Reviews for The Knight Errant Chronicles

Emelye 2005.10.20 - 11:03AM 93: Part Third: The Hart Subvertant, Chapter 50 Signed
EEEEE! I just can't stop smiling! Your characterizations are so perfect, when they do get lovey-dovey it's just so damned PERFECT! *Squee!*

Author's Response: Thanks, Emelye! Yes, Severus strikes me as the kind of man who'd retain his dark, snarky edge even when he was shamelessly flirting with his lover - and Emily enjoys the hell out of that. Plus, this moment of calm in the midst of the struggle is something to be treasured. Thanks for reviewing!

Once again, you appeal to the purient part of my soul and to my intellect. I can't believe how much I liked the whole schoolgirl in the classroom encounter - I am totally not into that underage sort of thing - but this was so HOT. (I worry about her being a redhead during the fantasy - hope this does not feed those who are delusioned about Lily and Snape!). I loved Emily going through the school books and your showing how he came up with the spells. That must have taken a great deal of thought and research, but then again, it IS you attention to detail which makes this story so special. Thank you for another great chapter. Lisa (Barkley)

Wow. Another great chapter. I don't know how you do it. I really wish I could think of something else to say to encourage you...I just can't! The story is just too darn good!

Author's Response: All the encouragement I need is to see faithful reviewers like you leave kind and generous reviews like this! Thank you so much!

You kinky minx, I can't imagine the dreams I'm going to have after reading this particular chapter. And I am beyond relieved that the pair of them have FINALLY admitted to each other how they feel. I'm guessing Lucius's letter was more out of a sense losing a favourite toy than a real sense of thwarted love - or is Voldemort trying to play Snape & Lucius off against each other for giggles?

Author's Response: Thank you, darling! (Yes, I have it on excellent authority that when two teachers who both work at the same school are dating, sometimes classrooms and offices see some...interesting encounters after hours.) And yes, indeedy, you are right to suspect Malfoy - it would seem that the more high-flown and oozing his letters become, the more he's trying to manipulate his correspondent. You're also absolutely right to think that Voldemort isn't above playing Snape and Lucius off each other, using a woman they both want, or just about anything as bait. Voldemort still wants Emily to bring more Fianna into his ranks, and if Lucius can't talk her into it, Voldemort is more than willing to see if Snape can. Stay tuned...!!!

Ah, Guernica. Sublime as ever. After hundreds of thousands of words, and half a bazillion chapters, this is still such a treat. I could not disagree more completely with the reviewer who said Emily was in Sue territory. She is a fully-realized character, with a (painstakingly detailed) backstory. Yes, she is magical, she is beautiful, she can kick ass, and Severus loves her, but she didn't just show up with all of those abilities for sh*ts and giggles. I often refer to Emily as a character who, but for the grace of good writing and hard work, could be a Sue, but most definitely isn't.

Author's Response: Thank you, my snarky pair o' knickers, this means the world to me. Indeed, it would seem to me that your average Sue is all about showing up and flouting her perfection to everyone who'll listen, whereas Emily never wanted to come to Hogwarts, and as Snape has noted more than once, it's like pulling teeth to get the woman to open up sometimes. That whole Mary Sue accusation is such a slippery slope - it would seem that the definition of a Sue is ANY character who has any claim to ordinary good looks, intelligence, or talent. But oh well, as I've observed elsewhere, I'm writing high fantasy here, not a documentary piece about the poor and disenfranchised. To each her own! Again, thanks for your support :-)

"I'm going to get fired and go to hell for this" Definitely the best part. I love how you're integrating all the little bits of Snape that your readers like to see... the detention... the Heathcliff act when they put on the show for Voldemort... the tender stuff... it rocks!

Author's Response: Thank you, my dear! A friend recently confirmed my long-held suspicion that teachers might act out the occasional "naughty student being punished scenario" in their private lives, so that scene was a wink to a certain faithful reader. And you're absolutely right as to my inspiration for certain scenes - Snape has long struck me as a descendant of Heathcliff, Mr. Rochester, and their extravagantly passionate kind *sigh*

Excellent, as always. The "naughty schoolgirl" spanking scene shows just how much the couple trust each other, an example of "those who play together, stay together." I donīt believe one whining word that Lucius writes and confidently expect him to be planning something in the next chapters! Please donīt skimp on the minor descriptions of food, dress, furniture etc as that makes this story really come alive. Good introduction of HBP stuff too.

Author's Response: Thanks, squeeze! Yes, I usually don't like Snape/schoolgirl BDSM scenes because I can't stand StatutoryRapist!Snape no matter how well written, and I also don't like the joyless solemnity of most BDSM scenes. If you're going to show a character getting spanked and then lustily taken from behind, for heaven's sake, I think they should have FUN with it, durnit! And yes, Lucius is pulling out the stops, probably because he's realizing that his hold over Emily is just about gone, and he's desperately trying to get it back. All I can say about what our villain will get up to next is...Stay Tuned!

