Very exciting! It was interesting seeing a meeting of the nasty little inquistor toadies. And the pathetic Marietta! Most interesting and disturbing were Sarah's visions of a future with Snape as an actual father to her son--and doing a wretched, oppressive job of it! So believable! |

Poor Sarah. It really is hard to imagine Daddy!Snape isn't it? I hope she gets to enjoy being pregnant, at least a little. Can she feel the baby kick yet? It's going to be harder to hide, when her belly is doing gyrations all on it's own :*)
Author's Response: All in good time..... |

Oh that ending was sad! "It was not in him." But really, she hasn't had reason to believe otherwise. Must...have...more...*soon* - you've dangled a capter that made you *cry* for heaven's sake!:) |

"Wasn’t it her fault that Sarah had been r—" I hate to say it, but I'm thinking that the rest of that word is something aweful. Snape's spying advice was interesting. He seems to be saying that Sarah must find Dark reasons for doing a Dark deed in order to be convincing. Sarah's partly justifying her actions in the IS by reasoning that her classmates were in fact rule breakers who ignored her shows she really believed him. But she has a very understandable reason for playing ball with Umbridge...she needs to protect her and Severus and consequently their baby. And yet she considers that "selfish." Both she and Snape are *completely* in character all the way through. In my pregnancy I've needed daily afternoon naps in my first and third trimesters but not in my second. The second was the most fun. You're big enough to have something to show off but not tired or uncomfortable. I feel sorry for Sarah and Snape that they don't get to enjoy "the bump" at this stage with that "carry closer" potion. There's always Easter Break!
Author's Response: There is, indeed, Easter Break. I finished the first chapter about it this evening--chapter 25. A happy one, for a change. And would you believe, I actually made myself cry (happy tears)! I've never done that before, in all the years I've been writing. -shivers- I can't wait to share with y'all. |

Pregnancy also makes one very absent-minded, the "mum-dumbs," my OB called it. Not so conducive a state of mind for spying effectively. But with Snape helping her, Sarah can be sneaky enough to never be mentioned in canon :) Though maybe Sarah has some behind-the-scenes machinations leading to what happens to Marietta? And I like how Sarah's getting stronger and more self-assured all the time, though walking a tightrope between Snape and Umbridge would make anyone tired, pregnant or not. |

Again, you're doing such a wonderful job of weaving this story into the events of OotP! Severus' advice on being a spy remarkably insightful! ~Lisa
Author's Response: Hehehe--I know nothing about being a spy, so I was totally faking it! |

I thought only Slytherins were on the IS, but it does make sense to have student moles(nifflers?)from all of the Houses. What would drive anyone but the Slytherins to work for Umbridge? At first I thought that Marietta would just to make sure her mother was able to keep her job.
Snape does come across as very immature in this chapter. Definately acting like "a school boy in a pissing contest". Love that remark!
Author's Response: We really don't see the full composition of the IS in the book, except that we know there are a lot of Slytherins on it. And I've assumed (a pretty good assumption, I think) that Umbridge was in Slytherin, which would naturally result in her favoring Slytherins. But, yeah, I doubted that it would be *only* Slytherins. I mean, they already get such a bad rap! I think there are two or three Ravenclaw members, and Sarah from Gryffindor. No Hufflepuffs, though. That would be entirely counter to their personality type!
I thought it odd, in the book, that Marietta would just come forward on her own. With the bit of info about her mother being snuggly with Umbridge, I tried to create a situation in which her mother could exert direct pressure on Marietta to tell Umbridge whatever she knows. The way I envisioned it, Umbridge goes directly from the IS meeting to talk to Mrs. Edgecombe, who then decides to bring Marietta home for the weekend to have a little heart-to-heart chat. How do you stand up to your mother? Ok, so I think Marietta gets a bit of a bad rap, too! |

How I feel for Sarah. You've created a fascinating dilemma. The man she is iindissolubly tied too is really a very petty, shabby sort of man. She's quite right to be appalled at his shameless, childish hatred of Potter. All she can do is her best. I look forward to the update. |

Ok, so I'm leaving you three reviews this time. (One of them was a goof.)
I just had to come back and reread the discussion between Sarah and Snape again. The dynamics are phenomenal, and both characters' attempts to persuade/manipulate and otherwise control the other are masterful; I really enjoyed reading it. |
