Reviews for Jehane Desrosiers, Chapter 1

TWZRD 2006.03.16 - 02:51AM 3: Chapter 3 -- Discipleship Anonymous
Love the premise. Perhaps the most original basic idea I've run across. Nice conversational writting style, too, I think. I said I wouldn't start any more unfinished fics, but the title was too tempting. Absolutely do not fail to finish it. I will be annoyed! Thanks for sharing this.

Author's Response: Thank you! It's already finished and here in the vaults at LookfarCo., so it will most definitely end up complete on Occlumency. I hope this encourages you to keep reading, and I'm always glad to have concrits as well as positive feedback, because I keep pecking at it even though it's done.

Haven't had a chance to read it but CONGRATULATIONS! Who did you have to blackmail? Or murder? Or bribe? ;} Glad to see the story here and hope to read it again as soon as I can. Amorette

Author's Response: I had to buy a gross of discount commas and insert them where directed. I confess, though, that Occlumency has forced me to clean up my sloppy attributions and taught me some things I did not know about punctuation. *Bows head penitently.*

Lovely! I seem to be starting a lot of my reviews with that today, but lovely, just lovely. You take the threads of a character that could be a major Mary Sue in all respects, completely sans any plot to even link her to Severus, and spawn this beautiful thing. As a sucker for French influences and an avid former student of the language, I think you've carried it off marvelously here. You slip in the little translations and words so naturally and write with a flow that really recalls that of French itself, which I really, really appreciate. And you do this all with a Beauxbatons student with a wierd, potentially Sue-ish name, a potentially Sue-ish angsty storyline, and a hippogriff. I'll never see them the same way again, I think, thanks to you. Write on! ;)

Author's Response: Thank you for your very kind words. Most of the story is done and waiting to be posted, so I promise to keep it up.

Your writing style is remeniscient of Victoria Holt and maybe Nora Lofts with a touch of Daphne Du Maurier, they were 3 of my favorites when the were still alive and writing. I learned another new word, yurt. Will that happen in every chapter? Your description of the fox and the grapes reminds me very much of astained glass panel I once sawillustrating that particular fable of Aesop's. And here's another new word, autodidactic, meaning self taught. I agree with you on the so-called ignorance of Muggle culture, I think it would be totally impossible for any of them to be that way after they were no longer toddlers.

The first thing I want to say in that I learned a new word from this story, crepuscular which means twilight or lit by twilight. I was exactly like Jehane after my son died, that could have been a description in me in my bedroom. What brought me out of it was the piano we bought that Christmas, after I started taking lessons it filled my day and left me less time to brood. You're right about naming animals, 5 years ago my husband gave me a Himalayan kitten as an early Christmas present, he had named him Pffernuesse. The kitten wouldn't answer to that name, he turned his nose up at it. I tried a few others and then I remembered the day we got him was St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 6th. He liked that name and he's been Nick ever since. This is a well written beginning to a story, keep the updates coming.

Author's Response: Thank you for reading! I'm trying to keep updating -- most of this is already written and waiting to go up, so I promise, especially once I figure out how to jump the hoops at Occlumency, that it will be complete eventually. I am sorry about your son. It's unimaginable. I wrote this story while my mother was dying, so I suppose that's where the theme of loss creeps in.

I read your story a long time ago, and it was fantastic. I'm very glad you decided to add it here.

HOLY COW, Batman, you're HERE! I ran into your gorgeous story over at AFF.net long long ago and I am so glad you found your way to Ashwinder. So nice to see you. I hope you are writing lots and well.

Author's Response: Well, I'm never writing lots, but like the tortoise, I keep repeating, "Slow and steady wins the race." I'm hoping to get Occlumency and AFF caught up to each other and then post a new chapter every week. Thanks for stopping by.

I absolutely love this story. So glad to see your adding it to Occlumency. I hope to see you write some more Snape stories in the future!

Author's Response: Thank you, Mysduende. Eventually there will be new chapters, and finally -- an ending!
