bought into the idea that 'some should have power over many,' he knows that the basis of this idea is wrong. He's been hurt and ostracized by Death Eaters, even while being accepted by them and while amidst their presence. And I think it would be lovely if he came out on top in the end!

Author's Response: Providing that there is any duality to hide. Read into this what you will. Nothing will be certain until Book 7. At least I hope things will be more certain.

Yes, I did enjoy it, very much! I have to imagine that it is a _very_ fine line he walks....he must seem to become his old evil self, but what is to say he does not actually become his old, evil self in truth? "Lead me not into temptation...."

Author's Response: The line is razor-fine, and it's hard to tell what side he walks on. Here's to hoping that he will be 'delivered from evil...."

This is such a delightfully chilling story! Watching what Snape has to do as he prepares to return to Voldie is so compelling--painful, and yet one can't look away. There are so many heart-wrenching bits in here, like the picture of his mother, and his reaction to the memories of his former deeds. I think you've captured this moment very, very believably! Well done!

Author's Response: That moment was bugging me ever since GoF the movie came out. And like all good Snape parts, it wasn't part of the movie. :( As always, Verity, thanks for your input and putting up with me on ICQ.
