I like your ending so much more than Rowling's. Thanks for sharing.

So incredibly angsty! Great story, West Dean!

Author's Response: Thank You Jay! I am glad that you enjoyed it.

I fear that this is going to be all too close the real thing. That Snape will die just as Harry realizes how very, very wrong he's been about him. :~(

Author's Response: Thank You! In interview JKR seems to suggest that she has set up this enmity to last through to book 7 so I doubt that Harry will manage to understand Snape until the end!

I agree, he isn't a coward, just bitter. I wondered if Dumbledore knew Severus was honest because of The Unbreakable Vow. I like they way you constructed this one shot. Open, and informative with a very strong hypothesis, one I share.

I thought his "DON"T CALL ME A COWARD" outburst was disturbing, and ambigous, as always. Does it signify that he does secretly feel himself a coward? A murderer? A lap dog? Or does it signify that he has done courageous things that must never come to light?

When I look at his reaction- physically hurting Harry for the first time ever- I am unsure. I only hope it was a total lose of temper that did that, not a true desire to harm him. With that said, I enjoyed your take on it very much, although the end was so sad.

Author's Response: Thank you for your kind words. Snape's words "Don't call me a coward" inspired this piece - I have found this line to be incredibly haunting and memorable. I really hope that Rowling goes into detail about this outburst in book 7.

liked that harry finally realises what he done and what a brat hes been

Author's Response: Thank You Zaffy! I know you think Harry a brat anyway but I'm sure he will not work many things out till the end of Book 7.

I just hope it doesn't end this way. The reasons are as I think, but I wish for a happier ending.

Author's Response: I would love a happy ending for Snape but I think that HBP has made that impossible!

Sadly, I think something like this is destined to happen. Good job.

Author's Response: I wrote this piece very quickly. Since then thinking about how Rowling has treated the themes of redemption, personal debt events occurring in cycles I now actually think that it will be Snape's fate to put himself between Harry and Fenrir!

I think it's very likely that something like that will indeed happen in Book Seven. Good job!

Author's Response: I think a battle between the two is inevitable!

Your Snape is a bit soft but I agree with the concepts. I think JK used HBP as a springboard to astonish once more by doing a Sirius on Snape in book 7. We can't be sure of her intentions but there are so many questions that HBP raises about character (Dumbledore begging not to die, Snape failing to taunt a fallen enemy) and plot (Dumbledore expecting Snape to save him when it was clearly impossible, Snape lifting another's Crucio from Harry and giving him duelling lessons) to name just a few.

Author's Response: Yes I agree that Snape is rather OC but I was trying to emphasise a strong link with Lily that I felt the new book had highlighted. I hope that JKR is "doing a Sirius" but I am still not sure!
