Reviews for The Great Snape-Deveroux Grudge Match - Part III: Farewell

I'm so glad you're continuing this story. I read your review and explanation and I agree. This is a three-part story and we need it to complete the first two. I always loved this whole series because it deals with so many characters and the larger range of the HP world, although from a perspective that shows us how Snape affects the whole story. I hope you'll complete this story and that this isn't one of those situations (as in other authors) where the writer comes back after many months with one chapter and then we never hear anything again. I've always felt that this was one of the best written of all the HP stories I've read, even if it is very, very AU now. Thanks for not giving up on it.

Author's Response: Awww, thanks! Well, if it makes you feel any easier, the second half is in the que as we speak, and Hawk and I have been going through the upcoming chapters. Things may get a bit more sketchy between September and November (I'm going back to school, am taking a practicum and still am working full-time.) But rest assured -- this story has NOT been abandoned.

Hello, I'm Pigwidgeon's co-writer. Although I also read your reviews, April usually does all the replies, since she's the main author of the story, and I'm just helping out a bit. But I wanted to address the question about posting this story to Occlumency, because I think if I don't answer this, then the whole point of Grudge Match may be missed. People affect stories as much by their absence as by their presence. Much of Part III has, and will continue to deal with Snape's absence and how it affects all the characters who remain at Hogwarts, not to mention the wider scope of Dumbledore's war plans. If you will patiently bear with us for just a few more chapters, you will find out more about what has become of Snape, and how his current situation is just about as bad for Aurellia and Hogwarts as it is for him. We hope that by the time we get to the end of Part III, you will decide as we have, that Grudge Match is really one story told in three parts, not three separate stories, and as such, should be posted in one place. And, that fundamentally, Grudge Match is primarily a story about Snape's role in the Harry Potter universe and how that role both affects and is affected by others.

Author's Response: I couldn't have put it better :)

I thought this story was a gonner after the last book came out since we saw not hide nor hare of an update. I am SO pleased to see an update that I can't tell you in words how happy this makes me! I felt as though poor Snape was trapped in a limbo of torment with no escape. I am relieved to see you have come to continue this epic tell. I am hoping that this game of Dark Cauldron is teaching the group something - like team work to defete the Dark side (since it looks like they will have to be using their wits when the war takes a turn toward Hogwarts). It is very interesting to see how sides are aligning as some Slytherins begin to merge with the Gryffindors to become "Harry's team" and the lable "Gryffindor" seems to have been dropped. I hope we see more updates from now on (that the muse is back in action!) so we can finally find out Snape's fate (good or bad - at least it will conclude one way or the other). Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming back to us!!

Author's Response: Yes, as I said, the next part is in the que. Fall may be sketchy, but I'm hoping that updates will be FAR more regular. Thank you for sticking with us!

What is this story doing on Occlumency? Parts I and II, perhaps. But this story does not belong here.

I'm so glad you didn't abandon this story. I discovered it about a month or so ago and think this is by far the best Harry Potter fanfic I've ever read. Keep up the good work, and updates please.

excellent. i love the plot and the character development. there's alot of emotion in the whole story and you've managed to make the reader feel what the characters are going through... please don't stop, it would be a shame to let this story go untold keep it up!

Author's Response: Wow, thank you! We are trying to wrap up the next chapter as we speak (type?)

After further consideration, I have decided that Remus is not in character on certain points, primarily his view of Severus. In OotP Remus is portrayed, not as agreeing with his friends, but because of his fear of desertion he chooses to do nothing. Yes that's cowardly and by doing nothing he was guilty also, but I don't think he thought Severus deserved it. Some things he may have felt were simply equivalent as pay back. He no doubt tried to convince himself at the time that he was doing what he ought to, he's too thoughtful to be able to delude himself that long. I think he would have seen more of Severus's side and even though he convinced himself not to at the time eventually he would have. I don't know if any of that makes sense or not, I don't half the time. But I'm very fond of Remus so I read a lot of fics about him. I've seen quite a few variations on his character and I think you're pretty close but not quite there. However, maybe when future things are revealed (I squeak happily at the thought) I will have greater understanding. So if you actually bothered to read all that, thank you for listening to my concerns.

Author's Response: I agree with you on Remus -- he doesn't quite fit canon, after what we see in OoTP. Please bear with us, though: The bulk of this was written or outlined about a year before OoTP came out. We were going by our own educated and semi-educated guesses (not to mention some far-fetched thoughts). The canon characters may differ a bit because of when we started, and we have pretty much decided to stay on with our outline, with a few very minor exceptions. Thank you for reviewing!

I know you've said you'll continue, so I'm holding you to that. If you don't, I might explode then my mother would make you come and clean me up, so there. Besides you have to tell us why Cobb and Snape loathed eachother.

Author's Response: Well, sure wouldn't want that! Actually, my co-author and I were talking about the next chapter, and *crosses fingers* I think it's nearly ready to be sent to our lovely beta.

But...but...but WHAT WERE THEY GOING TO TELL HER? She knew about the magical world and that Remus's a werewolf so what were they going to tell her that was so important? Your writing has improved quite a bit since the first installment, but then one has to build these things. And why would Luk have left important things like that in the shrieking shack of all places?

Author's Response: Thanks -- I agree, Part III is better than part I, all in all. Not sure what you mean about the Shrieking Shack (may have to reread, heh). And as to what they had to tell her...eep! Well, you'll find out before the end.

Okay, now I'm going to strangle Ron. Emotional capacity of an egg cup indeed.
