I absolutely adore this story! I can't wait to read more of it!

Author's Response: Thanks, babe! I usually update on Mondays - check back then for new chapters :-)

I've just read through the first part...had to take a break when I couldn't focus on the screen anymore sometime in the wee hours of the morning. This story is certainly what fanfiction should, at it's best, aspire to. The origional charachter is well done, and the way you have meshed the inclusion of the origional charachter and the storyline into the canon of the already written books is great. I like the slow build, I love how Snape is...and feel bad for him too over the misunderstanding and the way he felt used by Emily. I could see him feeling that way and it just makes me wish to lock the two of them in a room together after a good dose of veritaserum to clear up their respective false impressions of what the other is thinking.

This tale is beautifully told, with a good mix of intrigue, mystery, tension, humour and realism amidst the fantastically well fleshed out history of the fae. This story is going on the top of the reccomended reading list. Now, on to part two!! I'm going to have to pace myself and make sure I don't abandon my writing while reading this. Oh...if you can't tell...I really, really, really like it! :-)

Thank you so much for sharing this story, I'm shocked you're spending your time in fanfiction when you so clearly could be making money writing origional fiction...but I'm not going to complain, as it gives me something wonderful to read amidst the beloved world created by Rowling that you do so well.

Author's Response: Thanks, Rachel, you are most kind to encourage an amateur scribbler thus! I got the idea for a story that ran concurrent to the events of "GoF" and "OotP" from a Tom Stoppard play called "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" and decided to do my story in a similar "Meanwhile, in another part of the castle" format. I've always wondered what was going on when none of the kids were around in the Potterverse, and wanted to flesh out that side. And yes, what with the response I've gotten to this story and my 2 others, I've really gotten excited about finishing one of my original novel projects and getting an agent - I'm going to do my best to do that within the next 2 years. Meanwhile though, I'm sort of in love with this story, and intend to see it through to its conclusion. Again, thank you very much! :-D

Why oh why is this story listed on the "recently added" list for today (Monday), yet there is no new chapter? Is something wrong?

Author's Response: Yes, alas, I'm having some technical difficulties as far as getting the next KEC chapter up, but I've let SH tech support know about the problem, so hopefully it'll be solved soon. For now, KEC is on hiatus till next Monday. However, to make the wait easier to bear, check out a new short story I've just put up at Lumos: http://lumos.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=1487

One more thing.. When Voldy showed Em the mirror, Em saw the shape of a man with dark hair and pale features. The first person she thought of was Sev, not Dorien. She was worried that Voldy somehow knew that she fancied (or just plainly had sex with him in a telephone box) Sev. The thought that the man might be Dorien only came when he was nose to nose with her. She has obviously gotten over him. Dorien is her "late" husband. As in that he isn't her husband anymore. She is leaning closer to Sev than Dorien. That is for sure. Oh, gosh.. I hope Sev and Em lets down their guard sometime *soon*. Their almost undistructable walls are quite frightening. It's almost unbearable to see those two apart from each other. Love was made for Sev and Em. (From the song, "L-O-V-E.")

Author's Response: You're absolutely right - Emily's attentions are turning from her grief over Dorien toward the potential for a new relationship with Severus. Sev has the advantage of being alive and available, of course, but he also has many of the qualities she loved about her husband - intelligence in spades, bravery, devotion, loyalty, and perseverance (not to mention that dark, sexy nonconformist thang going on.) And although Severus is very much his own person and isn't a copy of Dorien by any means, he can drive poor Em to distraction in much the same way. I agree that the continuing separation is getting unbearable - but we'll be seeing some resolution to that SOOOON!

Great fic. Just two comments: you're spending waaaaay too much time on the details of her dresses. I just got into the habit of slipping my eyes down them. Also, the whole "Parry, riposte" and "Disengage, retreat" thing is too similar to something like a chess game I saw in another fic. Is it a new fashion? It's fine except that while I'm reading I'm reminded of the other fic and it's like a distraction, ya know? Good work. Keep it up.

Author's Response: I'm not familiar with the chess-game scene you're referring to, so any similarity between that fic and mine is entirely coincidental.

he's not spying on her now, is he? tracking her or listening in or something? she checked herself for magic and all that but perhaps he has something up his sleeve that wouldn't show to her. i dunno...tricky bastard. i love that she's thinking of severus during. but stop teasing me!!! and dear me...how will DD, severus and emily get her out of this killing molly thing...

Author's Response: You think Lucius might "perhaps he has something up his sleeve that wouldn't show to her"? Smart girl! I guarantee you that he does - we'll see more on this later.

You know the part I liked the most? Where I squealed like a little girl and did the whole toddler-fist thing on the edge of the desk? Where the black-clad figure in a flowing cape strode up in the mirror and she's frantically thinking to herself "No, I haven't told anyone, I don't want him like this, not unless he wants it too..." *hugs you very very tight* You're amazing. Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: I get the feeling you're REALLY going to enjoy Ch. 39, 40, and 41...but no spoilers...

Hooray! I come back from vacation to find two chapters waiting for me. Loved the bit of tenderness between Emily and Severus. And now it takes thoughts of Severus to get her excited. Whoohoo! I can't wait to find out how she gets out of killing Molly.

Some months ago, I lost track of this story and only just found it again. Much to my surprise, it had grown by nearly 20 chapters! And again, I'm absolutely enchanted and taken in by it. The way you write is vivid, intelligent, and challenging. The way you handle and develop character that we were only allowed mere glimpses of in J.K. R's books, is nothing short of brilliant. The ever-twisting plot is just as engaging as the characters. I should very much like to see you take the world of fiction by storm. No mercy, no quarter given.
