Reviews for The Knight Errant Chronicles

rayvyn2k 2004.12.11 - 09:40PM 62: Part Third: The Hart Subvertant: Chapter 36, Continued Signed
Another wonderful chapter. Like the others I loved the scene with Lady. I also liked Draco's crush. And Emily being tempted to "initiate" him is so true to life. She's stronger than I would be... ahem. *kidding* Glad to read that Snape and Emily will be together soon...wonder if he'll find out *everything* she had to do...? And his reaction...? I think there may be fireworks in store....

Author's Response: Oh yeah, you're right on all counts, babe - after all his father's dissemblings, I imagined all that honest boy-lust would just get under her skin something fierce. And you bet there'll be fireworks when Emily and Severus finally manage to work things out - those two will have LOTS to talk about, and since they've known each other, they've made "argument as foreplay" into a high art. All I can say is, Stay Tuned!

Oh, this is gonna be so much fun! *hugs* Thank you for continuing such great entertainment and keeping all of us on our toes. I can't wait to see how Catherine's research turns out!

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying, it sweetie! Oh yeah, the iron-burn cure is going to be a *very* important plot point, believe me. Stay tuned!

Darling Sev won't be alone for too long? That is definitly good, but when? Hmm.. Draco seems to be the most cutest little boy ever, if you know what I mean. Can you arrange something so that Draco can somehow lose his virginity by Emily? Drug Emily or something.. And after the little occasion, Sev could be extremly forgiving and take her anyway. We all know that Sev knows that Emily couldn't have done anything about the drugs.. Going sort of insane here.. Do you mind? Oh, and when is Harry and Hermione coming into picture?

Author's Response: Don't think I'm not tempted to throw in a little Draco/Emily, especially since I think Tom Felton is SUCH a little cutie, for jailbait. Yes, Em finds Draco tempting because he's everything she likes about his father, and none of what she doesn't - blond and gorgeous and sweet and lusty without all that corruption and evil. Lucius lite, if you will *drool, sigh* BUT, he's only 15, an innocent KID, and one with a real honest-to-god sincere crush...sure, Em's having an affair with a married guy, but could she possibly stoop so low as to seduce a *child*, and one who looks up to her at that? And don't worry, Hermione and Harry will turn up later, we haven't seen the last of them.

Thank you for another great chapter. Loved the scientific correspondance. As a non-scientist, I just don't see how you even make this up!! It really lends wieght to your story. And I love the brilliant "little" touches, like Emily's deciding what jewels to wear to dinner. The small scene with Lady was brilliant - insight to the real character of Snape, a view of Emily's inate kindness, and a reflection of Lady's home - I wish I could call the local ASPCA and find her a better home! My one complaint (please forgive me) is that you have cast Draco in a more understandalbe light - while he is still an arrogant little jerk, you understand WHY he is that way. With such terrible parents and no true good friends besides Snape (and you can't really call him a friend of Draco per se), I would really hate to see him hurt badly by Emily. Granted, it is Lucius who is setting him up for disappointment, but if it goes too far, Emily will take the hit for rejecting Draco. I cringe when I think about that happening. But, as usually, you have crafted a well written, fascinating chapter. Thank you.

Author's Response: You're welcome, babe, I'm having a ball writing it, and I'm glad folks are enjoying it. I am so glad I kept the scene with Lady now, since the readers seem to be liking it so much. And you're right - Em would hate to see Draco hurt too, and it really would be her fault if she encouraged it to further her own agenda. Crushes on unattainable people are of course an adolescent rite of passage, but the circumstances usually aren't quite so murky as they are here...

I just loved Snapes cynical assessments of his peers. The best part of the chapter. And Lucius gets worse and worse. He makes me feel queasy... - Marianne

Author's Response: Excellent, I'm glad the Snape-snark came across as good 'n snark-ay. And yeah, Luce really is getting pretty nasty, isn't he? And he's not done causing trouble yet, alas...

