Reviews for American Witch

Trickie Woo 2005.07.02 - 11:31PM 3: Dabbling Or Just Interested? Signed
It's getting very interesting now. Was the effigy of anyone in particular? Is it used the same way as a Voo Doo doll? I wonder what her secrets are?

Author's Response: The effigy was generic; she hasn't actually practiced any Dark Arts (as of yet, anyway). It's used much as a voodoo doll would be used. And as she guards her secrets very carefully, it's going to take quite a bit to learn them. Her past is murky, even to herself.

She is rather a bit too powerful for the average OC to get away with. But you've pulled this off before, so I'll take a wait-and-see on the possibility of Mary-Sue-ness. What *really* intrigues me is wondering what she is actually up to. There's obviously more going on with her than meets the eye. I'm a little surprised that Severus is willing to trust her as much as he is. At this moment, I wouldn't put it past her to betray him to Voldemort. Talk about needing to watch your back!

Author's Response: The 'wait and see' attitude is what I'm hoping for from my readers. There really is more to her than meets the eye just yet. Thanks for the response! (And the vote of confidence).

My first impression is that this girl would have been sorted to Slytherin if she had gone toHogwarts. I loved where Binns finally come to term with the fact he had been dead longer than he'd been alive and retired. His post retirement plans were good too, haunting other places. The duel was very intersting, she is more powerful magically than Snape is. His pride will fight that for a long time.

Author's Response: Yes, but it's a struggle not to let her become a "Mary Sue" sort of character. I'm hoping her particular vulnerabilities will show up more clearly later on . . . Thanks for the response!

Okay, so she is extremely beautiful, intelligent and has all these special, extraordinary powers - be careful! She already fits the profile of a Mary Sue. It is going to take some pretty fancy fingerwork on your part to strip this story of all its cliches. But I have faith in you. Let us see where you take this....

Author's Response: *groan* I'm trying, really . . . but you're right, she sounds so much like a Mary Sue. She isn't; there is a dark side to her, but the challenge is to show it without painting her all black as well. Well, let's hope I'm up to it . . .

Hmmmmmm, this seems to have interesting possibilities. I look forward to the next installment and (hopefully) meeting Miss Carus in person.

Author's Response: Thanks!
