Whew. Unexpected, I must say. Wonder what exactly Lucius did to her during the bloodletting. Racking my mind to the section where Snape was developing the potions, but I can't remember something specific. So, how does she get out of this one? I'm looking forward to seeing how you unravel this knot. houses

...Christ. I'm not sure where to begin with this story in general. In this era of Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Bananafanabobeskas, who are half angel, half elf, half vampyre, a third unicorn, and just a smattering of dragon, Emily is not just a breath of fresh air -- she's a refreshing gale. From its very start, I have always admired your writing -- well researched, in character, and vivid without venturing into the dreaded purple prose. When Emily gazed at that mirror image of Dorien, I could feel every ounce of her longing, her need, and her pain. Let me also add that you write an awesome Voldemort. He's not just the torture-crazy, delusions-of-grandeur-having, megalomaniac that's been done to death: yours has a powerfully persuasive voice. I keep having Dracula flashbacks when I read your Voldemort -- they both would sweep you off your feet to get you to commit any unnatural act they could device. And with chapter, yet again you leave us with another cruel cliffhanger, dangling the literary crack just out of your readers' reach for another week. So get crackin' already*, and get the next installment up! --Megan (Brainchild) *Pun intended.

Author's Response: Wow, Megan, THANKS-YOU! You and Lee and khylaren and so many other kind folks really know how to make a humble scribbler feel appreciated, truly. You gals make me wanna write like the wind! I get the feeling you'll find the conclusion of Ch. 38 to be very exciting indeed :-)

Gah! I hate to admit it, but my patience is wearing a bit thin. The callbox flashbacks are lovely, but I really do wish there had been more than just the her-hand-over-his thing on the tower. It seems like every time Emily and Severus spend any time together that starts to get interesting, she gets yanked away (by Dumbledore, by Lucius, by the arrival of Cecile, something...). Are you doing this on purpose? Oh, and you had to pick my near-favorite secondary character (Molly) for the murder target, didn't you? Come on, Monday!

Author's Response: Ah, believe me, there will be more to the Emily/Severus relationship, and SOON. It's been at a continuous slow burn since the two of them met - and it's coming to the fore for both of them now. The reason the two of them keep "getting yanked away" from each other is because they're fighting a war, after all - there are forces much bigger than a thwarted romance between two Professors at work here. And truly, life is just inconvenient that way, especially in the Potterverse. However...did I mention that relationship is due to heat up *really* soon?

aaaauuuuggghhhh! the suspense is killing meeee!! just gets better and better! you've done such a great job of the "how could I have fallen for such a jerk" turnaround, it's all happened so naturally where as the story progresses we see just a little more of Lucius's true nature, and just a little more, and just a little more, till we've gone from "yum" to "eeeew" right along with Emily. I look forward to and dread the ending of this story in equal parts.

Author's Response: Yes, unfortunately a lot of us wimminfolk have witnessed men make that infamous transition from "yum" to "eeeew", haven't we? No hints as to the ending though...all in good time!

Oh my... That was truly great. Monday can't get here fast enough. Now that's evil. That piece about Molly Weasley was simply pure genius, since it's a no-win situation. It makes my mind gears switches frantically since I don't know how you can play it believably so that Molly don't end up dead and Emily still very much in the spy business. I tip my hat to you.

Author's Response: Oooooh, now I can't wait until everyone sees the next chapter...!!! The suspense is killin' me! ;-)

Thank you for not letting my nightmare come true! I was afraid Emily might keep the promise of Dorien coming back a secret, and thus fall prey to the Dark Lord, at least for a longer period of time. I'm incredibly happy I was wrong, and I love that she seems to get on better with Snape now. Those flashbacks she has are interesting too :) This new development with the task is scary, though, and I'm eagerly awaiting next Monday, and the next, and the next. I think I'm in love with this story!

Author's Response: Yay, thanks for all the kind reviews, darling! Yes, it's tough for poor Severus to see her going through the whole "Death Eater initiation" process - for him it must be like watching someone you care about naively strolling into a pit of quicksand and being powerless to save her. But luckily, she does seem to be taking him seriously, even if she does do the opposite of what he advises most of the time. She is truly lucky to have someone like Snape on her side though - he really did pull her back from the darkside this time, and she knows it. As for the resolution of the initiation task - all I can say is NEXT CHAPTER!!!

I think I see Sev around the corner! Now that Dorien is out of the way and Lucious is not even in the league, Sev can take his rightful place beside Emily. All I have to do is wait.. Oh, and I think I hate Lucious more than I did before, if that is even possible. I loath him! And I also hope that no harm will be done to Molly, which I am sure will never happen. Emily isn't like that. Anyways, please write before next Monday. I wouldn' be able to wait that long..

Author's Response: Awww, poor Dorien has been "out of the way" for some time now *sniffle* - but Em was very much in love with her husband, so perhaps she wasn't quite ready to let go of him yet. However, her decision to flat-out refuse the offer to bring him back might mean that she's starting to recover from the loss enough to want a real relationship again - and not as just some rich man's piece on the side. As for Molly, you're right to assume that Emily would never willingly hurt her, not in a million years. All I can say is, the next chapter's coming up soon!

Guernica, you have managed to turn two of the most easily dispised characters (Malfoy and Snape) of the Harry Potter universe into whole, belivable people. Having Voldemort try to persuade Emily by showing her Dorien was beautiful. Blood letting? Molly Weasley? I can only wait impaitently for the next chapter.