Oh next chapter please! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait! Nessa PS Thankyou for your reply to my Emily/Snape question, am very happy that they will end up together......eventually.

Author's Response: Don't worry, love, it might be sooner than you think ;-)

Oh Guern...this blows me away. In this last chapter, there's such an amazing "Gift of the Magi" sort of parallel going on...Snape's devoting all his energy to curing iron burns so he can protect Emily, all without her knowledge - and meanwhile Emily's degrading herself so she can find out what the Death Eaters have planned for Snape, in an effort to protect *him*...it's both fascinating and heartrending to watch. Damn it, if they only knew what they mean to each other. Please don't keep them apart much longer, come ON! I know they're just characters in a story and I shouldn't get so emotionally involved, but it's hard not to!!!

just, gah. Guernica- you blew me away once again. I can't say, and dont have the time right now, to elaborate on how excellent these two updates are. I love the balance of science and smut, the way you've melded the worlds and motivations. And can I say I'm actually a little intrigued at Draco/Emily? Awful of me, I know, but you've just presented it so tantilizingly...

Author's Response: Ah, houses me love, glad you liked the scientific bit, I had lots of fun with that slightly science-fictiony angle, I'm glad folks are enjoying it. Yep, I couldn't just let Emily off the hook and present her with a less than morally ambiguous situation, now, could I? How fun are *those*? Bah - she can't just be icked out by the idea of marrying Draco - nah, she has to find him cute...and sweet...and despite herself, kind of sexy...no, bad Faerie, bad Faerie, stop thinking about debauching the jailbait some Beltane, no no NO!

Ok...somehow I missed that the previous chapter had been loaded a while back. While that was disappointing, it did give me twice as much to read this time around. As much as I enjoyed the long introduction to part three, at time I remembered thinking, "this is so great, but I can't wait to get back to the current story." Now however, I'm so glad that you took the time that you did to set up the characters of the death eaters and their wives. It's amazing really. I feel like I know each of them so well. I loved the little bit with Lady. At least someone as Malfeasance misses him! :) I'm also wondering how things are going to turn out for Draco. Seeing this part of him, it seems that he is mostly just a spoiled child and really hasn't "turned to the darkside", for lack of a better term. I am hoping that the Draco in your story will have a chance to be saved. It was great to see Severus' letter make a brief appearance. I do hope she'll receive it at some point. Excellent work as usual. Update soon! :)

Author's Response: Yes, there was a bug in the system when SH updated the sites, but it seems to be fixed now ^_^ As to when Draco "turns to the darkside"...I figured there was probably a certain age at which one could be initiated, and Draco probably hadn't seen all the really heinous stuff just yet...but knowing the character in canon, he'd probably jump in with both feet, alas. As for the fate of that letter...remember, he didn't burn it, so there's always the possibility she'll get it sometime...stay tuned!

This was just brilliant. My earlier reservations have been completely thrown out the window and my faith restored. Loved Lady's characterization of SS, very telling. Interesting too, that Emily understood right away whom Lady was refering to, rather than being surprised and pulling the sort of "what? that vindictive bastard?" or "well, maybe he never shouts at *you*," reaction she might have had earlier in the story. Again a surprising depth and chilling accuracy to Mezentius' character. Perhaps he and his oldest sister share a peculiar insight into the darker side of the human heart, and how to use it to get what they want. But my absolute favorite aspect of this chapter was how Emily kept hearing Severus' descriptions of the Malfoy party guests in her head as she greeted them, and how at one point, she even longed for his ascerbic criticism to cut through the haze of lust and moral confusion. This is just a wonderful development. It's one thing to admire or desire someone, but it's something else entirely to actually think of that person as one of one's "better angels," guiding and supporting even in his absence. I can't wait to read more. I'm looking forward to the debriefing Emily will give SS when she returns to Hogwarts. And, one more thing, yes I did notice the all-too-brief return of the "Dear Miss Swain" letter. Well, at least he didn't throw it in the fire. :-)
