02-24-2007 07:09 I really liked the blade magic!
Author's Response: It's rather compelling, isn't it? But let me tell you, the hair was standing up on the back of my neck the whole time I was writing it.

02-02-2007 20:31 Of course we're hopeful :). Very clever of Sarah to figure it out. I hope sending the Order in for Snape isn't too damaging - I was actually looking forward to watching her use her *other* allies - sicing the Dark Lord on Bella would have been sweet! And less dangerous to her child...who should just hurry up and be born already! :P (And just so you know, chapter 57 has been reposted as chapter 58)
Author's Response: Well, no one is going to tell Voldie that Sarah was the one who called in the troops. And Voldie would *expect* Dumbledore to rescue Severus, if he thought that Severus was danger from other DEs. Bella probably thinks that it was Chester who called for reinforcements, but Chester can report quite truthfully that it wasn't him. Indeed, the official story in the Prophet--that it was just a raid on the house--might prove to be good cover: the Aurors just *happened* to find Severus being held prisoner there. And truthfully, Sarah had no way of contacting Voldie without a go-between, so any recriminations there (why didn't you come to me for help?) would be deflected.
I admit, it would have been fun to have Voldie intervene, but Sarah really had no way of managing it, with access to any DEs she trusted cut off.
The chapter that was posted as its own story got put back in the right order. That's probably why the other chapter got shifted. I hope.

It is oddly satisfying to see Snape vulnerable and confused. He has appeared so certain of himself up until now. He must be thoroughly rattled if he acknowledges his confusion to Sarah and wants to understand the origins of their relationship.
Brilliant use of a bluff by Sarah in dealing with Draco.

A valuable lesson about taking responsibility for one's own actions or inactions.
At the same time, this is awfully sophisticated stuff with really big consequences for a pregnant eighteen year old to be dealing with.
If it were me, I'd probably fold. She's tougher than that.

How crafty of Sarah to figure out a way to manipulate Umbridge into letting her drop DADA. Not that Umbridge's class would have done her a bit of good on a NEWT.
It's sad that her aunt has decided to back Sarah into a corner and leave her in poverty just to make a point.
Why am I getting the impression that in spite of her intentions, Sarah is getting a bit soft on Snape? And vice versa?

I began reading this story a few days ago and am very impressed with the world you've created. Neither of these characters is sweetness and light. Both of them are very complex - particularly this Severus. He comes across as so bitter and emotionally damaged.
The magic you have created for them is fascinating. The charm residue that protected Sarah from notice, the potions, the corn dolly are well-integrated into the story and show creativity.
I'm looking forward to seeing where you take these characters. There's huge potential for very dangerous situations - particularly when Sarah meets the Dark Lord.
Thank you for all the work you've put into this story!

Oh my gosh. You gave a warning before that big sex chapter, but I found this to be far more disturbing. Three grown people, of authority over her, coerce her to marry someone she explicitly said she doesn't want to marry. All because a) they need her as a tool against Voldemort and b) she can't possibly hope to succede as a single mother? I'd have run to the Daily Prophet immediately! Or at least fled to Wizarding France.

Thanks for finishing this story! Hey, maybe they could use the fire to fake their own deaths...if you ever wanted to take up this plot again. Thank you for your hard and wonderful work! |
