Reviews for Already Dead

phoenix 2005.04.03 - 02:09PM 14: The Beginning Signed
Very nice ending. It really does fit in with canon. I'm sad to see it over so soon. Like Vocalion, I noticed the title at the end of fiction. Nice touch. It really does show how Severus got to be the man that we see....I look forward to reading any more Snape centered fics you write. I'm not much into Ashwinder fics, just a personal preference, nothing against any of the writers over there.

Author's Response: Thank you for all your insightful reviews, phoenix. :) Although the ending (beginning?) is sad for Severus, I hope that the journey was scenic. I have a one-shot in mind which might tie in with "Already Dead" but all those other projects beckon to me first. You can keep an eye on my LJ ( http://www.livejournal.com/users/tarah_fae/ ) for info on my writing.

To tell you the truth, Ash is a vicious circle. :) Authors upload there because it has many readers, and readers go there because there are many stories and a quick turn-around. C'est la vie! I shall bend it to my will. :)

Very nice, Tarah_Fae! You captured Snape so well, and I found this to be very believable. I will look for more of your work, although I don't make it over to Ashwinder too often. You have a very readable style - you manage to get to the point without wasting words, while still maintaining strong visual imagery. It makes perfect sense how you explained Snape learning of Voldemort's plans for the Potters. I rarely read anything that makes me think, "Wow - I never considered that before!", but that's what you made me do. Sorry to see this end, but you stopped at the most sensible place. And, I liked the way you used your title in the last line. I notice those extra touches.

Author's Response: *blush* Thank you. Not only for this wonderful comment, but all the others you have left over the course of this fic. They were really encouraging. I have to admit that I have nefarious plans to build up a reader-base at Ash and then lure them over here for more Severus-centric fics. Severus remains my first love.

I am sometimes afraid that I do not use enough words to get the image I have in my head across to my readers, so having you say that really builds my confidence in my (I think) spartan style. :)

I am thrilled that I could open my readers to new possibilities and ideas. Having only been in the HP fanfic fandom since around October, I have no idea what is old hat! And readers who notice my extra touches make me so happy - I've connected!

A thousand thankyous again!
~Tarah

Sigh ... yes, it makes sense to end it here, but so very sad and grim. I find it touching and hopeful that he wanted to save Lily despite the fact he believes she betrayed him that night before the dance, despite the fact she married James Potter. It fits in canon that he didn't know Pettigrew was the traitor, since he (Book 3) believes Sirius betrayed the Potters. Perhaps one day you could do a sequel (AU, of course) in which Severus gets his two visitors at the ofrenda. So sad....how can you be the same writer who produced "Cute as a Button"?!

Author's Response: I was unfortunately bound by canon - we all knew what was going to happen in the end, I just had the pleasure of taking you on the journey there. There is always hope and no-one is ever completely bad. Severus personifies that. :) I'm glad you understand now that I couldn't include Pettigrew in earlier chapters.

I'm putting this baby to bed for now, since I have *quick count* oh 3-4 other fics on my plate at the moment. They will all be over on Ash though. LOL! CaaB was written after AD was completed as a rough draft. I think I needed to balance out the sadness a bit (I have two sequels written for CaaB, by the way, but am thinking of rewriting the one first).

Thank you for your reviews, I loved all of them and appreciated the time you took to read my first real fic. :)

Why is he being so good to her all of a sudden?

Author's Response: In one word? Pity. He sees himself reflected in her and gives her the comfort he himself craves. It is like taking in a bird with a broken wing - it will not appreciate your care, but it does benefit from it.

Very nice. I like the scene where he begs for Albus to help Lily and finally comes to realize what has happened to him...I also like how you show that Bella has some weaknesses and is not the complete sadist and how he can't throw her out.

Author's Response: I have developed quite a soft spot for Bella - she is as tragic a character as Severus is in this tale. I think all characters deserve a chance to develop into something more. Thank you very much for reviewing!

I just played catch-up. As of the world's worst reviewer, I can only tell you how impressed I am with this story. Wonderful job!
~Lisa

Author's Response: Lisa! So glad to have you on board again! Was beginning to worry that I had lost you. :) You're just in time for the (not so?) grande finale!

Now I understand the It and the eyes. You did a good job of keeping the reader in suspense and of providing just enough information to lead to the wrong conclusion, before offering the true, and much less frightening explanation. Your story is quite different and very well done.

Author's Response: I hope the explanation wasn't too much of a let down. I wanted an almost mundane reason for the drastic change - a way to underline the psychological trauma Severus experienced. Thank you very much for your kind words. :)

Only one more chapter?? Now you got me all curious about Bella, and how she goes from abused wife to murderous Death Eater and Voldie's fave (since Voldie saves Bella and leaves her hubby behind at end of Book 5). Plus you still have to introduce Pettigrew as DE. And will you continue to the Potters' deaths and baby Harry's rescue and Voldie's apparent "death"? Whoa, killer chapter coming up! BTW, I'm really glad Severus didn't actually have an "it" inside him.

Author's Response: Bella and Peter's story is not Severus'. :) Those will be reserved for another fic to explore (if proper encouragement is given). The scene with Bella was merely a way to show that both of these people (Bella & Severus) are human, despite all their apparent wickedness. That even DEs can be vulnerable, how the "power" they were promised never actually came.

I don't know how glad I am that Severus didn't actually have "It" inside him. It was a very hard decision to make.

Ah, the turning point! Dumbledore needed to be told off!

Author's Response: I also think Dumbledore had it coming to him! Thanks for reviewing! :)
