Reviews for One By One

Wow. This may be the most terrifying Snape I've ever read. I mean, he actually SCARED me. So devoid of empathy. Canon details are woven in so well that his motivations seem completely plausible. (Of course, I choose to believe that Snape is really a Good Guy At Heart), but this story is so well crafted that I totally buy Sociopath!Snape. Great snarky dialogue. And these lines stuck with me as particularly gorgeous: "He does so want to be liked, this poor sad werewolf. My hatred eats at him like a cancer" "I savour the moment, watching it stretch thin like a soap bubble about to burst..." "There I find ample evidence of Umbridge's inability to control students, which is desperately amusing in light of her overt mania for controlling everything." Chilling. Very enjoyable. Thanks!

Author's Response: And thank you! What a kind review! It's always great to hear what worked and what didn't. I'm very glad you liked the story; thank you for reviewing.

that was quite the chill going down my spine. That was way too plausible. Definitly time to go read some honorable-but-misunderstood!Snape for recovery purposes.

Author's Response: LOL! Thanks! I hope you're not offended when I say that I'm delighted to hear that I've traumatised you!

Oooo, shivery all round. You write an excellent Evil!Snape. We all hope he isn't, of course, but this is clever and very well-written. Brava. Amorette

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I'm delighted you liked it.

WOW! This was Evil!Snape at his best, and disturbingly canon-like. I loved the bit about him being interested only in power, not in men or women. Having Black be able to see through his schemes but be powerless to stop him was a cruelly brilliant touch. Snape has it all figured out, in such a brutally twisted obsessive way, it was such an evil joy to read it all. The strange thing is, I feel more pity for Evil!Snape than I do for his more noble fanon counterparts. Here he’s let a childhood incident warp and shape his life for *years*, to the point where even his compassion for Minerva is based on her part in his past. I know it’s way beyond the scope of this story, but I can’t help wondering what Snape will do when the Marauders are finally all dead. Great story, thanks for sharing.

Author's Response: Thanks Winna! You always write such lovely and thought-provoking reviews; I always look forward to hearing what you have to say about a piece!

Evil!Snape does have a weird sort of charisma, doesn't he? The way I was writing him here, Snape is most emphatically *not* someone you should feel any sympathy or pity for - and yet I began to really like him too. After the Marauders are all dead, I foresee this Snape feeling very happy and smug about it, and losing all interest in aiding either Dumbledore or Voldemort. Their battle was just a means to an end for him, and not something he actually cared about. And I see his "compassion" for Minerva as just an intellectual response to the fact that she once sided with him, rather than against him. This Snape is a sociopath; he doesn't feel any empathy for other human beings, and he has likely always been that way.

I feel a lot of sympathy for Lupin in this story, however; I tried to show Remus falling head over heels for Snape, whereas Snape only seduced Remus because he knew that he could hurt him much more effectively that way. It will be extremely hard on Remus when Snape finally shows his true colours (especially given the warnings of the now-dead Sirius) - but that was Snape's plan all along.

Fantastic!!! This is the best Evil!Snape I've ever read...the machinations behind his plotting are worthy of Machiavelli himself...Congrats!! I'd love to see this continued... :?)

Author's Response: Thank you for your lovely review! I'm glad you liked the story. I've been idly thinking about a companion piece to this, featuring things from Lupin's point of view, but I think I'd have to know what happens next in canon before I could embark on that, i.e. I'll have to read Half-Blood Prince first.

This was chilling...it is my nightmare Snape...the one I hope JKR is NOT hiding. You have brought him to chilling, cold-hearted life. This is a wonderful story.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm delighted that you found him as scary as I was trying to make him. *evil grin*

BWAAAAAA! I love your fics, mouse. Your writing is as polished and sophisticated as Snape's plans for vengeance.

Author's Response: Is "BWAAAAAA!" a good thing? I'll assume so. :D Actually, that was the response I was going for with this story, so I'm delighted to hear you say that. Thanks Apothecaria! Glad you liked it!

Whoa ... are you the same author who wrote "The Silver Potion" and "The Cat"? Did this story come from your evil twin, stealing your pen name?? Amazing! This is incredibly well-written, with numerous canon details intertwined and everyone in character, although I fervently hope you are wrong about evil!Snape. Scary!

Author's Response: Hee, hee! No, it wasn't my evil twin - it was the evil twin of my usual quietly noble Snape, who showed up with a riding crop, hijacked my plot bunny and rode the poor thing around on the keyboard for a few days. Poor plot bunny; it's still got marks all over its bum from the rough treatment. Thanks for your lovely review, June! I'm glad you liked the story.
