Reviews for The Knight Errant Chronicles

Jools 2006.03.08 - 08:53PM 98: Part Third: The Hart Subvertant, Chapter 52 Signed
When I got an e-mail saying I got a response from you, I KNEW it must be good news!! Well, here I am and I find out that you've responded my little review with very very good news indeed. I can't wait until Monday now!! I'd love to see more of Severus and Emily and escape my own horrible reality. I have so much work to do, but knowing that a grand treat (yay!!) is waiting for me just around the corner (or week) makes it all better. Thank you again, and see you on Monday!

for all that is holy update update update

Author's Response: Hyperventilate no more, my faithful one, my betas' schedules willing, the next segment (it'll be the last part of Ch. 52, in 2 segments, actually, as it's quite long) should be up this coming Monday, March 13th.

Hey there love. Where art thou?. You do realise that there are people living on this fic don't you?I mean it's been 5 loooooong weeks. Have mercy. Now I expect an update this Monday or you will be subjected to a concentrated dose of whining and nagging. A full 200 cc of nagging and another 200 cc of whining. Consider yourself warned love. Cheers!

Author's Response: Awwwww, your enthusiasm continues to be adorable, my wee Draco fan - bubblegum lollies for you too! (It was five long weeks of TOIL (actually more like eight long weeks of toil) over here in my office, believe me, but money has to be made, alas.) But sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more - there will be an update on or around March 13th, I'm thinking. Thanks for sticking with it so ardently! :-D

Lord Trent! Too good. I fancied him off in Tibet, discovering the way to inner peace... and rejection of corporate interest.

Oh good grief. She really is quite dumb. The disappointment I have in her character right now is ridiculous.

Author's Response: Um, she needed a reason to break it off with Malfoy and become disenchanted with him, and for that to happen, he kind of had to do something objectionable. After all, if he remained shiny and nice and in all ways sweet and wonderful, she'd never have realized what a bastard he is, AND, being Lucius Malfoy, if he remained nice, he'd also be ludicrously out of character. But anyway, feel free to stop reading (and preferably stop reviewing) at any time.

Thank goodness. Emily was starting to read like a coward.

Author's Response: Um, if your idea of "reviewing" is to insult the protagonist after every chapter, just so you know, you're welcome to go read something else. I guarantee you, my OC isn't going to get any more perfectly prudent later, so just spare yourself the trouble of reading the next seventy trillion words of KEC and re-read "Roman Holiday", or something. You'll be glad you did! :-D

This was a fun chapter. I enjoyed all the banter between Severus and Emily. I can tell you had fun writing the new identity. What are you going to do about Cecile? She would be a dead give away that Emily is still around. That letter, what can I say? It’s a good thing she didn’t read it on a full stomach!

Oh I knew it! That scheming man doesn't think mere wizards are good enough to win the war, huh? Why would she fight muggles, when she's part muggle herself? Plus, I'm disappointed in her lack of self-respect. It's one think to enjoy sex, it's totally another to let yourself be abused like that.

Author's Response: It's long been established in canon that Voldemort makes a point of cultivating other supernaturals, i.e. werewolves, giants, etc., as allies. Also, Malfoy probably thought Emily would fight Muggles (when she's one-quarter Muggle herself) for exactly the same reason Snape, who is half Muggle himself, would fight them. And I needed a reason for her to break it off with Malfoy, and the gradual appearance of abusive tendencies seemed like a pretty good reason, not to mention wholly in character for JKR's Malfoy. As to why it took her some time to decide to break their relationship off after Lucius became abusive...well, I couldn't let Emily be PERFECT, and wholly prudent in EVERY decision, otherwise she'd be a...dare I say it...a Mary Sue. No, she did what lots of women do, doubted her own judgment, and gave him a second chance after he abused her the first time. After all, I'm creating a *character* here, not writing the biography of an all-knowing, perfect saint. But by all means, feel free to read something else if you don't like my story, because after all, my story IS just hellaciously long, and Emily's not going to get any more all-knowing and inhumanly perfect later on - she's going to remain her impetuous, quixotic, occasionally insecure and often oblivious self. Cheers!

Why is Lucius Malfoy's Mother-in-law's last name Malfoy as well? If she's Narcissa's mother, shouldn't her name be Black?

Author's Response: This fic was started before "...Order of the Phoenix" was published, believe it or not, and the original conceit was that Narcissa Malfoy was Lucius's second cousin and already a Malfoy when she married him. Unfortunately, in a fic of this size, it can be difficult to catch and retrofit EVERY tiny inconsistency, although I do try.

I absolutely loved the night market. You write so well, it is easy picture it.

Author's Response: Thank you - and there will be more of it in the upcoming segments! I worked at Renaissance Faires for about four years, and much of that experience went into this chapter.
