She's being appropriately immature and melodramatic, considering she's a teenager, after all. Though I can recall how pregnancy magnifies the tiniest emotional traumas, and Miriam's explanation for this is quite elegant. And you're right; the pre-term labour thing would be too much like a soap opera. The religious bits are okay; I've read a few fics that portray Severus as a lapsed Catholic, for some reason. And I'm too lazy to look this up, but it's Malfalda (sp?) Hopkirk who sends Harry those letters for the use of under-age magic, isn't it?
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, Apothecaria! Yes, that's the one who sends Harry those letters. I'm postulating the Reverend is her brother. :~)
I can't really quite put my finger on what it is, but there must be *something* about Snape that gives that "lapsed Catholic" impression, since I'm far from being the only one who's independently developed that theory. |

I remember falling into hysterical weeping over the stupidest things when I was pregnant. My only saving grace was I knew at the time they were stupid and just waited for the storm to pass without doing anything too radical. Come to think of it, I remember thinking that being pregnant was a total flashback to being a teenager - my body is changing shape faster than your brain can keep track of, and taking on all sorts of bizarre new functions, and everything was SO IMPORTANT!!! I can't even imaging being teenage and pregnant at the same time, poor Sarah. Ok, poor Severus too, but my sympathies are with the pregnant girl, even if she is wallowing.
Author's Response: I'm sure Sarah appreciates your sympathy, Owlbait. :~) I remember throwing a huge tantrum over a *movie*, the last time I was pregnant! I wanted to go see the new Star Wars movie (ep. 1) without any kids in tow, and I'd arranged babysitting, and I suggested to my husband that it would be really fun to ask another couple along. Well, he ended up asking someone who said, "Well, my wife can't come, but I'll bring my son." And, of course, my husband was too nice (read: wimpy) to explain the situation. To this day, I feel embarassed at how badly I acted that evening--in front of people, even! But at the time, it seemed *inexcusable* for my husband to mess up my plans that way. :~P |

“Never imagine you know what I feel,” - that chills me to the bone. I can hear it so clearly. you are awesome. it gives me the shivers. will he sit by her while she sleeps? Surely he can still show he cares. and i know he does.
Author's Response: Thanks, sevfank! That line was meant to be shivery. I'm glad it had that effect on someone. *chortles* Yes, of course he still cares. |

I think a bit of religion -- of the typically British sort, of course -- makes sense: The school celebrates Christmas, after all. Nice use of Miriam here; she's a flesh-and-bones original character, and her advice is good, even if Sarah doesn't want to hear it.
I must be missing the humor of Hopkirk, though -- even though I did catch the reference to the canon character who shares that surname (she sends out the warnings to underage wizards and witches when they use magic -- gosh, I'm an HP geek).
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, Deeble! "Kirk" is the Scots word for "church." Technically, the "hop" part means "valley" or "sheltered place," but the English etymology seems more amusing: some who hops from church to church--which, in a sense, the Reverend Hopkirk does. Gads, I'm an English geek! |

Finally Snape shows up again!
Way to keep Snape awesome and not turn him into a terribly mushy character.
Keep the genius comming!
Author's Response: Thanks, avada kedavra! *blushes* We wouldn't want to do that to Snape! |

I forgot to add something...like you're really surprised to hear that. I was also really touched that Angelina rallied to her side. It seems as if Sarah may have a few more friends than she counted on. Does this mean that the layers of spells Sarah's mother put on her are starting to wear off?
BTW congratulations on your 600th review. XXX HUGS XXX
Author's Response: You sneaky lady! *hugs* Congratulations on being my 600th reviewer! ;~)
I think the layer of spells is able to recognize genuine friends. Hence the fact that it's never had a problem with Michael, and it now recognizes Angelina. I'm not sure that it's wearing off--it's just that a lot more people have pressing reasons to remember her now. It's a subtle thing, which is why it went unnoticed for so long. I shudder to think what her life would have been like if the Notts had found it easy to keep her in the forefront of their minds. |

That was an excellent chapter. Poor poor sarah *sigh* I hope she feels better when miriam comes back ^_^
Author's Response: Thanks, myfairrie! Unfortunately, Sarah's misery at this point is largely of her own making. It's always harder to let go of unhappiness we've created for ourselves. |

I'm loveing this story I even re read it while I wait for more chapters. Please get the next one up soon!
Author's Response: Wow, bilbo! I'm always so flattered when people re-read. *blushes* I've just posted the next chapter, but the queues have been slow lately. Hopefully it won't be as long as last time. |

Even if I whine like a petulant child *accepts soup with happy grin -- rather like a kid with candy* I still think it's brilliant. I don't do observations with other people's fanfiction -- I let them take me where they want to... of course, I would have to be still sick... ucky. But you have to make it better! Know why?...
...er...
*hazards* Because I say so?
...I know it'll be a happy ending, so we have that to look forward to.
...
right?
-Mellie, who still adores her story no matter how many Prozac pills she has to swallow. (:p)
Author's Response: Mel, are you sure that caffeine is a good idea while you're sick? ;~) *passes out some more chicken soup and Prozac* |

OK, OK She's in her teens, she's pregnant , she's just been through a terrible ordeal.
He's really clueless about women, and he did get quite a lot of verbal abuse. Still... storming out like that...
Well, I'm hoping SOMEBODY is emotionally mature enough to solve this mess! Clearly our couple is not. DD or his aunt might fix things, though I can't see how, since the insecurities they have are very much deep inside each of them.
Author's Response: You are so right, Melpomene! Deep insecurites, lack of maturity, and an issue that has no easy solutions. Wiser heads can't "fix" it, but good advice is usually helpful, even if you don't want to hear it at the time. |