'Bout time she thought of the whole glamour-detention scene. Very nicely done. Spanking was well deserved... and enjoyed. Unfortunately, the whole Malfoy thing is really driving her well beyond Mary-Suedome. I mean: Snape, Lucius, Draco, Lucius' brother-in-law (not to mention her late husband and some fellow who killed him for her)... is there anyone left who hasn't fallen head-over for the woman? Besides, wasn't Lucius now boinking some other girl (some secretary, was it?). Now, after major sreaming match from her, Malfoy's all "oh, PLEASE take me back or I'll DIE" Kind of OOC for proud, "get whomever I want" Lucius. Nice that she didn't flip when he told her she had taken the love potion. I was expecting a fight. Glad it didn't happen.

Author's Response: Here's just a partial list of people who have NOT fallen head-over-heels for this fic's OC: Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter, Arthur Weasley, Ron Weasley (or any of the Weasley boys for that matter), Hagrid, Flitwick, any Gryffindor boy in Harry's year, Remus Lupin, Alastor Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt, any of the Death Eaters besides Malfoy, William Blake, Alain Collier, Laurent Collier (who Emily fancied but who did NOT fancy her back), any of the male Tithe pages from '78 other than Lucius, Lord Puck, Roddy Sellars, etc. etc. Bartemious Crouch, Sr. loathed her from the first, Barty Crouch, Jr. tried to have her killed, Sirius Black barely bothers to hide the fact that he thinks she's nuthin' but a big old slut, and let's not forget that good old Voldie's so smitten that he Crucio'ed her. Plus, Draco can't be said to be "head-over" for Em - he's just a schoolboy with a crush (and he does seem to still be dating Pansy Parkinson, regardless of any crushes on older women.) Lucius's brother-in-law is NOT head-over-anything for her - he's just a mercenary who'd be after any good-looking woman with a bit of money. Plus, Lucius isn't head-over-heels for Em so much as he wants to control her, and possessiveness isn't love. Also, don't imagine that just because Lucius pulled out all the stops in a letter trying to win her back somehow means that he *sincerely means any of it* - if he was as "head-over" as all that, why did he walk out of the room after Em was Crucio'ed like nothing had happened? Why did he start an affair with another woman the second Em said she couldn't see him for awhile? (Have you really missed the fact that Malfoy lies a LOT?!) The only two men who can be said to sincerely have fallen for Emily are Severus and Dorien (and poor Dorien is sorta *dead*, ya know.) I don't think it's unrealistic for a reasonably attractive woman to have had two serious love relationships by the time she hits 35, especially if her first love died when she was all of 31. And as for Robinett - uh, he wasn't in love with Em...he was a *murderous stalker.* Just because some guy is obsessed with a woman doesn't mean that she's some kind of femme fatale - it means HE'S a criminal! But alas, those who seem bound and determined to look for Mary Sues *will* find them, regardless of the author's intentions.

Great chapter. I see her plan is coming together well and I thoroughly enjoyed the little school girl fantasy scene. That was excellently written. I feel I should say more, but I really can't come up with words right now...You've got me all curious about Lucius. I know that they have come up with a winner of a plan to get him off her case, but his letter has me concerned. I know he doesn't take losing well and he definitely won't take Voldie's favor switching over to Severus well at all. Thanks for another great chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks, my constant one - your faithful support is much appreciated! Yes, the plan is coming together pretty well, but you're absolutely right to suspect that Lucius might not be willing to let go of his cherished ambitions just because of a little thing like total estrangement from Emily and her new love affair with Severus. You're absolutely right to suspect him - all I can say is Stay Tuned!

Oh! You cruel creature!! How could you, how could you cut it off at THERE!! I love you a lot for this impossibly lovable story that I wish would never end, but this is too much! Has Lucious found out about Voldie's dark plan to "give" Emily to Sev? Oh, all the suspense is killing me mercilessly!! I love how they love each other. They are a couple that I would always want to become. They would fight and we all know very well that one doesn't want either of them against him/her, but I also know that their love is true and their soul is tied together by the bond of love they share together. Argh!! I'm jealous now! Do you know anyone who resembles our Sev? Haha.. Anyways, thanks for the update and I'll love you forever if I see more updates.. Soon.. like.. NOW!! Haha.. Thanks again!

Author's Response: Thanks, Jools! You will soon discover as to what Lucius knows about Voldy's plans re: Sev&Emily in the upcoming second half of Ch. 50. Yes, those two do have this dynamic going on where they'd kill for each other and have this insane sexual chemistry going on, but it's getting along on a day-to-day basis without one of their pyrotechnical arguments that's a challenge. Thanks for sticking with it!
