Reviews for Rowan's Secret

Mary Ella 2005.05.28 - 01:49AM 7: The Solstice Signed
Plot purposes or not it is a crafty way to weave a story, not to fast with other distractions woven in, i.e. Edgar. I like the way this is unfolding, very mysterious at points and so outright at others, nice blend, good balance.

Author's Response: Thank you!

Boyle and Wart! Those names just crack me up! Rowan's goof with the fabric was just so perfect--she thinks she's got it and then...zing! Obviously, though, bad things are ahead, and she'll have more to worry about than invisible fabric.

Author's Response: I've been looking forward to springing that one :*)

Oh, my! I'm so sorry for them, mostly for Rowan, but Snape won't like the situation either. He has feelings for her and he'll have to do a horrible thing to her. How will they overcome the situation? And I'm worried about the potion too, because now Voldemort will have the key ingredient... Poor Rowan! And I didn't even read the next chapter...

Author's Response: Yes, dealing with the fallout will keep both of them pretty occupied for a while. I've seen the general 'Voldemort forces Snape to rape a student' plotline in other fics, but I do think I found an original twist or two to put on it. Hope you think so too. Enjoy, and thanks for reviewing!

I knew it was coming. As long as it's not too graphic I will read Chapter 8. I don't remember if you established why Rowan was staying at Hogwarts for the holidays other than for plot purposes, did you?

Author's Response: It's not graphic at all, I'm planning a somewhat lemony scene (or two) but this definitely isn't one of them. I added the flag because the concept is still pretty squicky. Anyone who's been raped - and I hope this applies to none of my readers - probably doesn't want to read about it, and deserves a clue.
She stayed ostensibly to work on her project and study for N.E.W.T.s, but really for plot purposes, as you surmised :*)

I'm really curious to know where this is leading to. Please update soon. I have a suspicion that Snape won't listen to Dumbledore this time...

Author's Response: What, you don't think everything's going to be just hunky-dory now? What a suspicious mind :*)

"Snape's very snarkiness, his seemingly complete disregard for what others thought of him, were signs of integrity to Rowan. She never trusted people who seemed too nice to be real." What a lovely insight! So, Snape is about to try to leave Voldie's service. Sounds...hazardous.

I was going to tell you that I knew the more famous lyrics for "To Anachreon in Heaven". I was born in Baltimore and until we move to the country My cousins and I were regularly taken to Ft. McHenry to play. Every schoolchild in Maryland, or at least central MD, was required to know at least the first verse and extra credit was given for knowing more than one verse. My husband was a career military man and we settled in Maryland after he retired. I have no idea what the words are for ;T Anachreon in Heaven". It looks like Rowan is in danger, what will Snape do, I wonder. What will Dumbledore do? The potion is far to dangerous to let Voldemort use it, but Snape must prepare if to spare his own life. Can he sabatoge it, or maybe he could 'accidentally' throw some on Voldemort? If his followers turned on him that would prevent a war. When Potter finally kills him can we throw in Lucius too for good measure?

Author's Response: wikipedia has the original lyrics. I'm pretty sure I can't link here so you'll have to look it up. The song is in praise of writing poetry about drinking and sex. I don't think I could have made that up. At one time the same tune was also used for the national anthem of Luxembourg. I really couldn't make that up. Lucius isn't nearly as scary as Bellatrix. She's some piece of work.

I started reading your story tonight and I am enjoying it. It is in the same vein as Verity's, but very different in plot. Her story has changed my mind about Snape/Of Age Female Student stories, I still won't read Snape/Hermione or Snape/male student, [or anything remotely slash, it's particularly unappealing] but now I am checking out all the Snape/Of Age Female Student stories to see if I like them enough to read all the way through. Your story I will stick with till the end. In chapter 4 Voldemort says "I will require Snape to provide the key ingredient, in our presence." That tells me what will drive the plot, but I hate the thought of Rowan losing her virginity in such away, I wish it could happen in private for her sake. At least it will be to Snape, whom she loves, and not Malfoy.

Author's Response: I spotted Verity's on ff.net when she was around chapter 14 or so and got badly hooked. I'd had this thing half-written already then and the similarities/differences to my own story made hers even more interesting. It's like getting to see the other path, the one I didn't go down. I wasn't going to show mine to anyone, but she inspired me to take the leap :) Glad you're enjoying it, and thanks for reviewing!

Thank God for Snape's sagacity! I was worried that Voldemort would find out about him too soon. But now, I guess he will have to obtain the missing 'ingredient' and I think this won't help matters with Rowan, because she seems to be living in a world of fantasy where she will tell him how she feels and they will live happily ever after. Although I understand why Snape is attracted to her I still find the image of him admiting to himself that he likes a student a bit strange. I always thought that he was the kind of guy that would wait until the last moment to admit even to himself something like that. It's odd to see him pining for her at a distance.

Author's Response: If he did realize it though, he'd be way too strait-laced to act on it. At least that's how I read him. Now, stories that have him a bit...less restrained...do have their charm ;) , but this isn't one of them.
