| I think Dumbledore hit it when he said a mother's love is stronger than a couple's love. Though I can understand that she still isn't demanding to stay near the baby (at least with me, it didn't hit me like a ton of bricks until a bit after he was born). When it does hit her, I doubt Snape, Voldemort or anyone else can keep her away from Severian. Author's Response: Bonding is one of those odd things. With my first baby, I knew from early on that I would likely lose her shortly after birth (which I did), so out of emotional self-protection, I was hesitant to bond with her or with my oldest son--it was a slow process that didn't really end until he was about 3. But with my second son, the moment I saw him, I simply fell in love. It will be interesting to see how Sarah reacts. | |||

| I am very impressed with what Dumbledore said about Snape, "To pretend to evil is a hazardous undertaking to the soul. The more so when one has done evil in earnest and turned from it." That is a very profound statement.
There is no action in this chapter but you have given me a lot to think about, I will have to ponder this for a while. Two points I do want to ask about though, will the baby be fostered out to Miriam as I had suggested in a review some time ago? The second point concerns your note at the end, I thought it was obvious that Dumbledore knew Qirrell was posessed by Voldie, it came through loud and clear to me when I read SS and was reinforced by the movie. Am I the only one who found it so? Another point I just thought of, will Severus be able to be with her when the baby is born, or will that be considered too dangerous for the protection of all 3 of them. He could be there and then deposit the memory in the pensive. Another thought, why doesn't he have a pensieve of his own? If he did he could remove all the dangerous thoughts and memories from his mind as soon as he considered they were dangerous. It would give him much less to block out when he was summoned. I'm sure that when he was summoned he wouldn't have time to put anything in the pensieve before he had to leave. That is unless he had one very dangerous thing and decided to risk the Cruciatus curse for being late.
Enough of that, when will they have their tryst in the Gryffindore girls dorm? Author's Response: Thanks, Trickie Woo! Snape's extended family will foster Severian, but I'm keeping the details to myself for now. As for Dumbledore knowing that Quirrell was possessed by Voldie, that never even occurred to me until I read Red Hen's essay, although once I did, it seemed remarkably obvious. I think that Pensieves are very rare objects, so I doubt that Snape could afford one, and the hazards of removing memories all the time are problematical--Occlumency is a better method. As for their tryst, we'll see what you think after the next chapter... | |||

| Wow--first reviewer! Am I glad I was up past one working? Yep. Great chapter that covers a lot of ground and provides a nice transition to HBP. Dare we hope for a sequal? I loved the bit where Severus clasped Sarah's hand and then became embarrassed. Author's Response: Thanks, Aiden! I'm not planning on a sequel (my husband would have a fit), but I do plan to have lot of nice hints in the epilogue. And yes, I did have to cover a lot of ground in this chapter, which is part of why it took so long to write. Trying to coordinate a long and tense and information-packed conversation with three participants was one of the toughest juggling acts I've yet pulled off in the writing of this story. | |||

| There are enough scenes missing from canon for many of us to get creative, no? The dialogue between Severus and Sarah is especially lively in this chapter.
