Reviews for Beholden To No Man

I think Snape would be very awkard, as he doesn't exactly have a lot of experience with women. I like that about him, as it makes him more human. Oh well, hopefully he will be able to sort things out soon. Will Remus ever be able to fully overcome the transformation?

Author's Response: Thanks, Amanda. You are right that Snape would be very awkward. That whole lack of experience would definitely play into this. As for Remus, that will be revealed as the story progresses, though it would be nice to be able to spare him that, wouldn't it?

I really love this story and "Wounded," best wishes for the MFA's and keep up the awesome work!

Author's Response: Thanks, amycnorm. I'm glad you have enjoyed both stories. I think going the route I did has made it better in the long run. :) And thanks for the good wishes for the MFAs.

Poor Severus. He is trying so hard. Aurelia needs to sort out her feelings!

Author's Response: Severus is the unlucky victim of a confused woman. Hopefully she will get herself straightened out before he gets too frustrated.

I'm enjoying the interplay between Snape and Eileen/Irma, she does know him well even though she's been out of the loop as his mother for years. Adrian is as nosy as Dumbledore, I wonder if he has all the facilities Ablus had to keep track of everything that happened at Hogwarts. I wouldn't be surprised if Eileen and Adrian start conniving together. At least he got to write the note on his own, even if it was a very romantic note. Update soon, I'm anxious to find out how their dinner at the Three Broomsticks went.

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoy the Snape/Eileen interaction. That was a late addition to the story, but I'm glad I did. If she started colluding with Adrian, I don't think that Severus would have a chance. LOL I'm working to finalize the next chapter so it should be up soon.

"He found his inability to understand women quite frustrating." Quite true. But now, that he has his mother as an adviser, things should become a little easier for Severus. At least I hope she will not be as meddlesome as the headmaster. For now, I am looking forward to the next meeting between Aurelia and Severus. Keep up the good work :o)

Author's Response: Hopefully he will listen to advice that his mother gives. I like to think that Albus left instructions that Adrian is make sure Severus socializes. ;-) I hope you will enjoy the next chapter and the dinner scene...As for him finding women frustrating, don't all men at some point? LOL

oooo - what a fantastic plot twist! Can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Thanks, rfoster. More is on the way. :) I'm glad you are enjoying this story.

Hmm, the idea of Snape in a romantic relationship is interesting, because I imagine it would not come easy to him. But now that Voldemort is dead, he can have that, and I think it would take an assertive, intelligent woman like Aurelia to break through his walls. Hopefully you continue to keep him snarky, defensive, and awkard, because anything else (sentimentality, tenderness) is quite out of character.

Author's Response: Thanks, Amanda. I'm glad you like the idea of Severus finally being able to move on. I have a wonderful beta, thanks Zen Lady, who is more than happy to smack me around when I get too romantic. I'm working on getting the next chapter ready for posting. :)

Oh bog! I just did not expect that. Hah! Well done on a brilliant bit of lateral thinking. JKR eat your heart out.

Author's Response: Thanks, Black Spot. That was a fortuitous bit of fortune I got from Hells. Had she not mentioned it in a beta return of my Deathday entry, I never would have had it in this story. I have to thank her again for that little mention. :)

What an interesting and unexpected revalation (about his mother)! I have heard of this theory and this is the first time I have seen it used in a story! Great job! This chapter was very well done. Severus was so....Snape! His dialog was so very like him in tone and verbage. I could almost hear his voice (or I guess it's Rickman's voice *sigh*)! I like how you have set up the upcoming chapters. I look forward to more.

Author's Response: Thanks, greenwood. I have to say that I haven't seen this incorporated into a story either, though I have read only a few post-war fics, so that might have something to do with it. I'm glad you like how I've portrayed Snape. I'm going to once again thank Zen Lady for smacking me back in the right direction when I started to stray a little too far away from Snape. :) Actually, that would be make him change too quickly. *wink*

You're right about the choppy, or maybe it should be rough and stormy, seas when it comes to the romance, he has the social skills of a geeky 13 yr old. Do you remember Kevin's friend Chuck on "The Wonder Years"? That's about where his social development is, with a nasty, snarky, and sarcastic side that Chuck didn't have. Notice I tired to keep to the nautical (read Naval) way of putting it that you started with smooth sailing? I've got a question for you, were you at the Academy the year the printer made a mistake and used Navel on the diplomas instead of Naval? It just goes to show that everybody needs a proof reader.

Author's Response: Thank goodness I was not part of the "Navel" class. I think it was either '94 or '95, so I was there. When we heard about it, we couldn't believe it. I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks Severus is emotionally immature, but given how he treats Harry, he has proven that he is capable of some serious regression. I do recall Chuck, but only vaguely. Thankfully, I've seen enough media, met enough awkward people in real life, that as long as I keep focused, I have no problem imagining the immaturity.
