Reviews for A Merciless Affection

H20girl 2005.12.01 - 06:48PM 45: Gossip's Worth Its Weight in Gold Signed
Hurray!

Author's Response: Thanks, H20girl! :~)

It is *very* odd to think of them having this conversation while Harry et al are flying on thestrals to the Ministry to meet Lucius and Bellatrix...and Lord Voldemort. Snape is going to be caught on the hop by the outcome, no doubt. But at least they won't have to worry about that lot, any more! Maybe there _will_ be a way for Sarah to keep both Severus and Severian.

Author's Response: I suppose it's lucky for them that they don't know, isn't it? :~) Thanks for reviewing, MithLuin!

*amusement* Well that was an interesting ending. Very much like them. It was still Prozac-laden though. But, you know, the good with the bad and whatnot... I wouldn't call the ending "cute"... more like very sarcastic and very amusing. I suppose I find it amusing since I haven't gone through what they have. Outsider's perspective and all. But it's still amusing. -Mel

Author's Response: Thanks, Mel! I think they must own stock in Prozac. I agree that it's darkly humorous--they don't seem capable of any other kind, do they?

Yes computer is fixed. Well I lost EVERYTHING but basically have a new computer so that's nice too right? I've been where I couldn't review and that last review was weak, but I'm still eagerly anticipating each chapter. One thing I'm really excited about is in the next few chapters when the story starts to go AU. I can't wait to see where you lead Sarah and us. Take care. New email if you want it is grindylow@satx.rr.com

Wonderful! I've missed this story so much (my computer died) and it's still my favorite. I cannot wait to read the next chapter!

Author's Response: Hey, I'm glad to see you back, TRE! I was afraid you'd given up (reviewing, at least). I'm glad your computer problems are fixed. :~)

i do so enjoy this story. It must be very hard for sarah to cope with all of this - love, marraige, baby, newts not to mention bella and the dark lord. Very good story - Severus will be able to help her through if not Miriam.

Author's Response: Thanks, sevfank! This is a lot for an 18-year-old girl to cope with. It's a good thing she has someone like Miriam (who can help her cope with Severus, too).

First of all, thank you for your recommendation of "Mood Music." It's one of the most sophisticated fics I've read (though it delayed my review of your latest chapter by two days). Speaking of sophisticated, Sarah and Snape both seem to be taking baby steps towards behaving like grown-ups. Snape's "It was a mistake..." is so I/C! He can't concede anything except in the passive voice. And at the end of the chapter, when Sarah is able to eat and read with casual insouciance despite everything that has happened, also seems to be the end of Sarah's adolescence. The harsh realities of war that she has witnessed in this chapter have ripped away her romantic blinders and she will be able to make a fresh start unhindered by the self-pitying ruminations you showed us in the previous couple of chapters.

Author's Response: Thanks, Apothecaria! I hadn't thought about it consciously (a characteristic of many writers, I fear!), but you're right--McGonagall's near-fatal injury is what really brings Sarah out of her "poor me" mode. That often seems to happen in life (at least to me)--it's harder to feel sorry for oneself (especially in the abstract) when faced with really serious events. I'm glad you liked "Mood Music" (and I don't mind the delay)! It's not the average Snape story, nor is the OFC remotely like any other OFC I've ever encountered. It really does deserve a bigger audience.

You do a great job of injecting tension into a situation which we know will turn out well. Poor Minerva! I'm glad Sarah is coming around, now that she's had a chance to rest. Severus needs her, even if he'll never admit it.

Author's Response: Thanks, Owlbait! This is really an incredible compliment, I feel. I myself never worry about being spoiled, because I always think that the journey is more important than the plain facts of the ending. It pleases me to have someone say, in effect, that I'm doing a good job making the journey interesting. :~)

DUH! Let me put this review in the correct place. Sadly misshapen lemons? *snorts and shakes head* That should be worth a chuckle or two. I can't see them suddenly kissing and making up, and besides that would be very dull. Loved how Sarah told Umbridge off. Keep up the good work.

Author's Response: Thanks! No, as much as I know you all have missed Snape and wished they would make up, it's just not in character for either of them to forgive one another easily, once they have decided to be well and truly upset.

An exciting chapter! I enjoyed it very much. Er... "sadly misshapen" lemons? Okay - I'm looking forward to them, regardless of how strange they sound! :D

Author's Response: Thanks, mouse! One of my betas described the lemons as "cute," so don't expect anything too racy. Supercharged erotic sex in the third trimester isn't something that even I can manage. ;~)
