| Dylan is so much fun. Your OCs are great: interesting, well-developed, rich backgrounds and quirky. And I like bringing the Americans into it--surely there must be witches/wizards everywhere. Here's an improvement: "As he passed near a door that had the two ‘planted’ Aurors standing outside at rigid attention, he sneezed spectacularly—the signal that the transfer had begun." I hadn't really understood this before. Now it makes sense to me. AND you did it in just one sentence. Nice work.
Author's Response: OH, thanks!! I'm glad this works for you. In my brain, the 'sneeze' being a 'signal' was obvious, but more than one person pointed out to me that... "huh??? Why does it matter that he sneezed just then?" I'm always *so* glad when people tell me something doesn't make sense, because then I can fix it. I'm glad you found it to be an improvement. | Oh this was such a sentimental chapter. Remus and Rowena are finally getting along. To think all they needed to do was to find someone they truely felt for and have them put in a deadly situation together, thats all simple enough right? I think it has to be one of the bests when it comes to naturalism of the characters (well your interpertation of them at least). Severus not wanting to hear Rowena say that she loved him although he knew it was what she was going to say was right on the mark. Rowenas gentleness is blooming and she is becoming a great OC. Thankfully you had comic relief in this chapter or else it wouldn't have had the impact it has. Excellent job on this one. Author's Response: Thank you very much! It means a lot to me when someone says the characters feel natural. This was actually a slightly terrifying project to attempt at the start, because Snape is a hard character to 'do' properly and keep him in-character, and it is almost impossible to write him with an OFC without falling into one of a million 'Mary Sue' traps. I've had great betas through out the story who have helped me with this a very great deal. I'm glad you liked Dylan. He will be popping in from time to time through out the school term now, of course. For a 'sideline' character, he is very fun to write. Next chapter should be in the next day or so, kids' illnesses at my house have slowed down my polishing work slightly, but several chapters are now in the hands of my betas so you shouldn't have much longer to wait. | Great chapter! I hope all goes well for Severus and Tonks. I'm glad to see that Remus and Rowena are getting along now. Author's Response: Oh, yes, me too. I really like Remus, and really wanted the chance to explore his character a bit, too, as well as Snape. I wasn't "up" for attempting a slash story, but I liked doing it from this angle. I can be just a little harsher with his 'known' flaws since he is being seen from the perspective of people prone to be critical of him. There will still be some ups and downs there, but they are definitely on the solid road toward healing. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm a wee bit behind in my polishing work, but the next chapter should be up in a day or so. | |||
