Reviews for A Merciless Affection

Aiden 2006.04.19 - 11:08PM 54: Precious Little Ingenue Signed
Two chapters in one day!!! It is like Christmas in April. The scene with Voldemort was grueling, but Sarah handled herself well and saved Severus some degree of punishment with her quick thinking. I have to worry about Severian though--how terrible to have to turn your child over to people you don't trust to do well by him. (I hope you are settling into your new home.)

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, Aiden! I didn't intend to have two chapters out in one day; I didn't submit them on the same day. But that's how it worked out, and everyone seems happy, so who am I to complain? ;~)

There have never been very many good options for Sarah about her baby. Which is, I fear, what often tends to happen when these things aren't planned.

We are in the house. That is about all I can say at this point. There are still boxes everywhere. *sighs*

Although there were many reasons for the second wedding, I think the best part of it was that this time Sarah didn't feel coerced. The consummation scene too was nice given that first unfortunate "honeymoon." It is amazing how far these two have come in eight months. Thanks for the fast updates--it is a dream come true.

Author's Response: Thanks, Aiden! I hadn't actually planned on the second wedding in advance; it was one of those bonuses that come up as you work through solving the problems in the details. I was glad for the gift of it. :~)

“Must not ha’ been prepared for that, poor girl.” Oh, I did like that line! These have been a great couple of chapters, and I'm so impressed that you're weaving HBP into the story! This continues to be my favourite story on SH. :-D

Author's Response: Thanks, mouse! I really liked that line, too. The double irony just gave me tingles when I thought of it. (Okay, I'm weird.)

Oooh, nicely played. Sarah has come a long way to pull that off so neatly, despite her antipathy. What a pity her excellent acting job is going to lose her her most likely ally in that house.

Author's Response: Thanks, Owlbait! It really is a little scary to compare where Sarah used to be to where she is now.

No! Oh god, Voldemort is really a bastard is he? Damn him and his evilness. I am young but this is terrible for any mother to have to endure. Her child would be taken away and not to anybody but close to the one person she hates! Right now I am blaming Severus for getting Sarah into this. Into having her to marry him because of the pregnancy and the 'love'. I don't really believe Snape could really love. He is sexy in his own way but he can't truly love can he? He's more of a vampire. But, I feel scared for Sarah if that ever happened to me( God forbid, lol) I would be crying madly maybe bad enough to be taken into a mental house. But this story is getting so much better now! I can't wait till more is out. Oh and thank you for submitting the chapters as fast as you could. I and a couple of others really appreciate it. It's always good to read your story. I'm so anxious! Keep up the good job! P.s. Good Luck with moving. I know how tiring it is! Argh. You'll have to rest for at least two weeks after it. Well hope all goes well!

Author's Response: Thanks, Slytheringurl! I'm still pretty exhausted, so there will definitely be a longer-than-usual hiatus before the next chapter. I feel bad that it's taken me this long to answer my reviews!

I really don't think of Sarah and Severus having the really "romantic" kind of love. It's more the sort of love that grows from having to be together and work together and go through crud together. Having experienced both in my life, I think I prefer the latter: it's more long-lasting and stable, and it isn't nearly as emotionally exhausting. And these two have enough on their plates without dealing with that. And I suspect that you're right, to a degree: Severus is too basically selfish to have stepped right from his normal existance into really caring about anyone else for their own sake, rather than his own.

I spotted it - we threw chocolate coins from our carriage to the kids at our wedding. I'd seen Sense and Sensibility far too many times!

Author's Response: It was irrestisible. :~)

I'm surprised Voldemort doesn't have spies in the room next to Snape. Wouldn't the wording of the promise made Fiona resist giving the child back? After all, if he's like her own grandsone, she wouldn't allow Snape to take it away.

Author's Response: Fiona is not a happy woman, is she? As for Voldie, it probably hasn't occurred to him to spy on Snape...at least by means of anyone other than his current DEs (and Draco). Thanks for reviewing!

Conveys fear very, very well.

About Amelia Bones (you asked): my impression was that the Minister thought she had been murdered by Death Eaters, and Voldemort himself because she was a formidable witch. She was found dead in a room... no other clue. Also, the initials in the false horucrux's note suggested (to me) Amelia.

Author's Response: Thanks! :~) I think it has been pretty well confirmed (by JKR) that R.A.B. is Regulus Black.

What a nice surprise to get two chapters at once, even if they were mostly full of nasty surprises for Sarah. You've painted so clearly the bind that many Death Eaters must find themselves in -- whether they get drawn into Voldemort's service by innate evil, by stupidity or by bad luck.

Author's Response: Thanks, Deeble! I don't think being a DE is an enviable position for anyone. Look at how devoted Bella is, and yet how she's treated. Voldie is a psychopath, really, and to be at the beck, call, whim and mercy of a psychopath is not a good spot to find yourself in.

As the proverbial poopie hits the fan... A meeting withthe Dark Lord: What a terrible wedding gift! “At least you have not abandoned her to ignominy, to bear her child alone and friendless. But to do all this, to marry her without my permission.... No, Severus, you ought to have realized that was unwise. Surely I made it perfectly clear, when she was presented, that I would stand in the stead of her father?” Although Severus did manage to score some brownie points with the Dark Lord, he looses them almost as quickly. Excellent use of the Unbreakable Vow; hopefully this will ensure little Severian safety. I glad to have been able to help, even though sometimes I'm not sure if I'm standing or not.

Author's Response: Thanks, Lady Whitehart! (Twice over!) It was nice, after having averted Snape from taking the Vow earlier, to make someone take it who really deserved it. *evil grin*
