Reviews for Ashen and Sober Skies

You do such a wonderful job of laying out each chapter, piece by piece, and giving us a bit of the larger picture you have with each chapter. It's so easy to imagine all this taking place in my mind as I read. Great job!

Author's Response: Well, thank you. I'm glad that you are enjoying the story, I certainly enjoy writing it.

Wonderfully well-written as usual, and explains why even the good memories had to be cemented together with the haematite-coloured stuff - it's emotional pain of all kinds, isn't it, not just his genuinely guilty memories, and there can hardly be a momeory in his ehad that doesn't have soem pain in it.

At the same time I can't help feeling Minerva is being feeble here - especially for a woman of her age, who has lived through both the Muggle World War Two and the magical war with Grindleward. She must have known, if she ever gave it even a moment's thought, that if Snape was to spy on the Death Eaters successfully he would have to play along with what they were doing to some extent, enough to look convincing. Incidentally, how does Minerva know this is a memory from when he was spying, as opposed to when he really *was* a Death Eater?

Author's Response: Thank you. As for Minerva, I think that idealism is an affliction common to Gryffindors. I honestly don't think that the reality of what she had been doing even occurred to her until it was literally right under her nose.

Poor Minerva. It really hurt when she realized that ivory tower wasn't quite as white as she thought it was, didn't it? This makes me realize that asking Severus to spy was not only hard for Severus, but was hard on Albus as well. This story continues to be an incredible emotional roller coaster.

Author's Response: That's the plan... I'm glad that you are enjoying this so much.

How painful to begin remembering things and to discover memories like these! Astronomy...this sounds like it has potential for something interesting. Wonderful, as always!

Author's Response: Thank you!

I'm quite pleased to be betaing this story and it was no problem to get all the chapters dumped on me. :)...this has been a wonderfully engaging story, so very unique. I was so very happy to see some sanity and awareness returning to our dear Severus. And that his hands are once again useable as hands. He's been through so much and it's nice to see some sort of good news for him. I still see a long road to recovery, but at least he's starting to travel down it.

Author's Response: You always make me feel so warm and fuzzy. Thank you!

Yipee, he's remembering things! Not all happy memories, but memories nonetheless. I loved the use of categorizing the herbs to help order his mind. I hope you had a great vacation. Send pictures? Please?

Author's Response: I'm sure I have an email address for you somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Send me an email, and I'll be happy to fill your inbox with more pictures than you know what to do with. :)

I am so glad to see this story updated! I hope your vacation was inspirational! This chapter was very well done - giving us the first insight of how Severus views his own memories. I was glad to find his hands were not totally ruined either. This journey with his mind will be very interesting. I look forwarded to more!

Author's Response: Thank you! I large portion of credit goes to my new betas, whose suggestions were invaluable.

i am intrigued. Keep going please!

Author's Response: I'm plugging away at getting this finished. Fortunately, I'm in the home stretch of writing it, and I hope to have it done and completely posted by the end of October.

Thank you for this lovely story. It is understated but very moving. I look forward to the next chapters.

Author's Response: Excellent! I'm glad that you have found it so. Fortunately, the next chapters should be going up pretty quickly.
